FROM THE TOPWelcome to ourvisitorsWorkington is, without doubt, one of the strongholdsof Rugby League, sitting as it does amongst thevibrant Amateur scene on the Cumbrian coast. I remember a long journey home some years ago (1995) whenTown had defeated us by a huge margin (94-4) and I reallythought that they were on their way back to the top of thegame. Unfortunately, one season is Super League is all theyhave managed and the politics of the game seem to bemoving against them but I sincerely hope we can see SuperLeague rugby in Cumbria again soon.I have had a soft spot for Workington ever since I first spent aFriday night up there many years ago. We were looking atbuying a bar in the town centre and I was amazed at howlively and vibrant the town was, even at 2am on a wetFebruary morning! We bought the bar (Chasers – I wonder if itis still there?) and it went on to be a star in our portfolio, giving me many reasons to revisit Workington and thebeautiful countryside in which it sits. The point of my ramblealong Memory Lane is that I always enjoy our games up thereas it gives me another excuse to head North to have a walk inthe hills, take in the match and then grab some fish and chipson the way home (washed down with a pint of LancasterBomber!). For this reason if no other I wish the players, officials and fans of Town the best of luck for the rest of thisseason and beyond!

RESERVES TEAM GRAND FINALWhile our first team have rightly earned manyplaudits for their fantastic season, Paul Anderson’sReserves side have also enjoyed a marvellouscampaign. To cap it all they play in the Grand Final here at the LSV onFriday 5th September against Sheffield Eagles or FeatherstoneRovers. I sincerely hope that as many of our supporters aspossible can get along and give Ando’s team the backing theydeserve on what is sure to be a memorable evening.

STE O’DWYEROur great supporter Ste O’Dwyer had the honour offlying the Centurions flag in the pre-matchpresentation of all the competing clubs before theTetley’s Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium lastSaturday. Ste and his partner thoroughly enjoyed the day and it wasgreat to see Leigh represented in this way. I know Ste hasbeen looking forward to today’s game with great anticipation

and despite all the excitement of Wembley I think he willappreciate today’s special occasion even more.

PLANNING FOR 2015...Now that we have secured top spot in the Kingstone PressChampionship table we can get on with our plans for thecoming season. Without tempting fate we had been workingbehind the scenes for some months on the logistics neededfor a full time playing environment including increasing ourcoaching roster from two to four, appointing full-time physio, conditioning and welfare teams and sorting out the facilitieswhich Paul and his assistants need to get the squad to thehighest possible level. We are fortunate that, in the LSV, we have a state-of-the-artfacility which allows us to offer an environment equal to anyin the game and I am glad that it is now starting to feel likeour home – thanks to the LSV management for all their helpin this but most of all thanks to our supporters who havestamped their personality on our Stadium.

LEYTHER TILL I DIE...Today is the official Heritage Game for LeighCenturions and I am sure it will be a fantasticday. I would like to thank a couple of very special people who havemade today possible with the hard work they have done overrecent months (and years in one case!).Firstly, my never ending gratitude goes to Mike Latham whohas laboured for 30+ years to complete the list of every playerto wear the Leigh RL shirt – including before the 1895breakaway. Mike is an unassuming character who goes abouthis work in a quiet, professional manner and is uncomfortablewith plaudits but, for once, I hope he can relish how much hehas moved so many people with what he has produced.Secondly, Jason Donohue has done a remarkable job inresurrecting the Leigh Centurions Players Association andbringing so many past players of the Club back into the fold. The pride felt by the current players and staff when so manyformer giants of the club are in attendance on match-days isimmense and it is testament to Jason’s persuasive skills (not“mithering!...) that the CPA has come so far so quickly. As Jason commented recently, billions of people have walkedthis planet but only 1,392 have had the opportunity to donthe Cherry and White of Leyth! And now they all have theirown, unique Heritage Number to prove it.Best wishesMikeMike Norris, Chairman

