Aerial Application: Do not aerially apply thisproduct.

Chemigation: Do not apply this product throughany type of irrigation system. For orchard crops, including citrus, pome fruits, stone fruits, and tree nuts, apply product only as astrip treatment in the tree rows; do not apply to rowmiddles or drive rows.Do not graze or feed forage from treated areas tolivestock.Precaution: Avoid spray drift to non-target areaswhen applying LESCO Surflan AS SpecialtyHerbicide. Spray drift may result in reduced emer-gence of non-target plants adjacent to the treatedarea. Poor weed control may result if directions arenot followed. Over-application may result in cropinjury or excessive soil residue.

ApplicationSoil Preparation LESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicide controlsweeds growing from seed. LESCO Surflan ASSpecialty Herbicide will not control emergedweeds. LESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicidedoes not control established weeds, weeds grow-ing from stolens, rhizomes, or root pieces. Therefore, areas to be treated should be free ofemerged weeds. Weed residues, prunings, andtrash should be thoroughly mixed into the soil orremoved prior to treatment. In field applications, the soil should be in good tilth and free of clods atthe time of application.Ground Application: Apply LESCO Surflan ASSpecialty Herbicide as a directed spray to the soilsurface or over the top of plants. Use only a prop-erly calibrated, low-pressure, herbicide sprayer thatwill apply the spray uniformly. Use screens no finerthan 50 mesh in nozzles and in-line strainers. Applythe appropriate rate of LESCO Surflan AS SpecialtyHerbicide, as outlined in Crop Specific UseDirections section of this label. In all cases, usesufficient water volume to obtain uniform coverageand deliver the desired rate of LESCO Surflan ASSpecialty Herbicide to the treated area. The volumeof water used is not critical, as long as the desiredrate of LESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicide isdelivered uniformly across the area treated. When

calibrating, determine the volume of water deliveredby the sprayer to a given area (1,000 sq ft, 1 acre,etc.). Then mix the desired rate of LESCO SurflanAS Specialty Herbicide in the amount of waterrequired to cover the entire area to be treated. Asthe amount of water used (spray volume) decreas-es, the importance of accurate calibration and uni-form application increases. Check the sprayer dailyto ensure proper calibration and uniform applica-tion. Maintain continuous agitation from mixingthrough application. Avoid spray pattern skips andoverlaps that may result in incomplete coverage orover-application. Hand Held or Backpack Sprayer Application:The amount of water used to apply LESCO SurflanAS Specialty Herbicide is not critical, but should besufficient for uniform coverage of the target area.Calibrate by determining the volume of waterrequired to treat 1000 square feet. Use this calibra-tion volume to determine the amount of water andLESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicide needed totreat the target area (see the following calibrationexample). Note: Sprayer calibration (volume ofspray needed to treat 1,000 square feet) will varywith each individual operator.Steps in Calibration:1. Mark an area of 1,000 square feet (i.e. 20 by 50

feet, or 25 by 40 feet).2. Place the sprayer on a level surface and add

water noting the final level of water in the spraytank.

3. Spray the marked area with a sufficient volumeof water to provide uniform coverage. Refill thesprayer to the same level as before measuringthe amount of water added. The measured wateradded to the sprayer is the volume needed tocover 1,000 square feet.

4. Determine the application rate (fl oz/1000 sq ft)for LESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicide fromthe Crop Specific Use Directions section of thislabel.

5. To each volume of water used, as measured instep 3, add the amount of LESCO Surflan ASSpecialty Herbicide as determined in step 4.

Example: If the sprayer used 2 gallons of water tocover 1,000 square feet and the desired applicationrate of LESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicide is 3fluid oz/1,000 square feet, then you would add 3fluid ounces of LESCO Surflan AS SpecialtyHerbicide to every 2 gallons of water to be used.

Mixing Directions Shake Well Before UsingPrecaution: Do not allow the spray mixture tosiphon back into water source.LESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicide - AloneMake sure spray tank is clean and use only cleanwater. Fill spray tank 1/2 - 3/4 full. Start agitation andadd the required amount of LESCO Surflan ASSpecialty Herbicide. Continue agitation and finishfilling the spray tank. Maintain continuous agitationuntil application is completed.LESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicide - TankMix CombinationsPrior to mixing, read and carefully follow all labelinstructions and precautions for each product addedto the tank mixture. Vigorous, continuous agitation isrequired for all tank mixes of LESCO Surflan ASSpecialty Herbicide. Sparger pipe agitators generallyprovide the best agitation in spray tanks.Mixing Order: Fill the tank 3/4 full with clean water.Start agitation and add different formulation typesin the order indicated below, allowing time for com-plete mixing and dispersion after addition of eachproduct. Allow extra mixing and dispersion time fordry flowable products.Add different formulation types in the followingorder: dry flowables (DF); wettable powders (WP);LESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicide and otheraqueous suspensions (AS), flowables (F), and liquids(L); solutions (S); and emulsifiable concentrates (EC). Continue agitation and finish filling the spray tankwith clean water. Maintain agitation until applicationis completed. If spraying and agitation must bestopped before the spray tank is empty, the materi-als may settle to the bottom. Settled materials mustbe completely resuspended before spraying is con-tinued. A sparger agitator is particularly useful forthis purpose. Premixing: When tank mixing, initial mixing anddispersion of certain dry flowable or wettable pow-der products may be improved by premixing withwater (slurrying). Adding the slurried material to thespray tank through a wetting screen of 20 or 35mesh will help assure good initial dispersion. Equipment CleaningIf a buildup of material occurs on the walls of thespray tank, it should be removed between fillings

