Lena Dunham looked at ease in a mod Lisa Perry dress as she greeted guests last Saturday night at the fourth annual Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink fund-raiser.

Her morning wasn’t as calm when she tried to paddle-board in the middle of Sag Harbor Bay along with 200 others to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Choppy winds and strong currents pulled her in the wrong direction. “I wondered if I would ever see my family again,” she said.

Luckily for her, Laird Hamilton, the renowned surfer and an event supporter, appeared “like a water god” and guided her and Tracy Anderson, the celebrity fitness guru, to the finish line.

“I’m just very happy to be here right now,” Ms. Dunham said.

After a morning like that, who wouldn’t be?

At any rate, the party portion of the fund-raiser (which raised $1.6 million) was especially pleasant, held under a wind-swept tent in

Page 21: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Bridgehampton between cornfields and Mecox Bay. Matt Lauer, who paddle-boards with his children, was there, as was Nile Rodgers, who paddle-boards near his home on a cove in Westport, Conn., and would be performing at the end of the night.

Gabrielle Reece, the beach volleyball champion and model, who wore a dress that was pinker than any sunburn, and Mr. Hamilton, her perfectly tanned husband, brought along the Hawaii performers Coppin Colburnand his family for traditional singing and fire dancing. The performance made paddle-boarding look about as easy as online shopping.

Gwyneth Paltrow was there, too, and welcomed guests with a speech reminding them that breast cancer touches everyone. “I’ve had two friends who have had double mastectomies this year,” she said.

Ms. Dunham made a speech about the importance of the cause as well. “You’re doing good, and you’re in the Hamptons,” she said. “Isn’t that shocking?” Then she told them to enjoy the beautiful evening.

That was easy enough, with pink Champagne and nibbles of Japanese and Italian food to enjoy, along with custom paddle boards for auction designed by Oprah Winfrey, Tory Burch, Donna Karan, Aerin Lauder and Ms. Perry, a founding supporter of the event, who wore an ensemble of pink and persimmon but did not enter the race that morning. “I’m glad I didn’t because I only like doing it when it’s calm,” she said.

As dusk descended, guests in every shade of pink preened and mingled. Rachel Zoe did too, but in a highly contrarian shade of green. “You don’t have any pink in your entire wardrobe?” one guest asked.

As if to make up for it, a perfectly pink setting sun graced the sky moments later. And then, near the end of the evening, when Chic featuring Mr. Rodgers played for a crowd on the crowded dance floor, a moon as round as a grapefruit rose in the east.

The color? Pink, of course.

Don't you just hate when you're competing in a celebrity paddle boarding race in the Hamptons, and the wind pushes you off course so you have to be rescued by a professional surfer?

UGH. Just the worst, right?

OK, while most of us probably can't relate in any way to the above scenario, that's exactly what happened to Lena Dunham this weekend. The "Girls" star was competing in the Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink charity race on Saturday, and after struggling with the conditions, she began drifting out to sea. Surfer Laird Hamilton, who already had finished the race, then sprung -- or paddled -- into action and not only saved her, but helped guide her to the finish line.

Yes, this is apparently a true story and somehow not a scene in an upcoming movie; Dunham posted photographic evidence of Hamilton's heroics on Instagram.

Published: 13:19 EST, 1 August 2015 | Updated: 09:15 EST, 2 August 2015 Lena Dunham has been busy filming the upcoming fifth season of her HBO hit Girls in New York City the last few months.

So it's no surprise that when a paddle board race to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation was held in the Hamptons on Saturday morning, the charitable 29-year-old was sure to attend.

She joked about the event on Friday after sharing an informative link, listing a few professional athletes that would also be in attendance and writing: 'I'm up against Gabrielle Reese and Laird Hamilton in a water sport race so DEFINITELY BET ON ME.'

Following the race Lena tied the shirt around her waist, and showing off her stylish swimsuit and curves as she walked barefoot around the beach.

She appeared to be going make-up free for the outing, during which she sported a smile as she stopped to speak to a few reporters. She made it! Lena was all smiles as she was spotted darting onto the beach past the bright pink finish line

She was one of a number of stars to attend The Hamptons Paddle and Party for Pink event on Saturday.

But Gwyneth Paltrow made sure to lead the fashion pack at the sunset cocktail party, which was held in Bridgehampton, New York, to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Giving a talk at the charitable event, the 42-year-old looked a vision in a floor-length white gown.

She finished the look with cream, tie-up wedges and wore her signature blonde locks in a sleek style.

Coordinating her make-up with the bright tones in her dress, she wore a slick of red lipstick as she smiled alongside guests including successful fitness instructor Tracy Anderson, who has helped sculpt Gwyneth's svelte body over the years, and entrepreneur Maria Baum, who hosted the bash.

The annual fund-raiser is a two-part event, which sees women take part in the Paddle Board Race, which is held at a multi-skill level, before guests attend a lavish soiree as the sun sets across the opulent location.

Other notable guests at the bash included Girls star Lena Dunham and stylish Rachel Zoe.

Always one to put on a stylish display, fashionista Rachel opted for a scarf-style, multi-toned maxi dress.

She gave the look a bohemian finish by wearing her blonde locks in a crimpled style and accessorising with chunky gold jewellery.

She's made a name for herself as a reality star the founder of a range of low-calorie cocktails, and Bethenny Frankel certainly lived up to the Skinnygirl title on Saturday.

The 44-year-old showed off her slender frame at the Paddle For Pink event in The Hamptons, New York, which was also attended by Lena Dunham.

Bethenny was up bright and early for the charity paddleboarding session, and stripped off her denim shorts to reveal her sporty two-piece underneath.

With her washboard stomach and slim legs on show, the reality star certainly earned her fashion stripe for sexy beach style.

Bethenny styled her brunette bob in beach-ready waves, and also sported a pair of on-trend aviator sunglasses.

Even though she was heading into the sea, the reality star still wanted to look her best and wore a full face of make-up, including shiny red lip gloss.

'Toes before hoes!' Bethenny Frankel survives 'rough' paddle race only to break her toe jumping out of bed By ROSS MCDONAGH FOR DAILYMAIL.COM PUBLISHED: 21:18 EST, 4 August 2015 | UPDATED: 01:42 EST, 5 August 2015 Talk about getting out of the wrong side of the bed. Bethenny Frankel broke her toe on Tuesday, claiming she did it while jumping out of bed. The 44-year-old posted a close up Instagram shot of her damaged digit, which had turned a nasty shade of purple from the bruising.

This little piggy: Bethenny Frankel broke her toe on Tuesday, claiming she did it while jumping out of bed 'This idiot broke her toe jumping outta bed but a rough paddle race Saturday was no prob,' she captioned her Insta post, hashtagging it '#toesbeforehoes'. Somehow, the toe she managed to snap was the middle one of her left foot, while the others escaped uninjured. Her perfect pedicure also somehow survived unmarked, her flawless red nail varnish not even showing evidence of a scratch.

The Real Housewives star did an impressive job using the neighboring toes as a splint as she bandaged all three together. As is the case with most broken toe scenarios, she now must simply wait for the bone to heal. On Saturday, the Skinnygirl founder took part in the Paddle & Party For Pink event in The Hamptons, New York.

Always glamorous: Bethenny may have been going into the sea, but she still wore a full face of make-up

Off we go: The reality star is no stranger to paddleboarding, and confidently headed out into the water

She showed off her stunning figure in a skimpy bikini as she took part in the charity stand-up paddleboarding race. Girls creator Lena Dunham and celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson also appeared at the event, which raised $1.6million.

After Dunham drifted off course and was 'rescued' by pro surfer Laird Hamilton, Frankel posted a snap of an article and gushed over also being mentioned alongside the athlete. 'Being mentioned in a sentence with @lairdhamiltonsurf is like being knighted,' she wrote. 'i believe he's the single greatest athlete on earth. It's he & the water, an unpredictable, living, breathing, terrifying element. #bigwavesurfer #zerofear'

Bethenny Frankel is her own best walking advertisement.

Frankel -- who's 44, by the way -- looked more ripped than the Atlantic cooling off in the Hamptons with a Skinnygirl beverage in hand.

The New York 'Housewife' was there for "Paddle for Pink," a paddleboarding charity event that raises money for breast cancer awareness.

Exercise and a healthy diet ... sure do Bethenny's body good. That string bikini doesn't hurt either.

BRIDGEHAMPTON, N. Y.—What’s black-and-white-and-pink all over? The social scene in the Hamptons, of course.

What? You were expecting a better joke?

Well, it’s a challenge to make things original when it comes to fundraising at the beach, but every year, there’s a little bit of effort in that direction.

First: the black-and-white part.

The Southampton Hospital held its annual summer fundraiser over the weekend. This was the 57th, so you can imagine the déjà vu for many of the guests, among them Somers Farkas; Chuck and Ellen Scarborough; Martin and Audrey Gruss; and Charlie and Kristen Krusen. Next year, there will be new initiatives as the hospital journeys toward building an additional campus at Stoney Brook Hospital, but, as per usual, “all the proceeds from this party go to the emergency room,” said honorary chair Howard Lorber, who has been involved with Southampton Hospital for 10 years and has a house on nearby Halsey Neck Lane.

The theme was “Fantasia,” which came from Jean Remmel FitzSimmons, who was chairing the benefit for the last time.