COACH’SCORNER

PAUL ROWLEYTALKS TO DAVEPARKINSON

Re: Featherstone game and winning the League LeadersShield. DP: Big congratulations Paul on another fine performancefrom the boys, sum it up for us?PR: I was nervous for a couple of days. There was a lot of buzz in thetown, a lot of talk and everyone has been really looking forward tothis one – none more so than the boys. It was a really easy week intraining. The focus and determination was clear. I’m proud. Theplayers got what they deserved. They have worked hard.DP: Martyn Ridyard was one of a number of players thatstood out?PR: Yeah Riddy is showing some class at the moment isn’t he? TomArmstrong was outstanding and I thought Sam Hopkins wasimmense!DP: You’ve talked in the past about creating history at theSports Village and you’ve done that now?PR: Yeah, when you have a career and you have a team, you makememories along the way and certainly this year has provided us withsome very happy ones. We’ll look back fondly and very satisfied thatwe’ve had a good year’s work, but let’s get it cranked up, let’s getthese players to be the role models they are meant to be. I want mychildren to grow up like some of these. I want my kids to be RyanBrierley, not because of what he does on the field but because of thegentleman he is. I can’t speak highly enough of these boys. They aregood men.Re: Swinton Game.DP: Paul that was another handsome victory and thatsecond half was a sight to behold wasn’t it?PR: We scored some good tries when we put some sets together andwe started running with a bit more conviction. I thought in the firsthalf we played really soft. We were doing enough, but it’s not aboutdoing enough is it? It’s about playing to the standards that we’ve set.We challenged the boys at half-time and I think it was perfectly clearafter the first five minutes [of the second half] that we’d addedanother twenty percent to what we were doing. We were running alot harder and tackling with more conviction and you then get therewards like we did in that second half.DP: And with the amount of ball that Swinton put down inthat first half you must have been disappointed to only lead16-0 at half-time?PR: Definitely, but it’s not about the score. It’s about the performance. It was always going to be a challenge on the back of some prettyheavy celebrations to be fair. It was slightly quiet in the dressing roombut like I said we were getting through it. We could have got throughit and won thirty points to whatever but I’m glad that we raised thebar. You are right about Swinton putting the ball down though, itgave us a lot of possession and territory. They definitely made it easierfor us in that respect.

DP: It was a rugby league rarity too, the full backlinescoring tries?PR: I wasn’t aware of that until you mentioned Dave but it just showswe are playing good rugby, we are pushing hard and helping eachother out. We’ve got some skilful players in that backline and I don’tthink there is anyone in the club that has not crossed the whitewashafter Anthony Bate’s try.DP: It was an improvement from Easter when against thesame opposition it was 60-24 wasn’t it?PR: Games like this make me nervous because we are supposed towin them but I watched Swinton and they play some good rugby. They ask a lot of questions with the ball in hand. Luckily for us theydidn’t keep the ball in hand.Yet again, like in that game at Easter, they have a stand-out player inKevin Penny. He was again outstanding and must have preventedanother four tries.DP: You had Michael Platt coming out from under wraps, how did you think he went?PR: I thought he had a real solid debut. He had some good touchesand looked quite dangerous. He is physically big and he dealt withMick Nanyn. He won his battle on his edge and fitted in really well.DP: The victory though tempered by the injury to Tom there?PR: It was bad news, but that can be the way it goes in rugby. Thisgame and last time out he did good minutes and was finding his formready for the run in.DP: This game today marks a continuation into the launch ofthe club heritage numbers, what do you make of things so far?PR: The Past Players dinner the other day was a real privilege to beinvolved in and to share a room with so many other players fromdifferent eras, no matter how many games they played or how wellthey were considered was great. We all had a common theme andthere was a real sense of belonging in that room. Our past playershave been so supportive all year.We have a proud history and a proud present and both have cometogether, the past players appreciate everything the current playersare doing and likewise the current players are so respectful andseeking approval of the past players. Anybody not involved that hasplayed for the club needs to jump onboard. Big thanks to JasonDonohue for being proactive and galvanising the past players, andalso monumental thanks to Mike Latham. You know, we sat in a room of Leigh legends and past players and Ican tell you now that the person everyone looked up to was MikeLatham. He was the true legend in the room for the amount of workthat he has done with the heritage numbers and history of Leigh. Wehave the greatest respect and gratitude, none more so than myself forthe history and pride he has given to a lot of past players. We have got the number one player in that league in MikeLatham, that’s for sure!

Since our last issue of The Centurion, Leigh have won theLeague Leaders Shield, vanquished Swinton Lions and aretoday celebrating their heritage. Dave Parkinson caught upwith Centurions boss Paul Rowley to get his thoughts.

