LENNON, IT’S BEEN a superb term. You have really done well with the Lennon Weekly QuizLennon Weekly QuizLennon Weekly QuizLennon Weekly Quiz –

most of you have won at least once and your general knowledge has, I hope, become a little wider as a consequence. Our origami noticeorigami noticeorigami noticeorigami notice----board competitionboard competitionboard competitionboard competition was superb, even though it took a few of you a

little bit of push and shove from your tutors. Congratulations to KCL who won the Lennon competition

for their board and came second overall against other Houses. They did us proud. As I write this, I know there is lots of work going on with your bauble designsbauble designsbauble designsbauble designs. I hope we beat the other houses hands-down, of

course – that goes without saying. But more importantly, I hope that you have been building your

team skills. Well done to KCL who have the best attendance in the whole house at 97.22% followed

closely by GRU and CCO with 96.78. Just two weeks ago, KGO and MPA were in the lead. It just shows

how every day you come in counts. I was also really pleased to see that some of you got involved with the inter-House AntiAntiAntiAnti----Bullying PosterBullying PosterBullying PosterBullying Poster Competition. Well done to Luke Chidlow for beating the other

Houses’ entries to win vouchers to the cinema. Enjoy the your prize, Luke.

In terms of House PointsHouse PointsHouse PointsHouse Points, we had a slow start … but I am proud of you all for going for it in the past

few weeks. We have really started to put our foot on the accelerator and have won for the past two

weeks. As the league table stands at present, we are in THIRD place but not much between us all. We

CAN win it … collect those House Points next term.Just a quick word on our charity effortcharity effortcharity effortcharity effort as Mark and the Captains have given details … but I am so

proud of those of you who have organised cake stalls, shoot-outs, tombolas. It shows that you care about others and want to do something to help. You should be proud of yourselves. I hope it spurs you

on to continue the good work … and inspires others to do the same.

As Mr Chapman has been away, we have warmly welcomed Mr Garbett who has taken over the

helm of this tutor group brilliantly. In fact, in two weeks he has been tutoring the MCH gang, they have won the quiz. Well done! Prize in the New Year for that. We also said goodbye to Mrs Spittle, co-tutor to GRU,

and welcome Mrs McPhie as her replacement! I am sure that you will all join me in thanking your amazing tutors – Mrs Coicechi, Mr Payne, Miss Clark, Mrs Lloyd, Mrs Davies, Mrs Ruston, Mr Brench,

Miss Higgins, Mrs Goodridge and Miss Foster for their support this term. – and to all co-tutors and the

rest of the team. Not forgetting Mrs Muir, your wonderful Student Support Manager. Before I go, I wish you all a very happy Christmas. Enjoy the break. And come back raring to go in

January. Lennon are proving to be a force to be reckoned with this term … let’s show the rest how to do

it. Til January Lennon House, Miss Owen

WELL, THIS TERM has flown by; it seems like only yesterday all us Captains were having our first

meeting, even though so much has happened since then. First of all, what an amazing team of captains we have. If anyone can get everyone involved this lot can. This year has started off with a

real charity effort as our main focus, particularly with our Charity Captain, Mark. So far we have

started off with two forms having events to raise money for ‘Imagine’ and we hope many other

forms will follow this example. Also we have begun our 50/50 raffle at parent events in order to not

only inform parents of what goes on in the school but also to raise money. Also last week many of our year eleven Lennon girls held a Christmas cake sale at break. This just shows what amazing

commitment and effort can achieve: we hope for many other students to take on board this example

and get raising. Next term we are organising a raffle, as detailed in Charity News. Also we are

planning an ‘Arts Evening’ in order to incorporate all our captains as a team so we can all be involved . At the moment your Art & Drama captains are organising ‘Borough’s Got Talent’: this will display

the incredible talent in our Lennon. This next term we need a real push to raise more money and get

more events happening and we can't do that with out you! Have a great Christmas and New Year,

Frankie Morgan

AS WE NEAR the end of 2011, I think My first

term has gone well as House Captain. By now

most of the captains have settled into their

roles and are confidently carrying out their duties. Personally, it took me longer than

others to settle in but now I feel secure as a key

member in the Lennon House team. Along

with help from Miss Owen, me, Frankie and Mark; the Lennon house Charity Captain have

visited Newport finding possible charity raffle

prizes for the ‘New Year Raffle’ Frankie

mentioned above - taking place believe it or

not in the New Year. This raffle was originally taking place around Christmas time but due to

miscommunication the date was moved back. I

think organisation is one things Lennon House

captains need to work on in the new term

including myself. After taking exams in November the pressure to achieve my targets

Lennon is proud with our Senoir Boys’

Sports Captain – Ricky Bailey – for his amazing news!. He will be playing for the

England Under 15’s rugby squad. Good

luck from us all! Update next time.

has eased off slightly giving me more time to

commit to my role. After my time at Burton

Borough I intend to go on to sixth form/college

and so far being Senior House Captain has made me more responsible, mature … and has

given me the realisation that i need to organise

my time better. I hope the whole of Our

House, as well as the other three houses has a wonderful Christmas, ready to return safely in January. Mitch Brooks

Regarding inter house competitions, we automatically won the Year 10 & 11 netball competition because we were the only team to turn up! Well done though. It shows team spirit. However next term, both Me and Zoe need to perhaps push for more people to get involved, as people aren't enthusiastic enough when it comes to supporting House sport, especially girls!

REFERRED TO AS REFERRED TO AS REFERRED TO AS REFERRED TO AS ‘‘‘‘THE CHARITY THE CHARITY THE CHARITY THE CHARITY

HOUSEHOUSEHOUSEHOUSE’’’’ and in my opinion this is for

good reason. We have consistently

held fundraisers throughout the year

and these have proved successful.

During House meetings, your captains

are constantly discussing ways of

pushing the boundaries and finding

new and innovative ways of raising

money.

This term has started excellently in

terms of charity. We are so glad to see

that students have taken the initiative

to set up their own fundraisers, both

within their forms and amongst

friendship groups. Our House has

adopted charity as an important part

of our ethos that allows us to stand out

alongside the other three houses. A

recent success story for charity within

our house is the cake sale that saw

Lennon girls lining the gallery and

selling delectable cakes.

This raised over £90 and is a prime

example of what Lennon can achieve

with considerate and dedicated

individuals at the helm of fundraisers.

Your house captains are planning for

next term’s incentives. A fundraiser

that we will be launching in the New

Year is our 'New Year’s Raffle.' For

this we reached out to the

community in search of prizes and

generosity has been shown from the

businesses already approached.

However we are relying on the

students of Lennon to act as the

foremost contributors. Students will

receive a book of raffle tickets and

sell these to family and friends. We

are very excited about this fundraiser

and hope that Lennon students will

sell as much as possible!

Thanks for a great start to the year … but there is still much to do.

As a school effort though, the girls have done extremely well in external competitions, especially when it comes to football- the Under 16 team played away to Idsall 2 weeks ago,and won, going through to the semi-finals of the County plate, against Thomas Telford next. It’ll be a tough match! Our Under-13 team played a very impressive match against Madeley Academy but unfortunately lost in the quarter finals. Next term myself and Zoe will encourage more girls to get involved, putting fixtures on the notices to raise awareness about upcoming matches. Keep competitive Lennon! Leah :)Leah :)Leah :)Leah :)
