Baptist Church
This year, we will be readying ourselves to revel in the glorious light of Christ’s resurrection by exploring those aspects of our life that often shroud us from living in it daily. The lectionary brings Nicodemus before us, who crept around under the cover of night to preserve his social standing. Worry about what his peers would think of him shrouded
God’s light in his life. We will encounter Jesus sharing water and conversation with a woman at a well, and Jesus’ disciples’ astonished reaction to this sight. The disciples’ gender and status biases shrouded them from fully embracing God’s light. We will encounter those who preferred to cling to particular theological and
ideological understandings, rather than believe in the possibility of the miraculous. A lack of imagination kept them from living fully in God’s light. As we make our way through the six weeks of Lent that run up to Easter, on Sundays and other days, you are invited to consider that which shrouds the light in your life.

A taste of Thailand is coming to Crescent Hill. On Wednesday, April 2, we will host a dance/drama troupe from Payap University in Chiang Mai, Thailand, which is currently on a performance tour. The dancers and actors are professional staff members of the Christian Communications Institute (CCI), the evangelistic arm of the university. Chiang Mai is a cultural and educational center in the northern region of Thailand. During their current tour the CCI troupe is featuring several dances from the four regions of Thailand.
The program is concluded with a traditional Thai melodrama based on the parable of Good Samaritan. Rev. Robert Collins and his wife, Dr. Esther Wakeman, former directors of CCI, are leading the team on this tour. Collins says of this program, “Wherever we go, folks from the audience almost always tell us, ‘If we’d known how good this was, we would have promoted it much more.’” The program will begin at 7:00 PM and will take place in the Sanctuary. This group visited Crescent Hill several years ago when touring the United States.
religion at Centre College. The primary topic that Berry and Mount will explore is the role that faith and people of faith can play to care for God’s creation. Care for creation was the theme of the William M.
On Sunday afternoon, May 18, Wendell Berry will visit Crescent Hill Baptist Church. Berry will not lecture. Rather, Berry will engage in conversation with and respond to questions posed by Dr. Eric Mount, professor emeritus of
Johnson Lectures presented by Dr. Amy Plantinga Pauw last fall. Berry’s visit is a continuation of our efforts to focus on and take steps to protect our environment.

It has been 40 years since the Tornado of April 3, 1974 hit the Crescent Hill, Clifton, and Clifton Heights neighborhoods, creating devastation in these communities. In the wake of the tornado, the churches of the Frankfort Avenue corridor in Crescent Hill quickly joined to rebuild. From this initial
UCHM 40th Anniversary Celebration
goodwill effort, United Crescent Hill Ministries was born.
As months went by, it became obvious to church members and pastors that there were human needs still to be met, both immediate and ongoing. And 40 years later, United Crescent Hill Ministries continues to do just that: meet the needs of our Community with the faithful help
of our 21 member churches.
Please join UCHM on Sunday, April 6 as we celebrate 40 years of “Serving Our Neighbors ~ Building Better Community”. Light refreshments will be served. Look for more information soon on the UCHM website at www.uchmlouky.org. Join the Celebration ~ Help us continue to build!

Many references are made to places in our city, some of which have been closed. This is a book filled with hope, love and some fascinating human beings. Join us on Thursday, March 27 at 7:00 PM in the Parlor. Discounted copies are available at Carmichael’s—mention the CHBC Reading Group.

We will gather in the Parlor on Friday, March 21 at 7:00 PM to watch and discuss this documentary.
