Automotive dealers should reflect on the role they will play or will have to play in the future market. They have to anticipate new mobility concepts and analyse what competing companies will offer or are already offering. In the coming years, the number of youngsters will decrease and they will be less likely to obtain a driver's license and/or have their own car, especially in urban areas. Consumers will always want to receive more online information. Dealers should therefore be equipped to answer this request.

What are the relationships between the automotive manufacturers and dealers? What did ACEA, CECRA and the European Commission since the expiry of Block Exemption Regulation 1400/2002 in regards to vertical agreements? What did the national associations of dealers and repairers? Which is the situation on the ground? What about the contracts? What are the next steps?

Les concessionnaires automobiles doivent s’interroger sur le rôle qu’ils joueront ou devront jouer à l’avenir. Ils doivent anticiper les nouveaux concepts de mobilité et l’offre de leurs concurrents. Les prochaines années, le nombre de jeunes étant en baisse, ils seront moins nombreux à obtenir le permis de conduire et/ou à (vouloir) posséder leur propre voiture, surtout en milieu urbain. Les acheteurs voudront toujours s’informer davantage en ligne et les concessionnaires devront dès lors être équipés pour répondre à ces demandes.

Dr. Jonathan Ruff, LL.M. Senior Associate at Osborne Clarke Jonathan is Attorney at Law in Germany and has a degree from King's College in London

He will provide an overview of current developments when it comes to online platforms (e.g. meinauto.de), OEM standards for online sales, OEM-restrictions of online sales and fair compensation for online and offline vehicle retailing. In recent months Osborne & Clark has received many instructions and questions on online distribution from its clients (which include some large dealerships and dealer associations in Germany and other EU member states). Jonathan is very well respected in the automotive community and he frequently publishes on hot topics in the sector (in the AUTOHAUS magazine for instance). Furthermore, he frequently speaks on national and international automotive conferences.

In 2011, up to 11% of retail sales in UK and 4% in US were done online. The share of e-Retailing is expected to increase to 18% in the US and as much as 25% in the UK by 2020. The automotive retail sector is no exception to this trend with numerous examples of digital integration and exciting new business models challenging existing practices. At the same time the automotive industry is moving from vehicle ownership to usership, which in itself will impact retail dynamics. Bernard Lycke, Director General CECRA Bernard Lycke is the Director General of CECRA, responsible for CECRA’s office in Brussels since 1st of February 2011. His function primarily consists of representing/promoting the interest of the car dealers and repairers in Europe. He monitors the work of the European institutions and develops and maintains high representation with the aim to follow up and influence the decision-makers automotive stakeholders in general.

Joanna Szychowska, Head of Unit Automotive and Mobility Industries - European Commission Since the 1st of June, Ms. Szychowska has been appointed Head of Unit of C/4 Automotive and Mobility Industries of DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs at the European Commission. Prior she was the Head of Unit of C/2 Public Procurement Legislation I of DG Internal Market and Services.

Erik Jonnaert, Secretary General ACEA Erik Jonnaert is the Secretary General of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), a position he has held since July 2013. ACEA brings together all major manufacturers of passenger cars, vans, trucks and buses with production in the EU, including BMW AG, Daimler AG, DAF Trucks, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford of Europe, Hyundai Motor Europe, IVECO, Jaguar Land Rover, Opel Group, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Renault Group, Toyota Motor Europe, Volkswagen AG, Volvo Car Corporation and AB Volvo. In addition to his ACEA posting, Erik Jonnaert is currently Vice Chairman of the iMobility Forum. He is also is on the Global Agenda Council for the World Economic Forum, which focuses on the future of Automotive & Personal Transportation. Prior Erik Jonnaert was Procter & Gamble's (P&G) Vice President for External Relations in Europe and Asia.

Ed Goedert, Honorary President of Autopolis and President of ADAL Graduated mechanical engineer. During 10 years he was the Managing Director of TWR - Tom Walkinshaw Racing - SVO (Europe Ltd) – He was responsible for commercial relations Mazda-Rover and Jaguar. Worked at F1 Benetton. Since 1995 till 2014, he was CEO of Autopolis, a large multi-brand dealership located in Luxembourg. Currently, he is the Honorary President and President of the Association of Automobile Distributors in Luxembourg (ADAL).

Gianandrea Ferrajoli, Chairman and CEO Mecar SpA Gianandrea’s family has been a player in the automotive business since 1952 with a strong focus on capital goods. His background differs from the typical dealer profile as he has spent almost a decade in financial markets mainly in NYC, Paris and London. He is a member of the Advisory Board of Methorios Capital (MTH:IM), merchant bank specialising in mergers and acquisitions and today listed on the SME section of the Italian stock market (AIM) and on Euronext in Paris. In 2005 he moved to work with Société Générale (SGCIB) in New York and in 2007 he moved to London to work with US and UK Hedge Funds and Private Equity funds. In 2009 he returned to Italy where he was named Managing Director of Mecar srl, one of the first movers in Italy in the market of capital goods.

Per Ovrén, VP business development Bilia Per Ovrén holds an M.Sc in Industrial Engineering and Management from Linköping Tekniska Högskola. He joined Bilia in 2010 and is the VP Business Development & Purchasing, he also heads Bilia’s business control function. Previous positions include the Boston Consulting Group, Investment AB Öresund and Bain & Company.

Autohaus Augsburg GmbH (BMW/MINI Dealership) in Augsburg, Germany, since 2009. During his studies he worked

among others for BMW in Canada and the USA.
