DANGER If the product is used with accessories, for example on masts, staffs, poles, you may increase the risk of being struck by lightning. Danger from high voltages also exists near power lines. Lightning, voltage peaks, or the touching of power lines can cause damage, injury and death.Precautions:• Do not use the product in a thunderstorm as you can increase the risk of being

struck by lightning.• Be sure to remain at a safe distance from electrical installations. Do not use the

product directly under or close to power lines. If it is essential to work in such an environment contact the safety authorities responsible for electrical installations and follow their instructions.

• If the product has to be permanently mounted in an exposed location, it is advis-able to provide a lightning conductor system. A suggestion on how to design a lightning conductor for the product is given below. Always follow the regulations in force in your country regarding grounding antennas and masts. These instal-lations must be carried out by an authorised specialist.

• To prevent damages due to indirect lightning strikes (voltage spikes) cables, for example for antenna, power source or modem should be protected with appro-priate protection elements, like a lightning arrester. These installations must be carried out by an authorised specialist.

Page 15: Leica MJB1305 Junction Box User Manual

MJB1305 Junction Box, Safety Directions 15

• If there is a risk of a thunderstorm, or if the equipment is to remain unused and unattended for a long period, protect your product additionally by unplugging all systems components and disconnecting all connecting cables and supply cables, for example, instrument - antenna.

1.6 Electromagnetic Compatibility EMC

Description The term Electromagnetic Compatibility is taken to mean the capability of the product to function smoothly in an environment where electromagnetic radiation and elec-trostatic discharges are present, and without causing electromagnetic disturbances to other equipment.

WARNING Electromagnetic radiation can cause disturbances in other equipment.

Although the product meets the strict regulations and standards which are in force in this respect, Leica Geosystems cannot completely exclude the possibility that other equipment may be disturbed.

CAUTION There is a risk that disturbances may be caused in other equipment if the product is used with accessories from other manufacturers, for example field computers, personal computers, two-way radios, non-standard cables or external batteries.Precautions:Use only the equipment and accessories recommended by Leica. When combined with the product, they meet the strict requirements stipulated by the guidelines and standards. When using computers and two-way radios, pay attention to the informa-tion about electromagnetic compatibility provided by the manufacturer.

2 Product Overview

General The MJB1305 Junction Box provides the possibility to connect several different connector types to connect different CANBUS-based machines to the Leica PaveSmart 3D system and components.

Power supply The MJB1305 Junction Box can be connected from every connector using the correct pin-outs in a range from 9V-36V, max 6Amp.

22MJB1305 Junction Box, Product Overview

The LED turns on GREEN when power is supplied to any of the connectors, apart from the CAN no PWR connector. Do not supply power to the MJB1305 from different power sources at the same time. It causes serious problems, like overpowering connected components, which cause damage.

WARNING This product must be installed on building and construction machinery only by an appropriately trained and qualified specialist.

WARNING Unauthorised modification of machines by mounting the product may alter the func-tion and safety of the machine.Precautions:Connect to the machine using the appropriate cable only. Connect the MJB1305 only to the machine cable first and verify the power LED is green before connecting any other device to the MJB1305.

Page 23: Leica MJB1305 Junction Box User Manual

MJB1305 Junction Box, Connector Concept 23

3 Connector Concept

General All connectors are wired directly to each other without any kind of protection. Therefor the system should not be connected to two different power sources.

WARNING Connection two different power sources to the system might cause damage to other attached devices or machines.

CAUTION Unused connectors must be protected using the attached dust cap.

3.1 Connectors

CIA connector The CAN in Automation (CIA) connector enables the connection of devices using the M12/5pin connector with the CIA pinout standards. Like external CANBUS loggers or CANBUS to Wi-Fi devices.

Page 24: Leica MJB1305 Junction Box User Manual

24MJB1305 Junction Box, Connector Concept

Terminator The terminator supplied is a 120 Ohm resistor and should be connected on the end of the network to prevent an RF signal from being reflected back from the end, causing interference. The overall CANBUS network should not go below the 60 Ohm resistance. The terminator is using the CIA pinout standard and should be connected to this port only. Connecting to other port causes damage to the terminator.

WARNING ALWAYS disconnect the MJB1305 power and/or CAN-cable to the machine before conducting hot work/welding on the machine! Reconnect the cabling only after completion of hot work/welding.

CAN no PWR For devices which must connect to the systems CANBUS with their own power supply. They can connect by the CAN no PWR connector on the MJB1305.For example:A Leica iCG82 GNSS receiver has its own power supply and must to be connected to the CANBUS network. This avoids two different power sources to supply power to the system.

CIA, Resistor To connect to devices using the CIA pinout only.To connect the supplied resistor.

The supplied resistor should not be connected to any other connector on the MJB1305 other then the one labelled: CIA / Resistor. Connection the resistor to any other connector causes damage to any attached device

G&Z, Gomaco, Power Paver To connect to CANBUS based machines from the labelled manufactures only: Guntert & Zimmermann, Gomaco, Power Paver

Panel To connect the MPC1310 to the system.

Alarm box, Slope To connect the MOBA Alarm box to the system.

4 Operation

Before connecting Before connecting any device, connect the source power cable to MJB1305. If the Power LED of MJB1305 is green the power supply is okay.

There are no electronics inside the MJB1305, apart from the Power LED controller.

Operating princi-ples

• On 12 V machine, use the cable: MSC1201 Straight Cable, 7S/7P, CAN, 3m. The use of this cable avoids a powerdrop.

• Devices which are using a high amount of amps should be powered by a different power source. Connect the CANBUS of these devices by the CAN no PWR connector.

• Use the CAN no PWR connector, if a connected device has an own power supply. It avoids a double power IN into the system.

• The supplied resistor is using the CIA pinout. Do not connect it to any other M12 connector.

• The CIA (CAN in Automation) pinout is different from the other M12 CAN connector pinouts.

• The MOBA, PC, Wirtgen pinout is the same like the Panel, Alarm box, Slope connector pinout.
