Support a Second Team (SAST)An initiative fronted by sportscotland paired West Lothian with three commonwealth nations recognised as being Singapore, Nauru and Turks and Caicos. In the build-up and throughout the games, West Lothian maintained contact with all SAST’s in an attempt to create partnerships supporting all through their journey to the games and beyond.

Prior to the games taking place, regular communication resulted in all SAST’s supplying West Lothian with a message for the arrival of the Queens Baton Relay proceedings all of which were read out at the end of day celebration event in Howden Park, Livingston. Additionally, a short film lasting two minutes was supplied by Singapore in support of the recently successful celebrating sport awards held in Armadale Community Sport Hub.

Pre Games Training Camps (PGTC’s)In an attempt to provide all SAST’s with the opportunity to experience West Lothian hospitality, a number of meetings took place to discuss PGTC activities in various sports including swimming, track and field (high jump, 200 meters, 4 x 100 meters), weightlifting, table tennis and air pistol shooting. As a result of regular communication, West Lothian hosted a PGTC in air pistol shooting for one athlete and head coach from Turks and Caicos. The PGTC brought together a number of community organisations including Redcraig Shooting Club, Morton Clay Targets, Livelines Tackle and Guns alongside Premier Fixed Rate and Linlithgow Inn to supply both Team Turks and Caicos with both a welcoming a memorable experience.