“I wanted something chic and elegant, so I thought black-and-white attire,” said Ms. Remmel FitzSimmons. As part of the black and white décor, the black-and-white centerpieces of the tables were filled with black-and-white feathers.

“I love flowers, but back in January, I decided I wanted something different, so I thought of feathers,” she said.

Guests were asked to wear black-and-white attire, “and even many of the men wore black tuxedo jackets with white khaki pants,” observed Ms. Remmel FitzSimmons.

Jean Shafiroff, the evening’s underwriting chair, wore white gloves and a black-and-white Oscar de la Renta dress she’d previously purchased but had never worn. She described the gown as “very formal in the tradition of what Southampton would have been like in the ’50s. At least that’s what it looks like when I go back and look at pictures.”

Page 53: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

So where does “Fantasia” fit in?

“Well, it doesn’t really,” said Ms. Remmel FitzSimmons. “It’s just something whimsical. I didn’t want to call it ‘The Black and White Ball.’”

There was a much bigger pop of color in a tent on Horsemill Lane in Bridgehampton, where the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) raised more than $1.6 million at its annual Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink. (The paddle part takes place in the morning in Sag Harbor; the party part is that evening.)

This event is only in its fourth year, but on Saturday, the organizers really stepped up their game. The chief example of that was the boldface names in attendance, who included Jane Krakowski, Lena Dunham, “Girls” producer Jenni Konner, Laird Hamilton and Gabrielle Reece, Bethenny Frankel, trainer to the stars Tracy Anderson and her longtime friend and client, Gwyneth Paltrow.

“Apparently this is the place to be, clearly,” said Ms. Paltrow, who explained that part of her participation stemmed from the fact that two of her friends had double mastectomies this year.

There were also lots of food stations, one of which featured matcha tea floats with vegan ice cream; a raise-the-roof performance by Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, which got the dance floor nice and rowdy; and an appearance by the Coppin Colburn Family of fire dancers who had been imported, along with Mr. Hamilton and Ms. Reece, from Kauai, Hawaii.

“We really killed it this year,” said Bippy Siegal, the chairman and founder of Modern Bank and the founder and chief executive officer of Raycliff Capital.

“I just like to surprise people,” said Maria Baum, who founded the event and, to both moving and comic effect, tends to cry every time she gives a speech at this affair. This year, the tears came as soon as she opened her mouth.

“She promised she wouldn’t cry and we all knew that Performing with fire in the Hamptons was “nothing different” than performing with their family show back in Hawaii, said Mr. Colburn, who had to purchase gasoline at the local Hamptons Ace Hardware Store in order to get the show on the road. “We’re very familiar with the fire codes, and we’ve danced in wind before.”

Many of the guests wore varied hues of pink, though Ms. Anderson, who brought her son Sam, wore a knit white dress. How did she get away without any shades of rose? She smiled and kicked up her leg to show off her pink heels and pointed to a pink flower in her hair.

Ms. Remmel FitzSimmons of the Southampton Hospital said she had no problem whatsoever with pink, but the thought of choosing it as a color scheme for her own event never crossed her mind.

“I love pink. I love color,” she explained. “But I think black and white is so chic, and also, really, no one has to go out and buy anything new.”

It's safe to say stand-up paddleboarding is not Lena Dunham's forte.

On Saturday, the "Girls" star participated in a paddleboarding race in

the Hamptons to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, but

had a bit of trouble making her way to the finish line during the three-

mile course.

Lucky for struggling Lena, Laird Hamilton, surfing's superman, came

to her rescue.

Page 55: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

“He is literally King Triton," Dunham noted in her photo caption.

The pair made it to the finish line, thanks to Hamilton's expertise in

the water.

Hamilton told Allure Magazine that the weather conditions during the

race were not ideal for beginner paddleboarders. The day "started out

Page 56: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

windy," he said, "and the course was downwind in the beginning ... So

some people, with their paddle level, we need to at least make sure

that they could make it back to shore."

After seeing Hamilton's skills on a foil board, we're totally on board

with the King Triton comparison.

DOING PADDLE FOR A CAUSE

Real Housewife Bethenny Frankel hit the high seas for the Paddle for Pink fund-raiser in the Hamptons, whose participants started the day by paddle-boarding in Sag Harbor and ended it with a sunset cocktail party in Bridgehampton. Gwyneth Paltrow and Lena Dunham also stopped by to support the cause and enjoy “Good Times” with Chic featuring Nile Rodgers.

Page 58: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Richard Perry seemed content not to host a party in his North Haven backyard. “Isn’t this more beautiful?” the hedge fund manager said as he looked out on Mecox Bay Saturday night.

The change of venue in the Hamptons had to do with the growth of the Paddle and Party for Pink, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation fundraiser he helped start in 2012.

For three years, Perry and his wife, Lisa, put up portable toilets and invited hundreds of people to mingle on their lawn overlooking Noyack Bay, each year squeezing in more white sofas, buffet tables and celebrities until someone was bound to fall into the pool.

Page 59: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

What an investment: As more guests and sponsors joined, the party’s fundraising total increased -- to $1.6 million this year from about $600,000 in 2012. Perry augmented his pink wardrobe - - a Thom Browne gray shirt with white and pink butterflies and Gucci pants on Saturday -- and the event became a rite of the well-lived Hamptons summer.

Bippy Siegal, founder and CEO of Raycliff Capital, cut short his vacation in Greece to attend, he said as he looked for his wife in the party’s new locale, a very big tent with a clear ceiling on Fairview Farm in Bridgehampton. It could take a while in a tent this size, but Jackie is tall, wasn’t wearing pink, and he had a hunch.

“She’s bidding up the boards,” he said before heading toward a display of stand-up paddle boards for auction. He found her in front of Lisa Perry’s, decorated with paint splatters.

Admiring Eye Gary Cohn, chief operating officer at Goldman Sachs Group Inc., kept an admiring eye on the board his wife created -- featuring the word “love” -- and applauded her effort in the paddle race that morning. The actress Lena Dunham said she wouldn’t have been able to do the race without the help of fitness guru Tracy Anderson and surfer Laird Hamilton.

The awesome entertainment for all: a Hawaiian fire dance after sunset, comfortably far from anyone’s beach house.

Also inspiring were attendees like Elisa Port of the Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai Hospital and Clifford Hudis of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, as well as Jon Gray, global head of real estate at Blackstone Group LP and his wife, Mindy.

Jeans, Genes The Grays’ financial support helped establish the Basser Center for BRCA at University of Pennsylvania, which focuses on the BCRA gene mutations that increase risk for breast, ovarian, pancreatic and prostate cancers. The center holds its first New York fundraising event Nov. 10 at Cipriani Wall Street, where guests are invited to wear jeans and “unzip your genes.”

But let’s not allow fall to creep up on us when we can linger in a supersized version of the Perry backyard. The decor by Lisa Perry included dozens of white sofas arranged VIP-lounge-style around bottles of rose champagne on ice. Restaurants including Harlow East offered tastings on one side of the room. The bar and stage were in the middle.

The level of celebrity was also supersized in the form of Gwyneth Paltrow, who welcomed guests and noted two friends her age had double mastectomies this year. The founder of Goop, the lifestyle website, said she was there to support her business partner Maria Baum, chief executive of Tracy Anderson Mind & Body LLC (Paltrow is an owner).

Page 60: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Baum conceived the Paddle and Party for Pink after finding solace in paddling during her chemotherapy for breast cancer. Some of the event’s first supporters were women she had worked with on Wall Street. The former trader is still the event’s guiding force and “an amazing example of a patient turned advocate,” said Kinga Lampert, co-chairman of the Breast Cancer Resesarch Foundation. As night fell her husband Edward Lampert, the hedge fund manager who runs retailer Sears Holdings Corp., chatted with real-estate developer David W. Levinson.

Page 61: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

When Maria Baum, business partner and close friend of fitness maverick Tracy Anderson, was diagnosed with breast cancer, she had young children with whom she had trouble expressing the complicated feelings her illness brought about. But on her paddleboard, out in the water, she felt free to cry, scream, or simply find peace in her surroundings.

And so it was fitting that when she began to think of ways, as a survivor, to fight for a cure through the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Baum reached out to Laird Hamilton—the

Page 62: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

champion pro surfer turned entrepreneur whose boards she had been using. He donated his goods, and in turn, four years ago, Baum began the tradition of throwing a two-part annual event in the Hamptons, beginning in the day with a paddleboard race. At night, everyone dresses up, in pink of course, to drink, eat, and dance—not to mention bid on Hamilton’s boards, all one-of-a-kinds personalized by the likes of, this year, Oprah Winfrey, Tory Burch, and Donna Karan, amongst others.

On Saturday morning, Lena Dunham took to the water and hilariously documented a near-struggle on Instagram, but made it to the event unscathed, wearing a dress made by Lisa Perry, who both designed Dunham’s college graduation dress and also cohosted the night’s festivities. Dunham spoke of the pursuit women remaining “healthy and powerful” as both a professional and personal prerogative and gave props to Anderson for reminding the actress-writer wunderkind that, indeed, she has “arms, legs, and a stomach.” A surprise guest, Gwyneth Paltrow, who glowed in a floral By Ti Mo number, gave opening remarks, speaking movingly about two close friends her age who both had double mastectomies in the past year.

The night closed out with a raucous performance from the legendary Chic featuring the indomitable Nile Rodgers, and a DJ set by cool kid favorite Brendan Fallis. There were few feet off the dance floor, flanked by a perfect view of the night moon off Mecox Bay—and with good reason: The event was not just a veritable fete, but also raised a cool $1.6 million.

