People want safety at home

Citizens require a sense of safety at their homes and go to great lengths, and expenses, to try and create a safety zone at home for them and their families.

People have “Zones of Fear”

“Zones of Fear”, refers to the fact that people’s fears increase dramatically the closer any threat is to their immediate space. Therefore perimeter security such as barbed wire, security beams and cameras are heavily invested in by private individuals and business. The greatest fear of people is that the threats of crime will enter their personal space, especially if they are not prepared for such an event, such as when sleeping. To this end many families now install safety doors inside their homes as a further barrier to criminals getting to their families.

And the question of “what if ?”

What if a criminal or criminals manages to enter your home, what if you're private space is invaded, what if you face an intruder or intruders face-to-face, how and with what will you protect you and your family?

The best defence when you are in danger

Lethal weapons, such as guns, remains the most effective self defence tool in the hands of someone that is properly trained in the use of such a weapon. Keeping in mind that guns to be effective requires carrying it on your person, doing very regular and realistic training and practice.

But not everybody wants to own a gun

Gun ownership is currently a controversial issue, not just due to social pressures against ownership of lethal weapons but also due to tighter legislation and processes to own a gun in South Africa. Many parents also fear having guns in their homes in fear that by some unforeseen circumstances children will get access to these guns.

Some fear that having a gun may risk them becoming a target..

Many people fear that by having a gun they will become a target by criminals wanting their weapon and/or weapons, and therefore elect not to have guns in their homes or on their person.

Some require an extra, effective barrier, prior to deadly force…

Gun owners in many respects view the use of deadly force as an option that they wish to use as an absolute last measure, rightfully so. Therefore there is a significant requirement for highly effective solution, that can still act as a defense mechanism to avert danger and criminal elements.

This is the space of “Less-Lethal” weapons

Non-lethal weapons, also called less-lethal weapons, less-than-lethal weapons, non-deadly weapons, compliance weapons, or pain-inducing weapons are weapons intended to be less likely to kill a living target than conventional weapons. It is often understood that accidental, incidental, and correlative casualties are risked wherever force is applied, but less-lethal weapons try to minimize the risk as much as possible. Less-Lethal weapons are used in combat situations to limit the escalation of conflict where employment of lethal force is prohibited or undesirable, where rules of engagement require minimum casualties, or where policy restricts the use of conventional force.

Enter the Fortis high quality Gas Guns

Fortis developed the Fortis Defender Range of less-lethal guns that overcomes the obstacles of normal pepper guns. Fortis defense guns offer bigger magazines that can hold 60 to 200 rounds. These rounds are highly effective in that they are delivered with bone crushing force and the pepper ball range will incapacitate any would be attacker within seconds. Fortis defense guns also have bigger gas canisters that will last between 450 to 500 shots per canister. The quality of build also allows you to leave canister engaged so that in event you require the use of gun you will be instantly ready. The main benefit is that with a 200 round magazine and with a semi automatic gun you can shoot several shots at an attacker or multiple attackers and still have ammunition to keep up a fight. The Fortis gas guns are powerful guns, but having no recoil can even be fired by a child.

Fortis Nylon projectiles

The Fortis range of non-lethal gas guns fire above 370 feet per second, at this velocity the nylon projectiles are truly bone crushing and any attacker would feel its force painfully. In perspective…This is more than 400 Km/h The effective range of the Fortis range of gas guns are 20 to 30 meters (can shoot further), highly effective for use at home. (See Sidebar Windscreen) The objective is to meet the requirements where physical proximity to a suspect is deemed dangerous, but deadly force is not warranted or desired.

Fortis pepper balls

Pepper as used in Fortis pepper balls is an inflammatory agent, it causes immediate closing of the eyes, difficulty breathing, runny nose, and coughing. The duration of its effects depends on the strength of the spray but the average full effect lasts around thirty to forty-five minutes, with diminished effects lasting for hours. Fortis pepper balls are military spec and contains a chemical called Capsaicin, a highly effective substance when used correctly.

The Scoville scale is the measurement of the pungency (spicy heat) of chili peppers or other spicy foods as reported in Scoville heat units (SHU). The scale is named after its creator, American pharmacist Wilbur Scoville. His method, devised in 1912, is known as the Scoville Organoleptic Test.

Two hundred opportunities to keep attackers at bay

Even trained special forces operators will not kill with every bullet they fire and therefore several shots will have to be fired in the direction of an attacker for a percentage of the rounds to hit and make a kill. You want to deliver maximum amount of fire power in the shortest possible time. It is called “suppressive fire” and if you shoot a large volume of rounds at an attacker/s it will suppress them and cause them to flee or surrender or will incapacitate them long enough for you to take evasive action or to make an arrest. The Fortis Hopper can take 200 rounds, this can be mixed between Nylon and Pepper Balls.

Fortis reliability

Fortis gas guns are not fully automatic for reliability reasons, you will need reliability when your life is in danger, not features made popular in the paintball gun arena. In the gas gun space, fully automatic firing requires battery power and specific circuitry built into the gun, this could result in failure at critical time when you are in danger, therefore Fortis design requires manual finger actions. The design of the gun is such that it will shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger, 5 to 8 shots per second is a good rate to achieve.

These guns are not toys, they are solid gas guns that weighs in excess of 3kg when operational. Do not be fooled by the less-lethal classification, under specific sets of conditions these guns can kill. Similarly the pepper balls should be used only when required as excessive inhalation can cause complications. It is also strongly suggested that you familiarize yourself with the laws pertaining to the use of force to protect you and your family. Fortis gas guns are not to be confused with cheap gas guns from flea markets. They are used as less lethal weapons by police and security forces around the world.

Training

Just like a real firearm you need to know how to use the gun, be able to operate it in the dark, under pressure, shoot accurately and knowing your gun well enough to correct any errors, in this respect you need training. Without training, you might as well save the money and buy a baseball bat, the results will be the same. We cannot stress the importance of the correct training and practice – that is why we offer a variety of training courses The training together with the correct gun together with practice, is what will save your life in a danger situation.
