With its training initiative, VDWF is working to

qualify apprentices in injection molding, stamping

and forming. At the Education Center in Southern

Thuringia (BCS) in Zella-Mehlis, apprentices are

taught specialized tool making skills, complimen-

ting their managerial and vocational training.

The focus is on deepening knowledge and skills

that go beyond the normal curriculum. The various

theoretical and practical class contents – from

tool temperature controls to special plastic or metal

properties – serve to bridge the gap between

vocational training and the practical knowledge

of daily business. Trainees receive documents

detailing individual seminar contents. Each module

is concluded with a verbal examination and a

certi� cate.

VDWF o� ers its members as well as non-members

the opportunity to further educate their trainees

for two weeks (80 hours) during their second and

third year in the tool mechanic’s trade. The combi-

nation of seminar rooms, tool making opportunities,

state-of-the-art injection molds, quali� ed educa-

tors, and full room and board covered in the tuition

make for an excellent learning environment. In order

to ensure individualized support, group sizes

of every course are capped at eight participants.

Stronger together

The main focus of VDWF is the strengthening of German tool and mold making. Small and medium-sized enter-prises have received the most active support since the founding of the association in 1992, and have been strengthened for joint future tasks. VDWF does so by consolidating and representing the many interests of its member companies. For example, they offer expert advice and practical support on the following topics:

– Promotion of the next generation– Initial and continuing education– Marketing and joint fairs– Management and corporate management– DIN standards committee– CE conformity– Expert assessment– Press and public relations

The association’s magazine «VDWF im Dialog»

Printed quarterly, the magazine circulates about 13 000 copies, and is a medium by which relevant information can be distributed efficiently. In addition to professional news, the magazine also addresses economically and so-cially relevant topics within and outside of the industry. Both the publication and the associated online portal are geared towards engineers, designers, operators, personnel decision-makers, and marketing specialists in the expand-ed area of the member companies and their customers.

Around 10 000 magazines are sent to decision-makers within the industry, and 1000 copies are given to asso-ciation members. Some 2000 magazines are distributed to interested parties at trade fairs and other events.

The association membership also includes a free sub-scription to VDWF im Dialog as well as discounted ad-vertisement space.

VDWF’s Interactive Platform

In addition to the operational tasks, the association’s work is determined by strategic objectives shared by all members. Thus, VWDF is working continuously on the industry’s public image. It also creates event for-mats that help members stay ahead organizationally and technologically, and also exchange of ideas within the association‘s promoted network. For example, VDWF organizes:

– Sector-specific specialist events– Training events, seminars, work circles, and workshops– Shared booths at trade fairs and exhibitions both at

home and abroad– Delegations and study trips– Newsletters containing specialized information– Informal meetings such as ski weekends, barbecues, etc.– Active networking meetings such as the tool making

executive board meeting «Totally Wild» or the work group «Tool Making 4.0»