Lena Dunham was rescued by pro surfer Laird Hamilton at the Hamptons

Paddle & Party for Pink Saturday.

A spy at the annual charity paddle-board race, which raised $1.6

million, said: “It was a tough paddle . . . Windy and harder than

expected.”

Hamilton and Bethenny Frankel, who did the race last year and said

the course this time was “gnarly,” finished well.

But Dunham drifted off into Mecox Bay.

“Lena was looking around for help. Laird swam out and dragged her

back on course,” said a spy.

Page 66: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Dunham later posted on Instagram: “Laird Hamilton [came] to save me. He is literally

King Triton . . . he appeared as if from the ocean’s depths and guided me to the finish

line.”

At an afterparty, Gwyneth Paltrow was with boyfriend Brad Falchuk.

“They came separately and weren’t photographed together,” a spy said.

Nile Rodgers and Chic performed for guests including Matt Lauer, Jane Krakowski,

Hannah Bronfman, Tracy Anderson, Gabrielle Reece, and co-chairs Larry and Maria

Baum, Richard and Lisa Perry and Bippy and Jackie Siegal.

Full-figured “Modern Family” actor Eric Stonestreet is looking less so of late, and

spies say a reason could be his friendship with health-loving Bethenny Frankel.

“Eric’s looking thin,” noted an insider, who wondered whether Skinnygirl founder

Frankel’s having an effect.

Stonestreet’s waistline looked trimmer in a pic he posted with Dodgers ace Clayton

Kershaw.

Laird Hamilton on How He Saved Lena Dunham and Tracy

Anderson

August 3, 2015, 4:40:00 PM

This weekend, Lena Dunham and Tracy Anderson went paddleboarding in Sag Harbor, New York (as one does), during the Hamptons Paddle and Party for Pink, which raised $1.6 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Dunham later posted the above picture on Instagram with shout-out to pro surfer Laird Hamilton for saving her during the event. Later that evening, during a party on the water, I caught up with Dunham, her trainer Tracy Anderson, and Hamilton and got to hear their versions of the windswept drama on the high seas.

Tracy Anderson: "It was hilarious. I'm not a paddleboarder, and all of a sudden the wind was really intense. And I'm tiny. I'm strong, but not strong in a paddleboarding way. Lena Dunham and I were drifting. And we were saying, 'Gosh, that lighthouse is really far away.' And all of a sudden Laird Hamilton showed up out of nowhere. And he instructed us very seriously. There was no humor involved at all. Lena and I were dying laughing. Laird is so impressive. Lena thought he was like King Triton."

Allure: "What was going through your mind when Laird turned up?"

Page 73: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Lena Dunham: "Pure joy. I'd seen him briefly on the shore, when he told me not to wear a wetsuit, because I'd overexert myself. Then he appeared as if out of the ocean depths to say, 'You are not going to die here today,' and it felt really good. He said, 'If this gets to be too much, I'm going to tow you back.' And then he told me I was one of the ten hardest workers of the day, which made me feel really good, because Tracy is obviously the person who is responsible for the fact that I can even go two feet on a paddleboard."

Laird Hamilton: "Lena Dunham was on a long list of people I was supporting, encouraging. It started out windy, and the course was downwind in the beginning. And that kind of led everybody astray at the outset. So some people with their paddle level, we need to at least make sure that they could make it back to shore."

If you were wondering what all the A-listers were up to this weekend, we have the answer for you: paddle boarding. Everyone from Bethenny Frankel and Rachel Zoe to Lena Dunham, Nile Rodgers, Jane Krakowski, and Gwyneth Paltrow headed out to the Hamptons to attend the Paddle & Party for Pink on Saturday (August 1).

Page 79: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

The Bridgehampton event raised $1.6 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The stars rocked their beach-party best, as well as more casual attire to hit the water. But the day wasn't without some drama. While Bethenny reportedly had an OK time on her board (she has been paddle boarding all summer, so we're not that surprised), Lena needed some assistance from pro surfer Laird Hamilton.

Page 81: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

According to eyewitnesses, the Girls star has some trouble out on the water, but lucky for her Laird was not too far away. She elaborated on Instagram:

So summery! Lena Dunham and Gwyneth Paltrow were just a few of the celebs who brought a pop of pink to the Hamptons last weekend. The best part? It was all for a good cause — the Paddle & Party for Pink event raised more than $1.6 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation!

Lena Dunham, 29, Gwyneth Paltrow, 42, Bethenny Frankel, 44, and other stylish ladies ventured out to Bridgehampton, NY, on Aug. 1 to splash around in a morning paddle race and chill at a sunset party. While the stars were there to raise money for an important cause, they also looked fab in floral gowns and bright color block frocks. Check out the gallery to see pics of everyone’s pretty outfits! Lena, who participated in the paddle race, looked very cool for the summer in a pink and orangeLisa Perry frock (which even had pockets!) and pale pink, pointy-toe pumps that featured pink pom-pom ties. Surprise guest Gwyneth looked positively statuesque in a loose, flowy By TiMo exclusive for goop gown with a gorgeous pink flower design and accessorized with sky-high platform Paul Andrew shoes.

Bethenny showed off her legs in a matching top and shorts set that had mod vertical stripes, and she paired her separates with an ivory clutch and nude stiletto sandals. This was definitely one of the most stylish events of the summer! Guests at the party, which was hosted by Moet Ice Imperial, also enjoyed music by Grammy-winning artist CHIC featuring Nile Rodgersset and a set by DJBrendan Fallis.

Lena Dunham At Hamptons Paddle Party — Celebs Dress In Pink For BCRF

The $1.6 million raised for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) was a record-breaking number. The festivities raised money with activities like the auction of one-of-a-kind Laird Hamilton Standup paddle boards that were designed and autographed by designers like Donna Karan, Tory Burch and Lisa Perry, and stars includingOprah and Bethenny Frankel. Just about everyone wore pink in some form or fashion, from fuschia frocks to bows on toes. Pink isn’t just for October anymore!

Page 87: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Think pink. That was the mantra of the fourth-annual Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink on Saturday, in Bridgehampton. The event, benefitting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, drew stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, Lena Dunham, Tracy Anderson, and Nile Rodgers — all dressed in the rosy shade in an effort to draw attention to the cause of breast cancer research.

The all-day event began with a paddleboarding contest on Sag Harbor’s Havens Beach and drew to a close with a dance party on Mecox Bay — with the intention of raising funds for BCRF, through donations and a silent auction of 11 special paddleboards designed by the likes of Tory Burch, Aerin Lauder and Oprah.

Dunham said that she was honored to help host the festivities. “I feel so lucky that there are a few people on the planet who care about what I have to say and that I have the opportunity to talk about things that are important to me,” she said. While the “Girls” star has often turned her attentions toward women’s reproductive causes, she said that, “Breast cancer research is a new frontier for me. I feel really lucky that the people at BCRF were willing to educate me.”

Rodgers said that the evening was meaningful for him because, “I’m a cancer survivor myself.”

The disco star — who just released a new album with his band Chic in June — said that his resurgence onto the music scene in the runoff of his 2013 collaboration with Daft Punk has ingratiated a new kind of fan to his music. “I’ve never been recognizable, which is fine…but being in that Daft Punk video it was the first time people started to see me,” he said. “Because Daft Punk has the robot thing going on, a lot of people who had never bought Daft Punk records before or heard them thought that Pharrell and I were Daft Punk, and the robots were our cool props.”

Page 88: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Rodgers and Chic headlined the event’s cocktail portion with a performance that sent the crowd’s Moët & Chandon-fizzed crowd into a raucous, Jack Rogers-stomping dance scene.

The event raised more than $1.6 million for breast cancer research.

Lena Dunham Stole Someone’s Underwear and Ran It

Up a Flagpole

August 2, 2015

At this weekend’s Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink, which benefited the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Lena Dunham spoke about women’s health, a subject about which the writer-director-actress is very passionate. During one of the speeches, a giant pink centerpiece fell from the ceiling and hit our reporter in the head. (It hurt, but she's okay. A picture of the offending sphere is included at the bottom of the post.) After the accident, a concerned Dunham came over for a chat about water sports, sleepaway camp, and how she often gets hit in the head herself (with falling props).

Hi ... Oh my gosh, are you okay?

I’m fine, just a little shaken up. No, that was terrible. I’m so sorry!

It’s not your fault. Lisa Perry’s team rushed over to me, and Lisa sat with me. Oh, I love her! Seriously, I feel badly.

Thank you. And don’t be embarrassed.

I’m in a bit of a daze. I think embarrassment will kick in later. [We both laugh.] Things fall on my head on set all of the time.

Really? Like what? Props and all kinds of things. I don’t know why, but this kind of stuff always happens to me.

Speaking of misadventures, we’re curious about the craziest thing that’s happened to you while you were doing water sports. Okay, this is the perfect day to ask me this.

Do tell. This happened today. I raced in the paddle-boarding event this morning. I mean, I’m not sure I was really racing, but you know. I mean, I was excited. No, I was thrilled to be paddle-boarding with Tracy Anderson, but things kind of got out of control.

What happened? I didn’t think I was going to die, but I thought maybe it was a possibility. So we were out there for a really fucking long time. Please excuse my French. And it got scary. I mean, I sort of thought the great deep, blue ocean might swallow me up. This kind of thing does happen. I started drifting pretty far, and I couldn’t stop.

