Letter from the Director Kim Lavigueur, the Assistant Director, is retiring afternearly 32 years of service to this department and the Town of Ledyard. This department’s growth would never havebeen as successful as it has been without Kim’s guidance, devotion, hard work, creativity and her vision of where this department should be headed. She has always had a sense of the needs of the community and was able to offer some of the best programs and instructors in the area. Her contribution to this department over the years cannot be matched by anyone. On behalf of thousands of Ledyard’s children and all the summer camp employees whom Kim has hired over the years, Thank you, Kim!On a personal note, it’s been an honor and a privilege working with Kim all these years. I have always considered her an equal in all the decision-making processes and how this department has moved forward into the future. She has been an incredible co-worker and friend over these years. Nancy, Lynny, Monika, Paul, Russell and I wish Kim all the best in her retirement with her husband, children and grandchildren. She will be sorely missed. Don Grisé

BROCHURE COVER We hope you enjoyed our version of the Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover from 1969. The recording sessions for this particular album were the last in which all four Beatles participated, which is sadly the case for the close-knit staff of this office. Barry Watrous shot this photo from a ladderthe day before this brochure went to print, when it was only 34 degrees, with an extremely blustery wind and snow flurries. Not the most comfortable of conditions, especially when you’re the one that’s barefoot! I have long wanted to do this particular photo for our brochure cover and I would love to thank Don, Kim, and Russell for humoring me and agreeing to do it. Knowing that Kim will be retiring in just a few short weeks makes it all the more bittersweet.Although I have only had the pleasure and privilege of working with Kim for less than five years, I have learned so much from her. I truly admire her professionalism, dedication, fairness, work ethic and humor. Oh, the humor! People coming into our office always remark on the camaraderie and laughter we all share. This department definitely won’t be the same without Kim. It is a true honor to be able to call her not only my co-worker, but friend. ~ Monika Verebelyi

TOWN OF LEDYARD CONNECTICUT

OFFICE OF THE MAYOR

Fred B. Allyn III 741 Colonel Ledyard Highway

Mayor Ledyard, CT 06339-1551 (860) 464-3222

FAX (860)-464-8455 Mary-Beth Hubbard

Executive Assistant to the Mayor    Happy Holidays Ledyard!   The red, orange, yellow and bronze fall foliage has settled to the ground and winter is upon us. The Ledyard Parks and Rec Department has plenty for you to get involved in this winter! Stay busy, have fun and meet new people or join those you already know. Online registration is just a click away! Thinking about the holidays, lights and decorations, be sure to take part in the holiday home decoration contest then watch the Jeep parade as they make their way by all the decorated homes in the contest.   I’d be remiss not to remind our residents of winter storms and parking rules. With an impending storm, winter parking bans will be in effect before the storm and up to 24 hours after the end of the storm. It’s critical that we not park in the roads during these times to allow Public Works to clear the roads as best we can and going around parked cars in storms is not good for the car owner, the town or the plow driver. Do not shovel or plow snow into or across our roads.   This year, Eversource has budgeted $80,000,000 state‐wide to cut trees near or leaning toward the power lines. The tree crews have been very active in Town, dealing with many dead trees as a result of the Gypsy Moth infestation. Despite these efforts, there will be outages in snow and ice storms‐ particularly when high winds are included. If you have a whole house generator, make sure it is serviced and ready to power your home. If you have a portable generator, have a place established to locate the generator, outside the structure and garage and a bit away from the home. Run it before storms, have fuel on hand before storms and always use fresh gas.  For those that qualify, heating oil assistance is available through several programs. Please contact Marybeth Hubbard at (860) 464‐3222 to apply for energy assistance. Do not wait until the last minute as processing and approving applications takes time.   If you haven’t already done so, please search “Mayor Fred” on Facebook and “friend” me. You can keep up with me this way and read important information and see what I’m doing in representing our Town.  Enjoy the holiday season with family and friends, be safe and have a happy, healthy, prosperous New Year!    Best regards,

 Fred B. Allyn III