by washing with soap and water and rinsing thor-oughly. Tanks, lines, screens, and nozzles shouldbe cleaned thoroughly after each use.Activation and CultivationLESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicide will remainstable on the soil surface up to 21 days followingapplication. In the absence of timely rainfall, irriga-tion can be used to activate LESCO Surflan ASSpecialty Herbicide. A minimum of one-half (1/2)inch of rain or its equivalent in sprinkler irrigation isnecessary to activate LESCO Surflan AS SpecialtyHerbicide. If weeds begin to emerge due to lack ofrainfall or irrigation, shallow cultivate 1-2 inchesdeep to destroy existing weeds, or remove them byhand. Shallow cultivation to a depth of 1-2 incheswill enhance herbicidal effectiveness. Erratic weedcontrol may result if LESCO Surflan AS SpecialtyHerbicide is not activated by rainfall, irrigation, orcultivation within 21 days of application, or existingweeds have not been removed.

Broadcast Application Rates (Warm SeasonTurfgrasses)

1. Summer Annual Grasses and Broadleaf Weeds Single Application Program: Apply 2 quarts peracre of LESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicide inlate winter or early spring, prior to the onset ofconditions favorable for annual weed germination. Split Application Program: As an alternative toa single application program, LESCO Surflan ASSpecialty Herbicide may be applied in a splitapplication. This program is desirable when theinitial application is made well in advance ofweed germination and where weed control isdesired for a longer period of time. Apply 1.5quarts per acre of LESCO Surflan AS SpecialtyHerbicide in an initial application, followed by asecond application of 1.5 quarts per acre 8-10weeks later. The second treatment of the split applicationmay follow application of a different preemer-gence grass herbicide in place of the initialapplication of LESCO Surflan AS SpecialtyHerbicide.

2. Annual Bluegrass (Poa annua) and WinterAnnual Broadleaf Weeds In areas of heavy annual bluegrass infestation, itselimination will result in temporary thinning ofturfgrass cover. Proper fertilization, irrigation, andsoil incorporated reseeding should be employedto speed the restoration of desirable turfgrasscover in areas previously occupied by annualbluegrass (see section on reseeding).Apply LESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicide asa preemergence treatment in late summer orearly fall, prior to the expected germination peri-od for annual bluegrass and winter annualbroadleaf weeds. If annual bluegrass infestationis severe and its elimination will result in thinning

of turfgrass cover, apply LESCO Surflan ASSpecialty Herbicide at 1.5 quarts per acre. Ifthinning of turfgrass cover is not a potentialproblem, LESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicidemay be applied at 2 quarts per acre.

Weed Control in FloridaIn Florida, apply 1.5 quarts per acre of LESCOSurflan AS Specialty Herbicide three times per year,or every 90-100 days, in the fall, early spring, andearly summer. Do not apply more than 1.5 quartsper acre of LESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicidein any single application.Application EquipmentApply LESCO Surflan AS Specialty Herbicide even-ly over the turfgrass area. Avoid spray pattern skipsand overlaps that may result in incomplete coverageor over-application. For best results, use applica-tion equipment designed to uniformly broadcast liq-uid herbicides. Calibrate application equipmentprior to use, according to manufacturer’s directions.Check equipment frequently to make sure it isworking properly and distributing spray uniformly. ReseedingHerbicides that control annual weeds may alsoaffect establishment of desirable turfgrassseedlings. Reseeding should be delayed for at least90-120 days following application of LESCOSurflan AS Specialty Herbicide. When reseeding, itis essential that proper cultural practices such assoil cultivation and seedbed preparation, irrigation, and fertilization be followed. For satisfactoryreseeding results following use of LESCO Surflan ASSpecialty Herbicide, the seeding rate should beincreased and equipment designed to place seed infull contact with soil should be employed. Special Use Precautions: To avoid possible injury, do not apply LESCOSurflan AS Specialty Herbicide to:• Cool season turfgrass species.• Golf course putting greens and tees or lawns

containing dichondra or cool season turfgrassspecies.

• Newly sprigged or sodded areas of bermuda-grass, St. Augustinegrass, centipedegrass, orzoysiagrass until these turfgrasses are well estab-lished and have well-anchored root systems.

• Newly hydromulched areas of bermudagrass untilsuch areas are well established.

• Bermudagrass variety “Sun Turf” when tankmixed with atrazine.