Page 94: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

What did you do? Laird Hamilton had to come and help me. Without him, I'd still be drifting. He rescued me, and I’m not dramatizing. I didn’t know what I was doing.

Okay, that’s kinda awesome to be rescued by a surfing legend. It’s almost worth it, just for the story. Right?

What did he do? Well, he explained to me that I was completely misusing my paddleboard. Then he was like, Sit down and don’t be hero. You don’t need to stand up while paddling back. Look, you're working hard, but you need to keep at it. I just want you to get back to the shore.

It sounds like it might have been the pep talk you needed. Totally. He was supportive, but he also showed me what I needed to do. I was doing the strokes or whatever completely wrong. Plus, Laird promised to tow me back in if I wasn’t making enough progress.

Was Tracy with you the entire time? Yeah, she had some problems, too. But Tracy and I left as a team and came back as a team, and I’m really proud of that.

And didn’t you paddle pretty far? Yes, you’d be surprised how long three miles is on a paddleboard. It’s a long way!

Yeah, and you’ve gotten in such good shape. That’s nice of you. I mean, look, when I’m shooting the show it’s incredibly hard for me.

Why? Well, I’m waking up at 5 a.m. and not getting home until at least 10 p.m. All I want to do is eat doughnuts and sleep. But lately I have a better relationship with my body. Now I think, Okay, exercise isn’t about vanity; it’s about strength. Frankly, I’m too busy not to take care of my body. It’s a profound shift in my thinking and how I feel. Now I feel good, and it's just a better way to live.

And shifting gears, I know that you went to sleepaway camp ... Stop it! I love sleepaway camp! I love sleepaway camp!

You’re enthusiastic. I’m not kidding, it was so much fun. I went to Fernwood Cove Camp for Girls for three years. But camp was a bit of a different experience for me.

How so? Hmmm, honestly, summer camp was deeply emotional.

Frenemies or was this a good thing? I mean — it was a good experience. It was. But it was girls-only in a bunk. Obviously things got testy. Really testy.

Does anything specific come to mind? You know, a lot angst and emotional growth.

How so? Just girls growing up and being difficult. And drama.

What about pranks? I’m sure you pulled some high jinks at camp. Yes, I did the classic underwear up the flagpole.

I only think about that happening to people in a cheesy made-for-TV movie. Nope, it's actually a thing, and we plotted it out and everything. We stole the underwear from our counselor and ran it up the flagpole. Now, it didn’t quite flap in the wind as much as I was hoping. But it happened.

Gwyneth Paltrow, in a floor-length white dress, kicked-off the evening by welcoming guests declaring, “this is the party to be at in the summer.” Lena Dunham also took the stage, looking out over the crowd and remarking, “you are just all so attractive.” She regaled the crowd with the story of her day paddleboarding and told guests that they too could become professional surfers like Laird Hamilton “in just a few days of work” if they bid on a board. She ended her speech by encouraging everyone to “enjoy the champagne!” Tracy Anderson, wearing a crocheted dress that revealed her toned body, along with fuchsia Louboutins, also joined them to speak on the importance of physical fitness. Rachel Zoe, with hubby Roger in tow, arrived in a glamorous caftan and gold lame platform heels. The stylist posed next to the one-of-a-kind surfboard that she designed. As the evening wore on, celebrities and guests sipped on Moet Ice Imperial, the first champagne to be served over ice, and enjoyed a luxe spread of bite-sized treats. Late in the evening Jenna Krakowski slipped in almost undetected and grabbed a quick glass of bubbly before the party was over.

The Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel showed off her fit and fabulous bikini body! Bethenny hit the beach in Sag Harbor, New York over the weekend in a cute striped bikini. She was attending the Paddle For Pink event, representing her Skinnygirl brand.

Bethenny was photographed on the beach, carrying one of her Skinnygirl drinks. She also shared a photo on Instagram of her Skinnygirl surfboard. She captioned the pic, “Happy to support #Paddle4Pink for @BCRFcure today. Such a great cause!”

Even though she seems to always be doing a million things at once, Lena Dunham found some extra time in her schedule recently for an important cause. Lena Dunham headed to the Hamptons to support breast cancer research, and wore the most awesome outfit probably ever to do so. The Girls creator/star attended the Hamptons Paddle and Party in Pink fundraiser, where she competed in the 3-mile paddleboard race (which almost ended in disaster — luckily, pro-surfer Laird Hamilton was there to save the day) and gave a speech on women's health, all while dressed in a gorgeous (and thematic) bright pink shift dress, paired with some absolutely killer pom-pom'd shoes. Now, unfortunately, we can't all get heroically rescued by Laird Hamilton whilst paddleboarding in the name of breast cancer research in the Hamptons... but we can take some summer style tips from Ms. Dunham.

Lena often takes flak for her kooky personal style, but in my book, it doesn't get much better than breezy neons and quirky statement shoes (or layer cake-esque Giambattista Valli, as the case may be). Now, if you're blessed with a large amount of disposable income,

Page 115: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

you might want to copy her look down to the letter (her Lisa Perry frock is still available online, but it will run you up almost $1K), but for the rest of us? Well, we can always go the fast fashion route.

Let's take a look at the look in question — then get to the shopping!

Lena Dunham made quite a splash on Saturday morning during a paddle board race in the Hamptons!

The 29-year-old, who showed off her curves in a geometric print bikini, needed some assistance from pro surfer Laird Hamilton after struggling to finish the three-mile trek, which benefited the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Page 119: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Sharing a blurry photo from the event, the Girls creator wrote, "this is an image of Laird Hamilton

coming to save me. He is literally King Triton and as I struggled to complete BCRF's Paddle for Pink...he

appeared as if from the ocean's depths and guided me to the finish line."

Page 120: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

She hilariously added, "I kept screaming 'will I make it?!' like we were in a disaster movie. He said 'yes, Lena, we will.' Ladies, there are still a few heroes we can count on... #ThankYouLaird #paddleforpink #3miles."

We're thrilled to see that you made it out alive, Lena!

Over 200 contestants registered to compete in three-or six-mile heats with renowned paddleboard

proponent Laird Hamilton present to pass out pointers and awards. While contenders paddled furiously

around buoys marking the course, spectators browsed through booths offering complimentary Centrum

mint vitamins, Tembatoo granola, Skinny Girl sparkling water, grilled-on-the-spot blackberry breakfast

pizza, Hamptons coffee, four flavors of Enlighten roasted broad beans, plus bagels and fruit.

Winners and runners up were awarded "bronze, silver, and gold" medals and mini- paddleboard

trophies. Additional prizes were given to participants who raised extra money for the Breast Cancer

Research Fund, sponsor of the event, which was established four years ago by survivor Maria Baum.

After the awards ceremony, participants dispersed until reassembling at Fairview on Mecox Bay for the

evening's Sunset Cocktail Party. Mingling in a translucent white tent with giant pink globes bobbing

overhead, guests sampled snacks and sipped Moet & Chandon rose and ice champagnes. After

Gwyneth Paltrow and Lena Dunham greeted the crowd on behalf of their friend Maria Baum, guests bid

on designer paddleboards, watched dramatic Hawaiian fire dancers, listened to cancer survivor

GRAMMY Award winner Nile Rodgers, and danced to a music set by DJ Brendan Fallis.

Among those attending were Jane Krakowski, Matt Lauer, Jason Sehorn, Hilary Rhoda, Sean Avery,

Molly Sims, Nicole Miller, Lisa and Richard Perry, Lisa and Harry Slatkin, Christina Steinbrenner, Darcy

Miller. More than $1.6 million was raised and a pink-tinged sunset was the penultimate pinnacle of a

picture perfect.

The fourth annual Hamptons Paddle and Party For Pink raised a record $1.6 million for the

Breast Cancer Research Foundation on Saturday, with donations still coming in on Monday

morning.

The event, created by Sag Harbor resident Maria Baum, was co-hosted by Baum and her

husband, Larry Baum, as well as Lisa and Richard Perry, and Jackie and Bippy Siegal. The

day began with a morning paddle race at Havens Beach in Sag Harbor, where participants

chose from a three- or six-mile distance, followed by an evening party at Fairview on Mecox

Bay in Bridgehampton.

Baum—a mother of four and a breast cancer survivor—created the race because of her love

of paddleboarding, which she says was instrumental in providing stress relief while she was

battling cancer. Baum owned a Laird Standup board, and during her solitary morning

paddles, she’d look down at the word “LAIRD” on her board—referring to Hawaiian big wave

surfer and SUP pioneer Laird Hamilton—and have imaginary conversations with him, airing

all the fears, frustrations, and other emotions she kept pent up while trying to manage her

illness and shelter her four children from the frightening reality of cancer.

“I would paddle out really hard and talk to Laird and come back so peaceful,” Baum, who

Page 143: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

has since recovered from breast cancer, said. “I was able to do my job and take care of my

kids and nobody really knew what was going on.”

Baum was introduced to Hamilton and his wife, former pro volleyball player Gabby Reece,

by mutual friends. When Baum shared her story with Hamilton and Reece, they ultimately

joined her cause, and flew to the Hamptons from their home in Hawaii to participate in the

paddle during its second year. They were unable to attend last year, but returned again for

the fourth edition of the race this past weekend.

“They’re just unbelievable,” Baum said, expressing her gratitude for Hamilton and Reece’s

support. “It’s just really, really meaningful.”

