LPE Administrative Team

We would first like to introduce you to the passionate educators that make up the LPE Administrative Team.

Kristin Drury is thrilled to be returning to Legacy Point as a Principal. She has 26 years experience in Douglas County taking on various roles such as a classroom teacher, Instructional Coach, District Professional Development Coordinator, and a high school Assistant Principal. She helped open Legacy Point in 2003 as the Building Resource Teacher, and is looking forward to returning to a place about which she is passionate. She holds a B.A. in Behavioral Science with a minor in Reading, M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Colorado and an endorsement in Educational Leadership. Additionally, she is a trainer for 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Emergenetics, Cognitive Coaching, Adaptive Schools, and Crucial Conversations. Kristin has two DCSD graduates in college and has been a Parker resident for 18 years. She is eager to get to know the students and families of Legacy Point Elementary. Her vision is to ensure LPE is a family centered place that is safe, collaborative, focuses on instructional excellence and instills habits of effectiveness in students.

Amy Corr couldn’t be happier to be back for her third year as LPE’s Assistant Principal. This year, in addition to serving as the LPE 504 Coordinator, she will be serving as the READ Act Coordinator as well as the Gifted/Talented Coordinator. She has been in education since 1996, working in both elementary and middle school classrooms, working as a Douglas County School District Curriculum and Instructional Coordinator, as well as serving as the LPE Assistant Principal for the past two school years. She holds a B.A. in Elementary Education, a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in the creative arts, and an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. She has two children, a 7th grader at Cresthill Middle School and a 4th grader at Eagle Ridge Elementary which is another Leader in Me school!

Her husband, Kelly, is a Dean of Students at Highlands Ranch High School, so they are a DCSD family through and through! In her spare time, Mrs. Corr enjoys time with the family (especially in the mountains) cooking, powerlifting, gardening, and taking care of their household zoo which includes: three dogs, a cat, a gerbil, a guinea pig, a bearded dragon, a leopard gecko, and a bunch of fish!

August: 7 Habits for Kids

Legacy Point Elementary opens the 2018-2019 school year celebrating its 16th year, and its 5th year as a Lighthouse School. As such, we continue to integrate the “7 Habits of Happy Kids” into all aspects of the teaching and learning cycle for our students. The Habits, which are similar to the “7 Habits of Effective People” developed by Stephen R. Covey in 1989 have been the cornerstone of the Leader in Me framework since 2010. The empirical evidence for Leader in Me has been growing rapidly and there are now over 30 academic research studies which have evaluated the effectiveness of Leader in Me and proved its impact. Research that demonstrates this impact includes research from the University of Michigan’s College of Education, which released the findings from two separate quasi-experimental studies in two reports showing positive impacts to student disciplinary referrals and attendance in Leader in Me schools. One report focused on disciplinary rates and attendance in Missouri and the other on disciplinary rates in Florida. The findings are the strongest empirical evidence of the effectiveness of the Leader in Me process to date. Both studies followed the strict evidence standards required by What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) and the Collaborative of Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL). Below are key findings from the two reports:

Additionally, research indicates that schools with positive learning climates free from discipline problems, bullying, and disengagement perform better academically. Additionally, the literature suggests that effective social emotional learning in schools leads to better academic outcomes for students. With over 30 academic research studies completed, Leader in Me has demonstrated impact in all of these areas including school culture, student behavior, attendance, students’ social-emotional skills, and staff and student engagement. Further, several recent studies show an impact on academics.

In order to facilitate the benefits of the 7 Habits for Happy Kids, teachers will focus on integrating the habits throughout their daily instruction, striving to create students who take ownership of their learning through the embodiment of the habits.

We look forward to highlighting the home-school connection of these 7 Habits in The Beacon throughout the year!

Leader in Me schools in Missouri had 42 percent fewer discipline incidence than predicted by pre-Leader in Me performance and matched controls. Had Leader in Me schools not participated in the process, they would have had significantly more discipline incidence.

Leader in Me schools in Missouri who left the Leader in Me process experienced a significant decline (P˂0.0001) in school attendance compared to schools that still remain in the Leader in Me process and matched control schools.

Leader in Me schools in Missouri that have participated in the process since the launch of Leader in Me 3.0, experienced significantly increased attendance (P=0.007).

An analysis of Florida Leader in Me schools compared with matched control schools revealed a 23 percent im-provement in disciplinary incidence for Leader in Me schools.
