Combination Remedies
What are combination remedies?
A combination remedyis a pre-selected mix of remedies, often manufactured as a separate product, which claims to
be generally useful in a particular situation or against a particular symptom or condition.
When a practitioner mixes a treatment bottle she selects the contents to match the individual emotional state of the
person who is taing the remedy. !n the case of a pre-made combination remedy, however, the person selecting the
remedies nows nothing about the individual he is trying to help. "e will assume that people in a particular situation
will react in a particular way, and proceed on that basis.
#ombination remedies are not new. $he original %rescue& combination was 'r (ach&s creation, and right from the
early days people sei)ed on the concept and suggested other combinations, even going so far as to try mixing all *+
remedies together so as to treat everything at once.
(oth practitioners and students need to be aware of the dangers and limitations of combination remedies, especially
if they intend to oin the (ach #entre&s (ach oundation !nternational egister.
Emergency remedies: Dr Bachs rescue combination
/mergency use is the one area where a pre-mixed combination is actually the best solution. When 'r (ach mixed 0tar
of (ethlehem, oc ose, #lematis, !mpatiens and #herry Plum and called it a %rescue remedy& he had in mind the
need to respond without delay to everyday emergencies and crises. When something happens and we need
immediate help we can reach for this crisis mix and now there is going to be something there to help us
0tar of (ethlehem 2 to deal with shoc and trauma
oc ose 2 to calm terror and great fear
#lematis 2 to eep us grounded and aware3 to overcome faintness of mind
!mpatiens 2 to calm agitation
#herry Plum 2 to help us stay rational
$his combination has proved fantastically successful and has helped millions of people around the world. /very
remedy manufacturer has its version of this combination, and some produce it in spray and pastille form, or in
alcohol-free formulations. !n an emergency the %rescue& formula is liely to be near to hand, so that you can respond
at once.
0ome people, however, rely too much on the emergency combination. $hey would find surer and longer-lasting
solutions if they selected mixes of single remedies and made up personal treatment bottles. $he saying to bear in
mind is, if you need rescuing every day, treat the underlying cause instead.

External use: rescue in cream form
'r (ach often applied remedies externally at the same time as he gave them by mouth - there are many examples of
this in the literature. !f he selected "ornbeam and #hicory for somebody who happened to suffer from a rash, he
might use the same remedies both orally and topically.
After 'r (ach&s death in 16*7 8ora Wees and 9ictor (ullen carried on his wor. !t was already clear how useful the%rescue& mix was, and many people were following 'r (ach&s example and using the li:uid emergency combination on
bumps, bruises, stings and so on. 0ome people were mixing their own creams using the %rescue& combination.
!n 1671 8ora decided to introduce the (ach #entre&s own ready-mixed
cream. 0he added #rab Apple 2 the cleansing remedy 2 to the cream, as
experience showed that it was widely used externally in all inds of
different situations
#rab Apple 2 to help us accept our appearance, and remove
feelings of uncleanness and unsightliness
;ie the li:uid emergency combination, 8ora&s cream formula is a ready-
to-use, emergency product with wide application 2 a convenient way to
apply emergency remedies externally. And ust as with the li:uid, it does
not claim to deal with specific problems or situations. Whenever there is
an opportunity to select a personal mix of remedies, that is the preferred
option.
Situation- and symptom-specific combinations
$oday, beyond the wide, generic application of the %rescue& mixes, a second class of combination remedy claims to
treat more specific symptoms or situations. or example, one retailer offers
%#ourage& 2 a mix of "oneysucle, #herry Plum,

When sold in this way combination its have the same potential to do harm to the system as the pre-mixed
combinations. $he lieliest outcome is that the limited choice will lead the customer to tae the wrong remedy.
When it does nothing he will thin the system doesn&t wor.
"ombinations and Bach $oundation %egistered &ractitioners
$he (ach #entreDs purpose is to safeguard 'r (ach&s original system. $he #entre has always opposed the introduction
of symptom- and situation-specific combination remedies because they are a distortion of 'r (ach&s core principles.
With the exception of the traditional emergency remedies, (ach
oundation egistered Practitioners have been instructed that
The use, sale or promotion of premixed combinations ! could be viewed
as an attack on the integrity of the original system, and a breach of the
"ode of #ractice$
What this means in practice is that (Ps have a duty to be open and
honest 2 whatever the context 2 about the limitations of combination
products
%or example,
!f a (P were woring in a shop that sold the %ocus&
combination, she might present it to a customer by saying that it
will only be the best choice if the person happens to need the
exact mix of ;arch, /lm, White #hestnut, "ornbeam, >entian
and #lematis. !f only a few of those remedies were needed, or
others were indicated, she would advise the customer that the
mix may not wor, and that results are liely to be better withan individual mix of remedies.
A (P re:uired to discuss an %/nergy& preparation that contained a combination of =live and the %rescue&
ingredients would have to point out its inherent limitations and possible results. !n the unliely event a
fatigued client happened to need those specific remedies for his tiredness @and not =a, /lm, "ornbeam,
9ervain, etc., he would be as liely to fall asleep as feel a burst of energy.
$here will be times when a certain amount of tact is called for. emedy manufacturers distribute the remedies, the
core components of 'r (ach&s system, all over the world. $hey too are helping to mae 'r (ach&s dream come true,
which was to have the remedies available to anybody who needs them. 8obody wants to attac the companies or
bring them into disrepute.
8evertheless, (Ps have a duty 2 ust as the (ach #entre does 2 to stand by 'r (ach&s core principles. $his will
inevitably mean offering a criti:ue of products that contradict those principles, whether they be variations on the
%rescue& mix, combination its or pre-mixed formulas.
!n their normal wor, such as in the context of a full consultation, where the only consideration is the best interests of
the client, (ach oundation egistered Practitioners should never resort to non-traditional premixed combinations.
$hey should instead mae full use of the *+ single remedies to produce personalised treatment bottles.