Baum said she was overwhelmed in general by the support of everyone in attendance—from

recongizable celebrities like Hamilton and Reece to the Pierson High School classmates of

her two oldest children, Sabrina and Greg, who helped volunteer at the race on Saturday.

Because of logistics, the event had to close out at 200 participants this year, but Baum

added that she and Lars Svanberg of Main Beach Surf and Sport, who coordinates the

event, are working on ways to increase the number of paddlers next year. Baum also added

that she and others involved with the event are working on bringing it to both Malibu,

California, and Miami, Florida in 2016. Since the event began four years ago, it has raised

more than $5 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and Baum became a BCRF

board member this year.

“We really want to keep the momentum going,” Baum said.

Men and women of all ages and abilities got out on the water at Havens Beach on Saturday,

mixing in with celebrities like fitness guru Tracy Anderson, as well as Lena Dunham, actress

and creator of the television show “Girls,” and former New York Giants football star Jason

Sehorn. The conditions were challenging, with a strong breeze and current—at one point,

Hamilton came to Dunham’s aid when she was having difficulty navigating her paddleboard.

But Baum said she was impressed by the dedication of all the paddlers, especially novices,

like Dunham.

“I was shocked by how committed everyone was,” she said.

Awards for the paddleboard race were divided into categories according to distance (three-

mile or six-mile) and size of the paddleboard (14-foot, 12-foot-6-inches and 12-foot-2

inches-and-under). In the six-mile race, Andrew Dima won the 14-foot division and Claudia

Lebenthal was the top female finisher; Evelyn O’Doherty won the 12-6 division, followed by

Jessica Bellofatto and Stephanie Shideler, before the first male, Jason Sehorn, took fourth;

and in the 12-2-and-under division, Felipe Gili was first, followed by top female finisher,

Amy Korpus, in second.

In the three-mile division, Chris Hanson was first, while Ann Welker was the top female in

the 14-foot division; in the 12-6 division, Chris Dowling was first and Jennifer Place was the

top female, taking second; and in the 12-2-and-under division, Angie Duke was first,

followed by Kate Stewart, who took third and was the top female in that division.

Lena Dunham, sex symbol. You know what makes someone hot? It’s not toned, fit bodies. It’s confidence.

Confidence to know that you’re the shit. Confidence to wear a bikini when the less confident would cover

up every part of their body and not let their stomachs ooze over the helpless fabric of a bikini bottom. Props

to Dunham for maintaining such confidence even though dumb people crack sarcastic jokes and body shame

them. If these pics don’t make it to her 2016 swimsuit calendar, there’s no justice in this world.

It was a weekend for sunbathers and beach bums out East. With the calendar flipping to August and temperatures hitting 90 degrees, people headed to the Hamptons to soak in every bit of a three-day span that proved why Long Island was made for summer.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) raised more than $1.6 million, a record-breaking achievement at its fourth annual Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink. The two-part summer event was co-hosted by Maria & Larry Baum, Lisa & Richard Perry and Jackie & Bippy Siegal, which involved a WPA-sanctioned morning paddle race in Sag Harbor and a sunset party at Fairview on Mecox Bay in Bridgehampton. Surprise guest Gwyneth Paltrow, wearing By TiMo exclusive for goop, opened the evening with a moving introduction for her dear friend Maria Baum. Lena Dunham, wearing Lisa Perry, shared her passion for women’s health to the crowd of more than 600 guests that included Tracy Anderson, Jenni Konner, Gabby Reece & Laird Hamilton, Tracy Anderson, Jane Krakowski, Matt Lauer, Jason Sehorn, Hilary Rhoda & Sean Avery, Molly Sims & Scott Stuber, Rachel Zoe & Rodger Berman, Nicole Miller, Hannah Bronfman & Brendan Fallis, Lisa & Richard Perry, Bethenny Frankel, Thom Filicia, Breckin

How did Laird Hamilton rescue Lena Dunham and Tracy Anderson at Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink, and who shared their secret to a successful Hamptons event? Jeffrey Slonim has the scoop on that and more in this week’s celebrity news….

Who Rescued Lena Dunham & Tracy Anderson at The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink?

On Saturday, The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink, which raised $1.6 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, was held in a clear tent on Mecox Bay. Lena Dunham and Tracy Anderson laughed about paddling for the charity earlier that morning in Sag Harbor—the wind was sweeping them away from land but Laird Hamilton paddled up to the rescue. Dunham thought he looked like King Triton. We also noticed Gwyneth Paltrow in TiMo for Goop, Matt Lauer, and Bethenny Frankel

The fourth annual Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) raised a record-breaking $1.6 million over the weekend. The summer soirée was co-hosted by Maria and Larry Baum, Lisa and Richard Perry, and Jackie and Bippy Siegal. The two-part event started on Saturday morning with a morning paddleboard race in Sag Harbor and ended with a sunset event on Mecox Bay in Bridgehampton.

Baum founded the annual fundraiser in 2012 after she was diagnosed with breast cancer and she began paddle boarding. “Paddle boarding is a personal reprieve for me. As a breast cancer survivor, the sport gave me and continues to give me a much-needed outlet. Sharing it with others while raising funds for life-saving research is my personal way of paying it forward,” said Baum, who currently serves as a BCRF board member.

Page 154: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Speakers at the event included Gwyneth Paltrow, who opened the party with a heart-filled speech for her close friend Baum, and Lena Dunham who spoke passionately about women’s health to over 600 guests. One-of-kind of paddleboards were auctioned off during the evening, designed and signed by Donna Karen, Aerin Lauder, Tory Bruch, Lisa Perry, Oprah, Bethenny Frankel, and more. Other attendees were Jane Krakowski, Matt Lauer, and Rachel Zoe & Rodger Berman. To top off the star-filled night was a performance by CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers, and afterward music by acclaimed DJ Brendon Fallis.

Serenity can be found off shore on our local waterways, far from the bustling main streets and clogged roadways

that consume the East End every summer season. There are times when the two worlds collide—crowds jockeying

for position on the water—as was the case Saturday at Havens Beach in Sag Harbor, where close to 200 paddlers

turned out for one of the most anticipated benefits of the summer season.

The Hamptons Paddle for Pink was held for the fourth straight year, and for the fourth straight year it raised more

money than the record-setting year before, with a total of $1.6 million pledged this year for the Breast Cancer

Page 156: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Research Foundation. Havens Beach on Saturday set an inspiring stage for Maria Baum, a Sag Harbor resident,

breast cancer survivor and founder of Paddle for Pink.

“Paddle boarding is a personal reprieve for me,” Baum said. “As a breast cancer survivor, the sport gave me and

continues to give me a much-needed outlet. Sharing it with others while raising funds for life-saving research is my

personal way of paying it forward.”

Hamptons Paddle for Pink founder Maria Baum, left, with fitness guru Tracy Anderson at Havens Beach on Saturday.

Chris Hanson, 32, of Greenport, who works as a boat captain at the Waterfront Marina in Sag Harbor, won the 3-

mile race with a time of 46:05. Tom Florio, 45, of New York was second in 46:19 and Nathan Reese, 37, of

Sunnyside was third in 48:55.

Complete results are available at prtiming.com.

Andrew Dima, 27, of Rockaway Park, won the 6-mile SUP race with a time of 1:16:16 and was followed closely by

Joseph Laundrie, 29, of West Sayville (1:17:15) and Rick Drew, 54, of East Hampton (1:17:24).

All three competitors said afterward that the three-lap course off Sag Harbor presented some serious challenges.

“It was a tough course,” said Drew, who manages Main Beach Surf and Sport in Wainscott and helps organize a

series of paddle events every summer, including the upcoming Great Peconic Race on September 20 and the Race

for Ocean Rescue on October 10. “At the far turn we had a little wind against the tide creating a rip line and they

placed the buoy right on the rip line. The turns were very challenging because you had winds and chop rocking the

board.”

Page 157: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Both Dima and Laundrie are experienced distance paddlers and will compete in the SEA Paddle NYC race

circumnavigating Manhattan on August 15, a 25-mile trek that has raised over $1.8 million for environmental

preservation and numerous autism non-profits. The strategy involved in these distance paddles varies with the

conditions, Dima said after finishing on Saturday.

“Usually in the beginning there is a drafting system where everyone takes turns leading the way, causing a little

bit less resistance,” Dima said. “But this was just an all-our brawl today because it was just wind and waves.”

Pro surfer Laird Hamilton was on hand for Saturday’s paddle in Sag Harbor.

Stand-up paddling continues to grow as a sport and as a causal pursuit for people of all ages and ability levels.

More and more non-profit organizations and charities are capitalizing on the popularity, using paddling and the

East End’s pristine waterways as a way to raise funds for their specific causes.

One of the first to do this was Paddlers for Humanity, which on August 29 will host the 10th annual Block Paddle,

an 18-mile open ocean paddle from Montauk Point to Block Island. The event is not just designed for expert

paddlers or athletes, with all levels welcome. The approximate six-hour paddle will begin around 6 a.m. on the

north side of the Montauk Lighthouse and end at Champlin’s Marina on Block Island. At least four support boats will

be in the water along with a handful of jet skis and experienced ocean rescue personnel. Mercifully, a return ferry

will take paddlers back to Montauk at 5 p.m.

