This system addresses critical demand applications where the mechanical rebar connector is required (by design parameters) to force failure into the parent reinforcing bar remote of the rebar connector. This most stringent connector demand is defined by some State Departments of Transportation (DOT) as the Ultimate rebar splicing classification. The LENTON PLUS system utilizes the same proven traditional LENTON taper threaded concept, but with a slight twist. Prior to placing a LENTON taper thread onto a bar end, the rebar is straightened (cold worked) with a specially designed hydraulic tool. The slightly reconfigured bar end is then placed into a standard LENTON threading machine and a tradi- tional LENTON taper thread is machined onto the rebar. The LENTON PLUS process works in con- junction with the LENTON PLUS standard (A12) coupler, the LENTON PLUS Position (P14L) coupler, and with the LENTON PLUS TERMINATOR (D16). While the LENTON PLUS standard and position couplers are designed to mechanically connect two reinforcing bars together, the LENTON PLUS TERMINATOR (D16) LENTON PLUS Mechanical Rebar Splicing System Achieves Bar Break Remote is designed for headed bar reinforcement applications. LENTON PLUS has been pre-qualified by various Departments of Transportation as an Ultimate rebar splicing system. In addition, LENTON PLUS TERMINATOR (D16) is pre-qualified as a Headed Bar Reinforcement (end anchor) and meets the requirements of the current ASTM A970. The LENTON PLUS (A12/P14L) and LENTON PLUS TERMINATOR (D16) are an extension to the existing ERICO mechanical rebar splicing systems and headed anchors. The traditional LENTON (A2/P9) rebar splicing system and the LENTON TERMINATOR (D6) anchors, are both listed in current ICC ® ER-3967, as a TYPE 2 seismic connector/anchor. The new LENTON PLUS rebar splicing and LENTON PLUS TERMINATOR (D16) are designed to offer Engineers and Contractors, when required, an Ultimate bar break remote splicing option.