ML- First of all, Oli, your thoughts on theSwinton game?OW - It was a complete performance in thesecond half after a bit of a slow start in the first. We didn’t show the same intensity as we didagainst Featherstone but it was a different typeof opponent. Rowls had a few words in a fewear holes at half-time and we came out firing.ML- And a good debut for Michael Platt?OW - Definitely. He’s got good pedigree, had alot of good coaches and has been at some goodclubs. He showed his experience and ability inabundance.ML- Does the addition of Michael andJonny Walker to the squad give you freshimpetus at this stage of the season?OW - They’re both good players but I’m not sureabout impetus being the right word. Everyone inthe squad is hungry and every player ischomping at the bit to play. Who would want tobe Rowls in this situation? There are about tenprops for instance competing for four spots. Iwouldn’t like to be in his shoes.

ML- In that situation man managementfrom a Coach is all important isn’t it?OW - The thing about Paul is that he is honest. When a Coach is honest there is nothing more aplayer can ask. Paul picks players onperformances or experience, depending on whathe deems to be the most important factor forthe particular game. His man management skillsare excellent.ML- Every player wants to play in everygame but is the Heritage Game extraspecial?OW - Without a shadow of a doubt. All gamesare very important for the club and individualsand you want to perform on a big stage. TheHeritage project is fantastic and all the players

have bought into it.ML- Did you enjoy your history lesson atthe Heritage Shirt launch?OW - The video that Fred Parkinson put togetherwas very interesting and brilliantly put together. It was an emotional evening, especially hearingabout the players who lost their lives duringWorld War One. I think all the players weretouched by that. Learning about players who went to war andnever came back makes you realise the sacrificesour predecessors made for the freedom weenjoy today. It was moving to hear of familiesreceiving a telegram to say their loved one, adevoted father and family man had been blownup in the trenches.ML- And every player this afternoon willbe wearing their own Heritage shirt withthe number unique to them.OW - That’s fantastic. The shirt and strip we areplaying in looks superb. It’s a little bit of history, one we’re all going to enjoy and savour. I’mhoping I’ll be able to keep my shirt and intendto get it framed.ML- You must be gutted to learn of TomSpencer’s injury?OW - Yes, it’s a great shame and Spenner facesa long time out and a long rehab. I feel for him,he’s come back into the side for the last twogames after a bit of a rest really firing and hasdone everything that Paul asked of him. He’sbeen outstanding. He’s worked really hard. It

just shows what a cruel game Rugby Leaguecan be. But he’ll deal with it, he’s a strongcharacter and he’ll come back even stronger.ML- On to the Workington game. They’vebeen going well recently.OW - They put in a strong second half againstus at Derwent Park and they’ve really built onthat performance. A lot of their games seem todepend on which dual-reg players they haveavailable but they’ve done really well. I’ve beencoached by Phil Veivers before and he certainlyknows what he’s talking about. We will have tobe on the top of our game to get a result.ML- And the last word?OW - That definitely goes to Kes (Ryan Brierley)on the birth of his baby girl. Congratulationsfrom everyone at the club to him and hispartner.

HISTORY LESSON

In his latest Centurions Chat MarkTaylor, Leigh Centurions Rugby LeagueCorrespondent of the Leigh Reporterand Wigan Evening Post looks back onthe Heritage Shirt Launch.