“These events are all great, and it’s wonderful all the fundraising that’s involved,” said Fred Doss, the co-founder

and co-president of Paddlers for Humanity, which has raised over $1 million through the Block Paddle and other

events in support of comprehensive mental health programs for children, including greater early intervention

outreach, resiliency, and anti-bullying campaigns.

Page 158: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Paddlers in the Atlantic Ocean on the way from Montauk to Block Island last year.

“We’re unique in that it’s open ocean and the distance is about 18 miles,” Doss said about the Block Paddle. “It’s

an endeavor, but we stress to everyone that it’s not a race. It’s an opportunity to do something very unique. We’re

always surrounded by support boats, we stay together. There’s a real sense of comfort.”

The charity paddle season won’t end with Labor Day, either. Paddlers participating in the Great Peconic Race on

Sunday, September 20, will attempt to circumnavigate Shelter Island in support the Peconic Baykeeper

organization and its protection of local waters. The full course is 19 miles around Shelter Island, with an 11-mile

half course also offered as an option. Unlike other events, the Great Peconic Race is exactly that, a race where

male and female winners will earn a $1,000 prize.

Regardless of where the money flows, several things have become clear through the emergence of these paddling

events on the water. The first is that paddling, and stand-up paddling in particular, is as popular as ever. The

second is that communities, friendships and lasting relationships continue to grow and build around the water, a

true East End way of life.

“It’s probably one of the best feelings in the world to have all this support and love,” said Hanson, the winner of

Saturday’s 3-mile paddle in Sag Harbor. “Everyone’s here sharing a sport we can all do. It’s really amazing.”

Lena Dunham had to be rescued when she ran into difficulties during a charity paddleboard race on Saturday (01.08.15). The ‘Girls’ creator was taking part in the Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink when she drifted off course and professional surfer Laird Hamilton came to save her. She explained on Instagram: “He is literally King Triton and as I struggled to complete BCRF’s Paddle for Pink (an amazing event to support breast cancer research) he

appeared as if from the ocean’s depths and guided me to the finish line. “I kept screaming ‘will I make it?!’ like we were in a disaster movie. He said ‘yes, Lena, we will.’ Ladies, there are still a few heroes we can count on… #ThankYouLaird #paddleforpink #3miles (sic).” The New York Post’s Page Six reported that Lena drifted off course into nearby Mecox Bay and Laird, 51, went after her. A source said: “It was a tough paddle . . . Windy and harder than expected. Lena was looking around for help. Laird swam out and dragged her back on course.” Following the race, celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow, Jane Krakowski and Tracy Anderson enjoyed a party which included entertainment by Nile Rodgers and Chic. The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink benefits the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The stars came out for the fourth-annual Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink fundraiser in Bridgehampton last Saturday. Amagansett’s Gwyneth Paltrow, Girls star Lena Dunham, celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson and more attended the event, which featured a paddle-boarding contest and a silent auction of boards designed by Tory Burch, Oprah and Aerin Lauder. The bash helped raise more than $1.6 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

In the mix at the party later that night we spotted Jane Krakowski, Laird Hamilton and Gabrielle Reece, designers Lisa Perry and Nicole Miller, celebrity stylist and designer Rachel Zoe, Today show host Matt Lauer, Project Runway executive producer Desiree Gruber, model Molly Sims, Bethenny Frankel of The Real Housewives of New York City, interior designer Thom Felicia, model and DJ Hannah Bronfman, Michael and Marci Warren, and Lauren and Charlie Walk. Nile Rodgers and Chic performed after a team of Hawaiian fire dancers lit up the party.

DUNHAM COULD GET A PADDLING

Lena Dunham doesn’t like her chances in Saturday’s charity paddleboard race. The “Girls” star, who’s taking part in the Paddle for Pink event, tweeted, “I’m up against (volleyball champion) Gabrielle Reece and (surfing star) Laird Hamilton in a water sport race so definitely bet on me.” Also expected at the race on Mecox Bay, sponsored by Moet & Chandon, are designers Tory Burch and Donna Karan.

I do think there is something magical about having a cutting garden,” says Aerin Lauder, who can be found on

a typical morning cutting white peonies, roses, hydrangeas and dahlias for the dining table of her Greek-revival

home. She shares her love of white flowers with her grandmother, Estée, as evidenced in the 2007 fragrance

Tuberose Gardenia that she created in honor of her famous grandmother. It’s no wonder that Aerin has

reprised the idea of the pristine white flower with her latest fragrance, dubbed Rose de Grasse, from her

eponymous collection of fragrances, home décor, cosmetics and fashion accessories. “They accent any room

and you only need two stems to fill a vase,” she says of a variety called dinner plate dahlias. “They’re so easy,”

she muses. The key descriptive here is easy, which is Aerin’s approach to her very full life. The effortless

beauty, avid philanthropist, not to mention determined businesswoman and consummate New Yorker’s

Hamptons home was once a retreat where her famous grandmother spent summers.

“It was my grandmother’s home so there are lots of elements that I’ve kept,” she says of the summer

getaway. “Whether it’s her blue and white wallpaper or her vintage Town and Country and Architectural

Digest magazines,” which Aerin keeps in a big wicker basket in the living room for rainy-day

perusing. “Estée’s furniture is left in place, but at the same time I’ve added a layer which brings our

family into the home.” For starters, Aerin and her husband constructed an addition to the two-bedroom

Page 187: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

“Tara.” The name refers to Gone with the Wind’s plantation, which Estée Lauder modeled her home

after, complete with a white-columned façade.

Although the house is in some ways a tribute to her larger-than-life grandmother, Aerin Lauder

incorporates everyday family memorabilia as design elements. “A basket of sports equipment, sisal rugs,

photographs from (my sons) sports games along with mixing in children’s artwork in vibrantly colored

frames all add an element of whimsy,” she says. It’s obvious that family remains her number one

focus. The resulting vibe is a summer hearth—an extension of her warm and easy manner.

She describes the Southampton home’s decor as “traditional with a modern twist” and adds, “I think

color is really important; we have a bright blue dining room with pops of color throughout the house. But

we also have a black-lacquered library which is so great; even though you would think black is a winter

color, it’s perfect all year-round.”

Although art was a big part of her childhood, (her father and uncle started New York’s Neue Galerie,

which boasts painter Gustav Klimt’s A Woman In Gold as part of its permanent collection), Aerin’s

Hamptons home’s walls are lined with simple beach images from local photographers. She muses, “Yes,

I’ve been surrounded by art my whole life, but at the same time, I love Clifford Ross’ photographs of

calming waves on Long Island’s beaches. I think The Drawing Room in East Hampton has amazing prints

and artwork, especially the work of painter, Donald Sultan,” she says, which speaks volumes about her

penchant for low-key, Hamptons living.

Page 188: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

As far as her Hamptons routine, “I don’t have one,” she confesses, but later concedes, “Mornings I like

to start my day with a coffee from the Sagaponack General Store, which I love, then I come back for a

long beach walk with my three dogs,” she says. She’s got two Brittanys and a dachshund. Other times

she wakes up early to make a large country breakfast of pancakes, bacon, eggs and muffins. Although

she doesn’t have a vegetable garden, she frequents the lush farms that punctuate the Hamptons

landscape and buys fresh-cut flowers and seasonal produce from their local roadside stands. “Different

farm stands have different flowers, and I love to frequent them all.”

When asked about her summer social calendar, she doesn’t skip a beat. “I love the The Hamptons

Paddle and Party for Pink event that happens every year at Lisa Perry’s place. I always design a paddle,

which gets auctioned off,” she remarks. Each year fashion designers emblazon paddles with their unique

styles. The party-and-paddle race is slated for August 1st in Sag Harbor and raises funds for the Breast

Cancer Research Foundation. The once yearly event has raised 3.5 million to date earmarked for

advancing the cause of finding a cure for breast cancer. “Obviously the Breast Cancer Research

Foundation is very close to my family,” she says of the charity that her aunt, Evelyn Lauder, started in

1993. “I’m attending the yearly BCRF’s gala tonight,” she adds. The ball dubbed the Hot Pink Party

transforms the legendary Waldorf-Astoria into a pink-and-gold palace and on that evening, raised seven

million dollars. The influential charity has raised over $550 million since its inception and is deeply

involved in every major breakthrough in breast cancer, from its prevention and diagnosis, to its

treatment.

Aerin also holds the charity First Books dear to her heart. The 22-year-old fund puts books in the hands

of children who would otherwise not have them in order to promote learning.

With several homes to maintain, children and family to love, and ample philanthropic pursuits, it’s easy

to forget that Aerin is a formidable businesswoman. After all, her grandmother founded a world-

renowned cosmetic company that currently holds 25 different brands in 150 countries under the Estée

Lauder corporate umbrella. Estée embarked on a simple dream at a time when women were relegated

to getting married and rearing children. That dream transformed into a worldwide empire in which

Aerin currently holds the title of Style and Image Director while also maintaining her lifestyle brand

Aerin, launched in 2012.

Page 189: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Blue shagreen coaster sets, sea urchin porcelain boxes, and Lapis Lazuli picture frames are some of the

chic knick-knacks for sale at the seasonal Southampton boutique. “It’s mostly our items mixed with

handpicked treasures from all over the world that we love,” she adds about the curated mix. Accessories

like a straw-market bag with crocodile handles by Alexandra Knight and tunics and beach dresses by

Talitha are mingled with Aerin signature sandals, raffia heart envelopes, aviator sunglasses and costume

jewelry. You’ll also find Aerin cosmetics and her seven fragrances, with the latest, Rose De Grasse, the

first in a series of premier parfums. “It’s formulated with rose-notes from three distinct regions,” she

reveals, “a Bulgarian rose, a rose from Grasse in the South of France and a Turkish rose.” Other summer

fashion fare are Italian-made Capri sandals with embellished accents, and a cutout slip-on sneaker she’s

named Liza. “I’ll be wearing them both all summer long,” she says without hesitation.

