Diseases of Affluence
• These are diseases which are a result of increasing wealth in society
• Include type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, depression, alcoholism, some forms of cancer
• Tend to be non-communicable, as infectious diseases are more treatable with money (drugs, vaccinations)
• It is impossible to stop anyone from dying, and as people live longer it is creating more expense
Diseases of Affluence
• Factors associated with these are:• Increase car use• Less manual labour• Food accessibility• High fat foods• Processed foods• Increased leisure time• More alcohol and cigarettes

• Using the textbooks from page 286-289 form an activity sheet to use based on the study of heart disease
• The activity sheet shouldn’t just be a long list of questions – instead be creative, think of activities that could push other students into the HIGHER ORDER thinking skills
Heart Disease – Activity Sheet• Examples of LOWER ORDER activities:• Questions, comprehension, re-writing, remembering, ‘describe
and comment’
• Examples of HIGHER ORDER activities:• Creative, evaluative, synthesis, ‘discuss’, ‘to what extent’, ‘design
your own’
• Have a mixture of both of these on your sheet. Make the sheet fit onto one side A4 and most importantly – make an answer sheet for the teacher!! These sheets can be printed off and laminated and we can use them for revision You should have questions which cover all the sub-headings on your sheet
