    Dear Lemurian Choristers,

SHEET MUSICFor those of you who read music, I created a number of music sheets to help

you with the preparation for, and the performance of the Lemurian Choir. These are all the levels where you can hear a melody.

Many of them have a free-flowing meter & rhythm. I have edited thesewithout time signatures or barlines. The lengths of the notes in these sheetsshould not be taken too literally, they are just an indication for notes beinglonger and shorter. These levels are: 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19 & 20.

According to convention, I have usually written only one vowel or syllable

where the melody continues on that same syllable. Where a vowel changeson one note, I have marked it with a tilde (swung dash) as in: EE~OU.

I have used simple looking tonalities to make the melodies easier to read. Ifyou practice with an instrument, you should be aware of this. Thetransposition is always specified in a footnote.

These sheets are meant to be used with the recording, to help and guide youin learning and remembering the melodies. Feel free to print them and bring

them to Maui if you feel that they may help you during the rehearsals andperformances.

A specific note about the sheet for level 12: The last 2 lines were too trickyto make a sensible lay-out, so I trust you will learn those by ear.

Thank you all for making the most of the preparation!Marc Drost.

VIDEOSI you like more specific information about the vocal techniques that we use in theLemurian Choir, you can view a number of videos. You can find them all on thisyoutube channel: http://www.youtube.com/MarcTheLemurian

On special request I made a video about breathing and breath support. There are

many long phrases and sustained notes in the Lemurian Tones. If you find thischallenging, this video may be helpful: http://youtu.be/AsO_uofWy40

Overtones or harmonics are very important in the Lemurian Tones. These cannoteasily be written down; hearing them is also a matter of focus, habit and training. For this purpose there are now 4 videos about overtone singing that you maywatch and practice with.1) intro: http://youtu.be/3mTVu9vrzyI 2) OM: http://youtu.be/r5qtgFeA-zQ3) EE- biRRd: http://youtu.be/RrxlLfwbC7E 4) OU: http://youtu.be/s_UgWMnPkMA

Will all the men check if they can reach the high notes in falsetto. This is a videoI made especially for this purpose. http://youtu.be/yJNor1QnmaI6 out of the 12 levels sung by the Gold Choir have these wonderful high notes. Ofcourse the men may also sing these notes an octave lower, but I hope that many ofyou will be able to sing them up in the high register. The women in the Gold Choirmay sing these high notes in the same octave as Dr Todd on the recording.

The most mysterious and also challenging sound we make, may well be theWhale Song, that throaty RRRR sound, that looks like this in the libretto: OOO. I

made this video to find and practice that special vocal effect:http://youtu.be/5wBErN3w1wcIf you find this sound too difficult to find or to produce, you may use the RRRmade with the tip of the tongue, like it is done in Spanish or Italian. for thispurpose I made another short video: http://youtu.be/_rSgIC3o59E

Furthermore there are 2 videos about specific levels and their challenges:level 17 - short & high: http://youtu.be/4rNQtZ3w0jclevel 22 - chanting on ZH: http://youtu.be/erF7xJhzl4k

The first, level 17 is about the challenge of singing such short notes at such a high

pitch, the second, level 22 is about the strange consonant that this level needs tobe vocalised on, and some details about the melody.

If you like them, you can keep an eye open for new videos to come. You cansubscribe to my youtube channel, even if you don't have a youtube account ofyour own!

THE PAIRED PRACTICE RECORDINGSHere are a few points of focus to help you as you practice with the recordings, inthe order of the libretto:

    pairs 1 - 1&4, 3 - 9&3 and 6 - 7&6, and levels 5, 10, 18, 14 and 16 are allabout overtones. You may watch the videos for information about vocal

techniques to enhance your overtones or harmonics.

A simple & practical way to keep count as you practice pair 2 - 2&8, is to useyour fingers to keep track of the countdown.

for level 11 and level 20, practice a clean start of the high pitch entrance.

pair 22-21 is not completely parallel in rhythm on the recording. Don't worryabout this, we will synchronize it as we chant together. On special request, there

is also a video about level 22.

at the end oflevel 6, try and see how far you get with the Whale sound at theend. You may also view the video for instructions.

the OY syllable in level 18 has some variations in how it is pronounced. Listenwell to the nuances and try to enhance the overtones.

level 14 was digitally transposed further up than other levels. Some of the vowelswere slightly altered in this process. The ANG in particular sounds like AEE. Please

stick to the vowels as written and as you practiced them before.

in pair 10 - 16&12 the Red and Gold Choir are often chanting around the samelow pitch. This may confuse you. However, when you hear the high pitches, thatwill always be the Gold Choir singing level 12. When you hear the low Whalesong, that will always be the Red Choir singing level 16. Do not worry, all this willbe thoroughly rehearsed and conducted.

pairs 8, 9 & 10 are in free-flowing rhythm, and the structure is one ofalternation. Don't worry about the exact timing of where each line comes in when

the levels are paired. The recording is only a guideline and this will all berehearsed and conducted.

level 17 is quite challenging because of the high range and the shortness of thenotes. If you find it too challenging, you may choose to practice other levels. A 3rdeasier layer of chanting may be added and there is a video with instructions for 17.