Aerin’s personal style is well documented, from spreads in Vogue to the AERIN ads, where she can be

seen wearing a ravishing embroidered Valentino. But her Hamptons uniform takes on a more earth-

bound approach. “Classic, casual, effortless” she says matter-of-factly, as if anything more would take

away from her rich family life. Besides, a sandy-haired lithe beauty doesn’t need more than white Frame

jeans, cutout trainers of her own design and her newly created self-tanner with a rose scent for her

signature sun-kissed look. She loves Eres’ classic one-piece or string bikini, and waits to see what the

brand’s latest seasonal color will be. Beauty and style come easily for Aerin; it’s part of her DNA.

Page 190: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Although dressing fashionably comes easily for Aerin, it in no way defines her. She insists on carving out

time for a little globe-trotting. Her recent trip to Australia was not all business. “Australia was exciting!

We were there to launch Aerin Beauty, and I had not been back since my honeymoon 19 years ago,” she

says of her April jaunt. “I got a great feel for the city even though we were only there for three days. We

found some great restaurants on Bondi Beach and a wonderful home shop called Becker Minty on

Macleay Street [in Sydney].”

Stay tuned for an Australian vibe seeping into her holiday mix of lifestyle goodies, perhaps with a

breadth of simple white flowers somehow making another appearance—albeit winter ones.

It may only be Monday, but we're already dreaming of the weekend and the all-day soirée we'll be attending this Saturday. Social figures, celebrities, and philanthropists will head out east this Saturday for the fourth annual Hamptons Paddle and Party for Pink, which benefits the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Starting at 8am, paddle boarders of all skill levels will compete in a race into Sag Harbor while spectators soak up the sun and sip mimosa

The fun (and funds) will continue in the evening at the Sunset Party hosted by BCRF board member Maria Baum at the Fairview on Mecox Bay in Bridgehampton. As the sun slowly sets, custom designed paddle boards will be auctioned off. We're especially excited to see which lucky bidder gets to take home the Tory Burch original.

Last year, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Martha Stewart, Nicole Miller, and Jonathan Adler all made appearances. The social scene begins to swirl this weekend. With invitations aplenty arriving in mailboxes,

what warrants a “yes” RSVP from this lot of partygoers? From high donors to the high-octane

fun, Hamptons has been keeping score. A new crop of socials mingle alongside those with a

prestigious pedigree on 2015’s most-invited guest list.

KATIE LEE When this culinary all-star isn’t busy hosting Food Network shows, making appearances, or writing cookbooks (and currently, her second work of fiction), she’s spending time with friends at charitable fêtes like The Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s Paddle & Party for Pink and the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund’s Super Saturday.

NICOLE MILLER This fashion designer and Sag Harbor resident dominates bestdressed lists. The Hamptons not only inspires Miller’s vibrant designs, but also provide a backdrop for many of her lookbooks. Miller was seen last year at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink, the benefit for the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center, and Guild Hall’s Summer Gala.

HILARY RHODA & SEAN AVERY Gisele and Tom, Kerry and Nnamdi, Kristin and Jay—the model-athletecouple formula seems to be the millennials It couple. The engaged duo were spotted chatting to Mary-Kate Olsen and fiancé Olivier Sarkozy at last year’s Paddle & Party for Pink at Lisa Perry’s Noyack Bay home as well as hanging out with Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl at the Solid & Striped Annual BBQ.

Page 198: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

“Supporting breast cancer research is important to me not only as a woman but also as a

mother of a daughter. The odds are overwhelming: One in eight women will be diagnosed with

breast cancer in her lifetime. This disease impacts all of us. The Hamptons Paddle & Party for

Pink event, which will take place this Saturday to benefit the Breast Cancer Research

Foundation (BCRF), is such a unique and fun way for me to help support raising funds for

critical research.

“My amazing friend Tracy Anderson invited me last year to attend, as she and I both share a

passion for women’s health and fitness. Through Tracy, I met Maria Baum, who is the CEO of

the Tracy Anderson Method and a breast cancer survivor. I was inspired by Maria’s story and

how she used paddleboarding as a positive outlet for her treatment and recovery.

“During this year’s event, I am so excited to be participating in the paddleboard race again.

Being out on the water is calming, and engaging with nature can have a positive effect on your

mental health and attitude. Paddleboarding really improves your balance because it requires a

lot of core stability and leg strength. I also love that it provides a full-body workout in such a

tranquil environment. Almost every muscle in the body is used at some point—the core, back,

and abdominal muscles are constantly at work to maintain your balance. In many ways, it is like

yoga on the water for me.

“I wrote my book, A Place of Yes, to help others find happiness and balance through what I

learned throughout the years in finding my own path to yes. A Place of Yes is about how to stop

saying no and start saying yes to your own life. It’s about how to get unstuck and start moving

forward with a vision and a plan and the guts to tackle any obstacles that get in your way. So it

was a natural fit to use this as the inspiration for this year’s design for my paddleboard, which

will be auctioned off at charitybuzz.com for BCRF.

“When you are out on the water paddleboarding, it gives you the chance to reflect on everything

holding you back and think about how you can take back control of your life and make it into

whatever you want it to be. Coming from a place of yes can color everything else you do. No

matter who you are and what you do in life, it will transform you. I want whoever wins this board

through the Charitybuzz auction to have a reminder of how coming from a place of yes will

change their world.

Page 199: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

“I am so proud of the generosity of the Hamptons community, rallying together to raise funds for

the BCRF. Last year the event raised over $1.5 million and is funding incredible research by the

best minds in science and medicine. What most people know about me is that I am open and

transparent, and what I like about BCRF is that it is open and transparent as well. It invests 91

cents of every dollar donated and puts it towards research and public education. You know

exactly where the money is going and that it is having a real impact on those affected by this

insidious disease.

“I am looking forward to seeing the other incredible paddleboards that have been designed by

Lisa Perry, Donna Karan, Aerin Lauder, and Oprah, just to name a few. I love great music and

dancing, and I can’t wait to see the legendary Chic, featuring the wonderful Nile Rodgers, at this

year’s Paddle & Party for Pink. I plan to dance the night away and celebrate raising a ton of

money to support BCRF and breast cancer research!”

On a bright summer day, a slight breeze blows from the east and the cry of a gull is heard in the distance as a set of privet-sheltered gates open to reveal a Belgian block edged, pea grit driveway. The driveway leads to the North Haven home of fashion designer Nicole Miller and her husband Kim Taipale, a financier and partner at Stillwell Holding. Tucked ever so neatly into the trees on the edge of a creek, the home, designed in the 1980s by noted architect Francis Fleetwood, is the ideal representation of Hamptons style, replete with traditional shake shingles, bright white trim and a perfectly peaked roof.

The traditional sensibility of Fleetwood’s clean architectural aesthetic flows across the dark wood floors in the foyer and then spills out in the sunlit great room traversing gracefully to the window-lined dining room. The eye travels up white walls to the vaulted ceiling in the great

Page 201: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

room before taking in the view of the swimming pool, rambling dock and the beckoning creek beyond. Contemporary art by the likes of Andy Warhol, Eric Fischl, April Gornik and David Salle graces the walls. A stunning resin sculpture, covered in metal leaf, by Bryan Hunt is, Taipale explains, set high in the vault of the ceiling beneath a window to “catch the light perfectly just twice a year.”

Brightly colored rugs by Jonathan Adler are the perfect backdrop to Miller’s eclectic assemblage of mid-century modern furniture. “Fortunately my husband and I agree on all the furniture so there was not a problem there,” Miller says during a tour of her home. A pair of Art Deco black leather and metal chairs by Warren MacArthur and a table by Willy Rizzo anchor the living room. Chic Norman Cherner chairs for the entertaining island that sits between the kitchen and living room, both connecting and separating the spaces, are Miller’s most recent find. Vibrant glass vases dot the fireplace mantle under a bold Donald Baechler skull painting. The vintage, wooden pink flamingo that Miller picked up in Dallas and toted home in an airport shopping bag corroborates her admission that she likes to “pick up quirky things when I travel.” A paddleboard, designed by Miller for Evelyn Lauder’s Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) Paddle for Pink event last summer—a paddleboard that she

Page 202: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

says, “will never get used because it’s now a piece of art”—rests against the wall. Stacks of books throughout the home sit at the ready for moments of leisure and inspiration.

Drawn to and inspired by the water, Miller and Taipale went house hunting for a retreat close to the water in the Hamptons. In 1997, the pair stumbled upon what would become their North Haven home. “We loved the fact that it was on the water,” says Miller. “It had a boat dock and we’re really into the water sports. We spend a lot of time wake boarding and waterskiing. We were looking at a lot of different houses and I think the water is what really sold us.”

The couple worked closely with Fleetwood over the years, first adding a dining room. An expansive porch and upper deck would follow for this entertaining couple. “I’m not a tent kind of girl,” recounts Miller. “But I have to say, before we had the porch we would rent a tent. It would fit right against our house so it almost didn’t look like a tent. I would decorate the inside and we would do the banquet table right there.”

