Manyintheacademiccommunity,par0cularlythoseworkingintheArts&Humani0es,haveconcernsaboutcapturingtheirlecturesonvideo.Thisispartlytodowithcopyrightconcerns-apoten0allyseriousissueforacademicsteachingsubjectssuchasfilmstudiesorarthistory,andpartlytodowithpedagogicalconcernsabouttheimpactrecordinglectureswillhaveonhowtheylecture,theexpecta0onsofstudents,theirrela0onshipswithstudents,andhowstudentslearn.

Someacademicsareenthusias0cwhileothersareverycau0ous.Whenaskingacademicsaboutthirdpartymaterialitisdifficulttoeducateabouta"reasonableamount"-theyfeeltheyhavetherighttoshowanyamountforeduca0onalpurposes.

Someusersdidexpressconcernsovercopyright-thatrecordingwouldlimitwhattheywereabletoshowinclass-butmyadvicewasthatprovidedaccesswassecuredtothatcohortofstudentsthiswouldnotbeaproblem.Aoerall,theyhavebeenuploadingtheirPowerPointstoourVLEformorethanadecadewithoutonecopyrightcomplaint!

Widerconsentissues…Weareatanearlystagewithlecturecapture-s0llinpilotwithonlyalimitednumberofacademicsengaging.It’snotcausedanyissueswithexternalagenciestodate.However,weareconsciousthatourIPRandcopyrightpoliciesrelyonreferencetostafftermsandcondi0onsandthesedonotexplicitlyreferencelecturecapture,sowearefacedwithcrea0ngeitheraseparatelecturecapturepolicyorrewri0ngstaffT&Cs
TheacademiccommunityhasexpressedtheirconcernsaboutthewaythatLectureCapturewasintroducedattheuniversity,whichwasrela0velyquicklywithnotagreatdealofconsulta0oncomparedtootherHEI's,andabouttheconsequencesofbeingrequiredtodosounlessyouoptout.ThishasresultedinleHersbeingwriHentotheuniversitybytheunion,andbyothergroupsrepresen0ngtheacademiccommunityexpressingtheirconcerns