LEIGH'S heroes of today got a history lesson when theyattended a special event at the Sports Village to launch theclub's heritage kit.The likes of Liam Kay, Ryan Brierley and Martyn Ridyard watched archivefootage of Leigh legends including John Woods, Des Drummond andJimmy Ledgard before receiving their heritage shirt which will be wornagainst Workington Town this afternoon. It was the second of three major events which have been organised tomark the publication of the club's heritage numbers. The first was asold-out dinner two weeks ago where many past players received amemento inscribed with their heritage number. The final celebration willbe at this afternoon’s eagerly awaited game.Several teams have allocated heritage numbers to their players in recentyears including Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors. They have alsobeen adopted by other sports such as cricket and football.By going back through the record books, a player is allocated a numberunique to them which represents the order in which they made theirdebut for the club. After years of painstaking and exhaustive research, Leigh fan andauthor Mike Latham has been able to publish the numbers in a speciallimited edition brochure which is on sale now, priced £5. The bookletalso includes Founders Numbers as a tribute to the Leigh players whoplayed in the Club’s rugby union days from 1878 to 1895.Players from the current Leigh squad were presented with their heritageshirt by head of rugby Derek Beaumont and coach Paul Rowley. A filmproduced by Fred Parkinson from Leigh Centurions TV was also shownand Latham gave a talk on some of the extensive research he carriedout to complete the project.Centurions will wear a special edition cherry and white hooped shirtand dark blue shorts and socks for the game against Workington - athrowback to the design of a much earlier age. There will be nosponsors on the shirt and each one features the heritage number of theplayer wearing it under the town coat of arms.A small number of the shirts are available to buy from the club's retailunit in Leigh Market.Latham learnt something new on the evening when prop Jake Emmitt(#1332) revealed that Welsh winger Lionel Emmitt (#683) was hisgrandfather. Bridgend born Lionel joined Leigh from Blackpool Boroughin March 1959 having earlier played for Oldham and scored seven triesin 14 games for the club. Delving through his record books, Latham discovered that while withBlackpool Lionel made two appearances for Wales scoring one try. Amining engineer by profession, he later worked in Africa and Australia.Emmitt was a prolific try-scorer, scoring 21 tries in 36 games forOldham and 78 tries in 167 games for Borough.

Jake Emmitt receives his Heritage Shirt from Head of Rugby DerekBeaumont and Head Coach Paul Rowley.

Continuing our series looking at Leigh players who PASSEDAWAY DURING THE War, this week we remember RALPH MAKIN.

WE SHALLREMEMBER THEMA NEW SERIES By MIKE LATHAM

One member of the list only cameto light recently when I wasrandomly searching for details ofLeigh on the British NewspaperArchive. During the First World War,Leigh played friendly matches aftercompetitive football wassuspended after the 1914-15season. They played just one gameagainst Yorkshire opposition whenthey visited Headingley to playLeeds in February 1917. TheYorkshire Post preview of thegame list the Leigh players to have

lost their lives during the conflict and included in the listwas Gunner Ralph Makin.Further research revealed that Ralph Makin was a native ofPlank Lane who worked as a collier. He had trials with Leighin 1910 and played in the A Team. When the war started hejoined the Army despite being in a reserved occupation inthe mines. He was in the Royal Garrison Artillery alongsidePaddy O’Neill. He was yet another casualty of the horrificBattle of the Somme which claimed so many lives. What makes the situation even more poignant was thatfamilies back home often learnt news of their loved one’sdeath by hearsay or by letters sent by other serving soldiersbefore they received official confirmation from the Army. This appears to have been the case with Ralph Makin. TheLeigh Journal of July 1916 had news of his tragic death. Itreported as follows:“In a letter to his wife Gunner T Cupitt states that GunnerRalph Makin of the RGA, whose home is at Howard Street,Plank Lane, was killed on July 12th about 11-30. All his pals,he says, mourn his loss for he was a good gunner. Makin, who was a married man, 23-years-of-age, left his work atPlank Lane Collieries to join the Army in October 1914 andhad been in France 12 months. He had a trial with Leigh as aforward almost six years ago and has a brother in law,Sapper Clifford MacDonald with the Royal Engineers.”The letter states his date of death as the 12th but theCommonwealth War Graves Commission has the 13th.

Makin was buried at Peronne Road Cemetery, Maricourt,10km from Albert. Maricourt is a village on the Albert-Peronne Road and was at the beginning of the Battles ofthe Somme in 1916, the point of junction of the British andFrench forces, and within a very short distance of the frontline. A total of thirteen Leigh players are known to have died inWorld War One. Of the list below, Harry Bilsbury, ErnestDoorey, Ralph Makin, Benjamin Sumner and Harry Wardplayed for the Club in A team fixtures or first-team friendlyfixtures but not in an official first-team game and do nottherefore have Heritage Numbers.

With thanks to Leighlife.com and John Taylor for their tremendous assistance in researching these articles.

Throughout the season in the Centurion we have been remembering the players connected to the Leigh Clubwho gave their lives serving their country in World War One which started one hundred years ago. There isalso a documentary on this subject on Leigh Centurions TV.