The pair, who host one or two big dinner parties over the summer, soon tired of the tent. “One year my husband got so caught up with tent problems and he said, ‘if we ever have a dinner party again we’re putting up a porch because I’m not dealing with this tent situation again.’”

Page 203: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

The tent is long-gone, in its place a wide, covered porch is roomy enough for a long banquet table that seats 40. “Now we do cocktails upstairs which is great, we have a great view. We have cocktails upstairs and then everybody comes down and has dinner here.”

Miller and Taipale met with Fleetwood before his untimely passing in May to design a renovation that will add three guestrooms as well as enlarge the living room and fireplace, with work commencing this fall. “He just planned the new renovations we’re going to do in September. He was such a sweet man,” says Miller. The project will extend the side of the home over a long-forgotten garden. “The second year I was here I had a big garden on the side yard and I built it in a circle. I had the small herbs and everything in the middle. Tomatoes and everything and the very outside was cucumbers. Every weekend I came out and I was weeding that thing like mad. We took one week off, we went to Martha’s Vineyard, and we came back and it was so overrun with weeds and I was like, that’s it I’m never doing that again. We ripped out the whole thing and that was it.”

While she might eschew gardening, Miller is very much at home in her gracious kitchen with its white cabinets topped by black counters and professional stainless steel appliances. A

Page 204: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

quaint collection of wine corks from parties past, colorful vases and petite pots filled with herbs—cilantro, basil, mint—perch on a window ledge above the sink. At the end of a quick jaunt across the back porch (past a set of waders and hunter boots at the back door), over lawn passing the bluestone rimmed gunite swimming pool and brick sundeck, and down the dock is one of Miller’s favorite spots for clamming. “Right out there I go clamming. I have like a great clamming spot. I think I can get about four dozen clams,” she says. Miller serves them chopped up with corn, parsley and hot peppers after steaming them, making her version of linguini and clam sauce.

The avid cook appreciates the close proximity to Sag Harbor. “We just loved the little village and the community.” Favorite haunts for the pair, and their teenage son, Palmer, include Tutto il Giorno for paccheri, Baron’s Cove for seafood stew, Cavaniola’s for cheese, Sag Harbor Baking Company for sweet treats, the Red Horse Market in nearby East Hampton for mozzarella and basil and the farmers markets for everything in between.

Contemplating how her time in the Hamptons inspires and influences her designs, “It’s good to be working on the season that you’re in,” says Miller. “I think it helps being out here in that

Page 205: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

mode and seeing what you don’t have to wear. Or seeing what you’d like to wear or what you’re missing.”

When not on the water and sporting her new line of brightly colored and flora rash guards “perfect for wake boarding,” Miller can be spotted making the rounds at some of the most exclusive events in the Hamptons (this year she’ll co-chair LongHouse Reserve’s annual gala), and she says she may spend some time perusing the many art fairs and local East Hampton galleries, with an eye toward finding something for a bare space in the living room. “Does that look naked?” she asks, pointing to a high point on the wall, vaulted and separating the great room, as her eye squints in thought. One can almost see her interior design process at work before she declares, “We need a triangle or oval or something.”

The health effects of being on the water have long been acknowledged, and living well at sea takes on a deeper meaning this Saturday, when the annual Paddle for Pink is held at Havens Beach in Sag Harbor. The stand up paddleboarding (SUP) race and sunset party raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). Leading the efforts that day will be Laird Hamilton, a highly lauded big-wave surfer and the father of stand up paddleboarding, and his wife Gabby Reece, a former pro volleyball player.

“I’m honored to be able to bring awareness, to help raise money, and do everything I can to kind of get us to a point where we cure this,” says Hamilton. Contributions and participation have grown exponentially since founder Maria Baum, a breast cancer survivor who found solace in SUP during her treatment, first brought Paddle for Pink to the Hamptons in 2012. Last year’s event raised $1.5 million for BCRF.

“The main reason I’m at this event is because of Maria Baum and her connection with me,” says Hamilton of his inspiration for participating. “She was paddling one of my boards when

Page 207: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

she went through her ordeal with breast cancer. She reached out and said, ‘you don’t know me, but we’ve had a long relationship.’ And that touched me.”

Hamilton, Reece, and their three daughters will be on hand the day of the event. The star-studded bash continues later on, as Girls star and creator Lena Dunham will be a special guest at the evening cocktail party.

Though Hamilton is unsure if he’ll paddle the course as he is currently recovering from a hand injury, he’s looking forward to providing encouragement. “I’ll be in the ‘pit group,’ cheering everyone on, giving moral support, paddling stroke techniques. Any way I can help them,” he says.

Participants in the 3 and 6 mile races are well advised to pick Hamilton’s brain for advice, as the Hawaii native is widely credited with founding stand up paddleboarding. “I started in a real organic way. I had my first daughter, and I had some tandem boards made so I could take her surfing,” he says of the sport’s infancy. “Before I took her out, I wanted to get good at riding the boards…I was at the beach, and my friend had a canoe paddle, and I thought, it would be nice if you never had to lay back down [to go surfing], if you just stayed up the whole time.” Hamilton took the canoe paddle and began to play around in the surf. “It was a little short, so I was paddling around and catching tiny waves and riding them. I was immediately struck by not only the perspective, but the whole feeling and the motion and the productivity of [SUP].” Hamilton made prototypes of more appropriate paddles—“In the beginning I probably broke a few of them,” he says—and then began to shape the sport.

Hamilton paddled for about five or six years by himself before the sport really took off. “Initially people, not that they discredited it, but they were like, that’s just Laird, doing something crazy again,” says Hamilton, who enjoys SUP as its own sport, and also as a training tool for his big-wave surfing endeavors. “Stand up is an incredible training tool,” Hamilton continues. “It’s also a very good vehicle for transport. For fitness, it is an incredible workout. It makes you a better surfer, makes you stronger.”

Despite its runaway popularity, the sport has a few naysayers, groups of people who think that surfing should only exist in its original state. But for every person who discredits it, Hamilton knows there is someone who is drawn to it and who will use the sport as a vehicle to raise money for a worthy cause, as Saturday’s event will prove. “[SUP is] for the people that enjoy it,” Hamilton says.

My dear friend Maria Baum is a multihyphenate that would make DaVinci bitchy with envy. She's my business partner, a CEO, a supportive wife and a remarkable mother of four. She is also a courageous breast cancer survivor. Pardon my French but she's just an all out bad ass. That's French, right? When many who have been touched by cancer are given a second chance, that "survivor" is sure to be filled with gratitude, but Maria Baum was not only filled with gratitude but filled with the fight for what is possible and what is right. She does not accept second best. She is life-giving. She is determined. She has the mental strength of Stephen Hawking mixed with a little Michael Jordan. Again, gotta go back to the bad ass thing. I interviewed her over a year ago and have

been lucky enough to continue to learn from her on a daily basis.

Page 214: Lena Dunham: The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink 2015

Please join me and join her in support of the incredible team of doctors, scientists, experts, and researchers out there fighting to protect all of our lives. This event is rare because it's not about the scene; although given Maria's love for people and all of life's pleasures it's a blast, but it's a blast that actually blasts power and money behind the healers.

Inspired by her heart, intelligence, and talent, a few of my fab friends and I have come together to stand beside her and the BCRF. No stranger to advocating for women, my buddy Lena Dunham is hosting this year's event. You've read her book, you've seen her show Girls, (which also means you've seen all her bathing suit parts) so don't miss her custom designed wet suit! Paddling and partying to free the entire boob and it's health. She gets friendship, support, and the meaning of coming together for a greater good. Award winning author, actress, producer, and co-founder of the new lennyletter.com, Lena Dunham is hosting this incredible day! Why? Because I asked her.....once, and she is just that cool.

This Week On FM Magazine: The Breast Cancer Research Foundation July 18, 2015 7:36 PM

Deb Gordon’s guest was Myra Biblowit – President of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), a nonprofit founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder that is committed to helping the thousands of men and women suffering from breast cancer, increase their survivorship, achieve prevention and ultimately find a cure. “We have funded virtually every major breakthrough in breast cancer prevention , diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship since we were founded,” said Biblowit. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s singular focus to fund critical scientific research makes it a unique and streamlined organization, that to date has raised more than half a billion dollars for lifesaving research. “People try to make a decision on where to give their philanthropic dollar – the Breast Cancer Research Foundation gives away 91 cents of every donated dollar for research, and very few organizations can boast of that efficiency,” said Biblowit. Spotlighted The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink- BCRF’s two-part fundraiser happening on Saturday, August 1 that kicks off with a paddleboard race with celebrity guests, Gabrielle Reece, Lena Dunham and Laird Hamilton – and ends with a soiree featuring music by Nile Rodgers. “Paddle, get healthy , raise money, join us at the beach in the morning and come to the party in the evening… and my thanks to all of the leadership who make this event possible and raise vital funds to save the lives of our mothers, our daughters, our sisters, and our friends,” said Biblowit.

BCRF also encourages community members to help fight breast cancer by creating their own fundraisers, or by purchasing a product from one of BCRF’s Shop Pink partners. “If one is interested in furthering research then the place to have your dollar grow where it would have the greatest impact, and you can have the assurance that it is going for the stated purpose, is the Breast Cancer Research Foundation,” said Biblowit.
