Asbestos is an extremely emotive and dangerous

carcinogen. Over 5,000 people in the UK die every

year as a result of diseases caused by exposure to

asbestos. The sad fact is that many of these deaths

are a direct result of lack of awareness of the risks

and lack of protection against its deadly effects.

Asbestos was widely used in building materials due to its

excellent fire and electrical insulation and waterproofing

properties. However, all types of asbestos were finally

banned in 1999 due to their extreme danger to health.

Exposure to asbestos is primarily caused through

inhalation of unsealed fibres, which can lead to diseases

such as Asbestosis, Lung Cancer or Mesothelioma.

The common misconception is that asbestos is a problem

from the past, only used in the post-war building boom in

non-domestic properties and that it has all long since been

removed. That couldn’t be further from the truth!

The asbestos industry is the second-most regulated industry

in the UK (after the nuclear industry) and rightly so, with

asbestos-related lung disease being the single biggest cause

of work-related deaths in the UK. Around 3,000 products

were formerly manufactured containing asbestos fibres and it

was only finally banned in 1999, so it is routinely discovered

during building maintenance and renovations.

Asbestos removal is a highly technical process and should

only be carried out by a licensed professional to ensure that

it is legally and safely removed.

It is important to choose a suitably qualified, licensed

groundwater, as well as site analysis and clearance. This

and equipment which means we can undertake any

decontamination project, regardless of size and complexity.

In addition, our laboratory analysts can identify the exact

contaminants present within the soil or groundwater, meaning

you don’t need to pay for the disposal of contaminants

you remain compliant with HSE legislation, while ensuring