LISA is an acronym for Leigh Independent Supporters Association, and as the name suggests is an Independent Supporters Groupfor the Leigh Centurions. LISA has been in existence for over 10years, with the main goal of helping to finance new players to theclub which is mainly achieved by members’ contributions.Through generous contributions by LISA members and support by Leigh fansin general we have managed to help the club bring in players who wouldhave not normally been signed. Below is the LISA Roll of Honour for the listof players the club have signed over the years with the help of LISA.Jamie Kennedy, Graeme Close and Ken Kerr (1999), Adam Bristow (2000),Neil Turley (2001), Vila Matautia (2002), Sonny Nickle and Tommy Martyn(2003), Tommy Martyn (2004), Academy players (2005 and 2006), DaveMcConnell (2007), Dennis Moran (2008), Stuart Donlan (2009 and 2010),Anthony Nicholson and Dean McGilvray (2011), James Taylor, Ryan Brierley,Rob Parker and Sam Hopkins (2012), Martin Aspinwall and Ryan Brierley(2013).For the 2014 season LISA are proudly sponsoring Tom Spencer. These players are part of our Heritage and on this special day I want tothank all of you fans who made their signings possible and those of futureLISA players. The more members we have enables us Leigh fans to help make our greatclub the best it can be. It’s no coincidence that Leigh have been one of themost successful teams outside of Super League since LISA was formed.

LISA look to increaseMembership NumbersWith all aspects of the Club, on and off the pitch, going fromstrength to strength there is a temptation for people to rest ontheir laurels. But the reality is that a bigger membership will help

the Club to reach the next level as it pushes towards realising itsambition of a place in Super League. As a committee we are currently in discussions with the Club to identifyways of adding value to existing and new members. It is our goal to drivethe organisation forward as in recent years we have sadly lost some of ourolder members.I'm working with Club Director Andy Mazey in relation to forthcomingevents where we intend to have a presence and actively campaign for newmembers. If you are a supporter and not currently a LISA Member please considerjoining, as your contributions really do make a difference and go directlytowards the playing budget. This means you contribute where it mattersmost from a fans' perspective. Remember as well as other benefits LISAmembers get extra discount on away coach travel. On behalf of Leigh Centurions Director Andy Mazey said: "As a Board werecognise the importance of this fantastic organisation, not just historicallybut even more so moving forward as part of the long-term strategicplanning."The vision and ethos of everyone associated with this Club is no longer justto consolidate, but to grow every aspect of the Club to be the very best itcan be."It's great to see Lynda, Keith and the rest of the great people at LISA notjust buying into the Club's ethos but looking to take the bull by the hornsand drive the organisation forward."In simple terms the more members LISA can attract the more financeavailable to the Club. Funds raised go directly into the playing budget for2015 and beyond when we will be a full-time professional club with highhopes and aspirations."For details of how to join go to www.leigh-isa.org.ukRemember that after a recent meeting with the BOM it has been agreedthat as an incentive to gain more members and raise more funds, for every£6,000 over and above the usual annual figure LISA can raise, the Boardwill match the funding with £6,000 and promote an already part-timecontracted Under20s player of LISA’s choice to the full-time first-teamenvironment and squad. Existing members who increase their contributionwill also count towards the extra money raised.Paul Rowley and Derek Beaumont will put forward the list of candidateswho they would like to bring in to the first- team full-time squad and inconfidence give the reasons why, so LISA members, subject to the fundsbeing raised, can play a vital role in the promotion and further developmentof the club’s young players in addition to what they already do.

IN TOWN TODAYWORKINGTONTOWN

www.leighlife.com THE CENTURION 17

Brett Carter Brett Phillips Carl Forber Jason Mossop

Workington Townvisit the LSV this

afternoon on the topof their form; a superbrun of eight winsfrom their last ninegames has secured atop nine finish andwith it a place in nextseason’s KingstonePress Championship. There is a fair argument for putting forwardHead Coach Phil Veivers for ChampionshipCoach of the Year (behind our own PaulRowley of course!).

Veivers has worked wonders at DerwentPark and fashioned a side that has achievedsome remarkable results in recent weeks asthey put together a seven-match winningrun. In that sequence Town won five ofthose games by a margin of six points orless, including a nail-biting 20-18 derbysuccess over neighbours Whitehaven.

"There was a lot riding on the game and wewere grateful to be on the right side of thewin," said Veivers after the derby game."Earlier this season the players didn’t knowhow to win – in tight games we couldn’t getover the finish line.

