On behalf of all LTG volunteers, donors, sponsors, non-profi t benefi ciary and supporting organizations and individuals, welcome to our inaugural “Giving Through Fashion Gala - 2008”.Your vision, acceptance and support have honored LTG and confi rmed the new concept for which it stands. Simple yet effective, LTG founded by Michael Chan & Macy Mak Chan of MM Foundation and a group of community volunteers, provides novel opportunities for multiple of participating non-profi t organizations with limited resources to raise funds without the fi nancial liability and with minimal administrative tasks. For this fi rst year, LTG is very proud to be able to reach out to these non-profi t 501 c3 organizations: Bay Area Asian Sports Dragons, Cantonese Opera Association Silicon Valley, Divine Mercy Eucharistic Society, Lion Club International SightFirst II Campaign, MM Foundation, Presidio Knolls School, S.F. Hep B Free Campaign: Asian Liver Center. LTG is accepting applications for next year’s fundraising Gala to be held at this same Hyatt Regency Hotel on this tentative date of April 10, 2009. Please spread the word to the non-profi t organizations of your choice - large or small, new or old. LTG realizes the need for value added programs for your donations and have put together a great evening of entertaining for you. This Gala may be the most comprehensive fundraiser program of recent times. It starts with an organizational mixers, VIP reception, photo session, candle light and music dinner, auction, raffl e drawing, entertainment, fashion show by 4 designers, professional models and beauty queens and fi nish with dancing to a live band. LTG aims to provide a great return for your donation - ROD. Yet, LTG needs your input and your participation for 2009. Allow us to extend to you an open invitation to join LTG in one of the following areas: Gala theme, event planning, fundraising strategies and approaches, talent, show directors, production, entertainment, raffl e donation, silent and open auction prize donation, decoration, grant writing, publicity, marketing, website and affi liate support, staff food, graphic design and layout, program book advertisement, video production and support, photography, media support, various event cost sponsorships, security, etc. A comprehensive list of volunteers and “job listing - pay with heart dollars” will be posted on the LTG website for your consideration. Finally, please allow LTG to ask all of us to examine how we can do our part to live a life with purpose and happiness; and leave a “Legacy Through Giving”. Please visit LTG at: www.LegacyThroughGiving.org for more details, or email us at: [email protected], or call VM at: 408.414.0844. Thanks for coming to support this new concept, “Legacy Through Giving” Sit Back and Enjoy and See You Next Year.

Office of the Mayor Gavin NewsomCity & County of San Francisco

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the City and County of San Francisco, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Legacy Through Giving first annual “Giving Through Fashion Gala 2008” on March 22, 2008, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Burlingame.

I am also pleased to recognize and acknowledge Michael W. Chan and Macy Mak Chan of the MM Foundation for coordinating this wonderful event that benefits community groups with limited resources.

Because of your hard work and dedication, many smaller organizations will benefit through your efforts. You have created an important forum for many deserving nonprofits to become beneficiaries, including the Bay Area Asian Sports Dragons, which will use the funds to build a basketball court for kids improving the health of our children and develop teamwork and leadership skills; the Lions Club Campaign SightFirst II, which fights to prevent blindness worldwide; the AsianWeek Foundation; and the San Francisco Hep B Free Campaign, a campaign to make San Francisco the first hepatitis B-free city in the nation.

I congratulate you all for all that you have done. Your exemplary commitment to the community is what makes this City so great.

With warmest regards,

Gavin Newsom Mayor

DESIGNERS

Monique Zhang is the designer of the well-known San Francisco fashion establishment, Cicada. Born and educated in Taiwan, Zhang moved to America at age 21 to work in the fashion industry, and launched Cicada in 1998. She honed her craft under styling legend Sandra Sakata and named her business after Sakata, taking the humble Cicada as the symbol of rebirth and “the wisdom of emerging elegance.” Zhang’s designs combine Sakata’s tradition of “exotic glamour” with the uniqueness of the individual personality.

Inspired by ancient cultures and by her experience with textiles from around the world, Zhang’s one-of-a-kind pieces reflect the inner being of the wearer for whom they are designed. (www.moniquezhang.com)

As a young girl Carol always wanted to become a fashion designer, but it wasn't until after her studies at Columbia University and Stanford GSB that she finally decided to pursue her childhood dream. Upon graduating magna cum laude from FIDM with a degree in fashion design, her passion to make beautiful, unique clothing has led her to establish herself as an

award-winning fashion designer. Her accomplishments include being featured at the de Young Museum, winning a design competition hosted by Project Runway's Tim Gunn, being selected to showcase as an "Emerging Star" at SF Fashion Week, and creating the dress that captured "Best Evening Gown" at the Miss California USA Pageant. (www.carolchencouture.com)

Dcepcion is a street-wear inspired label, established by twins Daniel and David Concepcion, that was created to provide refined, yet creative, ready-to-wear. Their debut collection, “Street Society” pulls inspiration from early 90’s comic books, utilizing graphic elements and a neutral color palette, as well as details from the 1930’s and 1940’s. This debut collection consists of casual and versatile pieces that can be worn from day to evening and has been featured on the front page of the

SF Chronical’s Style section. (www.dcepcion.com)

OdileOdette is a San Francisco-based fashion design company created by Nichole Kreglow and Stephanie Bodnar. This dynamic duo met while attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and recognized in one another a keen eye for detail and love of fine construction. Since then, their gowns have been on display at the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, The FIDM campus in San Francisco, the FIDM campus in Los Angeles, and a charity fashion show entitled Project FiveFour07 in the Bay

Area. Combining Stephanie's background in writing and costume design and Nichole's background in furniture and product design, the two create clothing with an unique sensibility and dichotomy of style that is unmatched elsewhere. The name OdileOdette derives from the two swans in Tchaikovsky's ballet "Swan Lake". OdileOdette is yin and yang. OdileOdette embodies the mischievousness and edginess of Odile juxtaposed against the virtue and romance of Odette. OdileOdette's garments reflect the many contradictions of a woman.