"But the turning point for us was the homegame with Featherstone. I had myconditioner on the wing, Keiran McAvoyback in the side straight from university andKayle Connor on the bench but unable toplay, just to make up the 17."

When Veivers took over at Derwent Park in

early March he seemingly faced an uphillbattle to preserve Town’s hard-wonChampionship status. Previous coach GaryCharlton, who had worked in tandem withMartin Oglanby for a time left after fiveyears in the hot seat saying he had takenTown as far as he could. Charlton hadworked wonders during his time in charge, lifting up the club from the lowest reachesof the professional game.

Veivers inherited a squad that lookeddecidedly short of depth and set aboutboosting numbers immediately. It is a policyhe has been trying ever since, with mixedresults, though the availability of severaldual registration players from WiganWarriors, including Lewis Tierney, JackMurphy, Connor Farrell and Greg Burke hasproved fruitful.

But the uncertainty on a week by week basisover the dual-reg players, plus the lack of aplay-maker has left Veivers working mostlywith the squad he inherited. Since earningkey early season wins over Swinton andBarrow, Town then lost nine out of their nexteleven games, often by small margins beforeturning that around in mid-summer. It is ameasure of Town’s fighting qualities thatthey have picked up nine bonus points fromtheir 12 defeats.

In retrospect Town’s battling performance toearn a well deserved bonus point againstthe Centurions at Derwent Park has beenthe catalyst for the revival. Town playedsuperbly in that second half and gaveRowley’s side one of their hardest games ofthe season with Jarrad Stack and BrettPhillips especially impressive.

Veivers stressed the need for patience, arguing that results would come on the backof the improved performances. He has beenborne out and with Phillips, Stack, LiamMcAvoy, Peter Lupton and centre JasonMossop all showing consistent form Townhave emerged as one of the success storiesin what has proved to be a dramaticChampionship season.

Veivers first came into the British game withSt Helens in 1984 as an appendage to thedeal which brought the great Mal Meningato Knowsley Road. Although Meninga madea never-to-be-forgotten impact in his oneseason at Knowsley Road, it was Veiverswho had the lasting impact.

He went onto make nearly 400 appearancesfor Saints becoming one of their best everoverseas players. Veivers, who recentlypassed 50, then finished his playing careerat Huddersfield before embarking on acoaching career. Shown the door by Salfordjust five games into the 2013 season he hasbounced back in fine style at WorkingtonTown and has taken the opportunity withboth hands.

Town’s last game, a 32-18 home win overBarrow Raiders was by all accounts ascrappy game but the priceless three pointssecured Town’s status and must have beenone of the most satisfying of Veivers’illustrious career. Former Centurions halfbackCarl Forber was outstanding, capping his all-round display with two tries and four goals.Forber, who made his Leigh debut in 2005 is#1251 and will especially enjoy thisafternoon’s special atmosphere.

LCT looking back and celebratingwith Leigh Centurions With this being

the Club’sHeritage Matchday, the programmecontent that comesto mind for our pageis our PIT 2 PITCHprogramme. This programme started in 2011 andemanated from the club moving fromHilton Park, our home of 61 years to ournew home at Leigh Sports Village andthe subsequent demolition of theground which sparked interest inmemories of by-gone years.

The project has been funded by theLocal Heritage Fund and aims topreserve and share first-hand stories ofthe life and times of the town of Leigh’sheritage, centred around the rugbyleague club, a focal part of the localcommunity over the past 100 years andmore. It’s a two-tier project aiming toconserve the oral history of theprofessional rugby league club and thetown through a virtual museum of fans, players and the wider community’smemories centred around the club’shistory, including a virtual hall of fame

and a virtual timeline, all of which canbe accessed on the websitewww.pit2pitch.co.uk.The second part of the programme is oureducational sphere to the project opento the Primary school children of Leighdelivered both in school and at thestadium, focusing on specific importanteras to the club and town from the1940s, 1970s and today. Using thevirtual museum and the timeline boardsunder the North Stand we look at theplayers’ work, family life, leisureactivities and playing life culminating ina role play of each era.

“I had so much fun learning all aboutwhat life was like a long time ago. Myfavourite bit of the day was dressing upas a 1970s player’s wife and seeing allthe old photos showing us that wherethere are now shops there used to be apit and the big road through Leigh usedto be railway tracks.” - Y6 Bedford HallMethodist pupil.
