A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah (IS 11:1-10)

On that day, a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom. Thespirit of the LORD shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a spirit of counsel andof strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the LORD, and his delight shall be the fear of theLORD. Not by appearance shall he judge, nor by hearsay shall he decide, but he shall judge the poorwith justice, and decide aright for the land’s afflicted. He shall strike the ruthless with the rod of hismouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked. Justice shall be the band around hiswaist, and faithfulness a belt upon his hips. Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb, and the leopardshall lie down with the kid; the calf and the young lion shall browse together, with a little child to guidethem. The cow and the bear shall be neighbors, together their young shall rest; the lion shall eat hay likethe ox. The baby shall play by the cobra’s den, and the child lay his hand on the adder’s lair. There shallbe no harm or ruin on all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be filled with knowledge of the LORD,as water covers the sea. On that day, the root of Jesse, set up as a signal for the nations, the Gentilesshall seek out, for his dwelling shall be glorious.

A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans (ROM 15:4-9)

Brothers and sisters: Whatever was written previously was written for our instruction, that byendurance and by the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. May the God ofendurance and encouragement grant you to think in harmony with one another, in keeping with ChristJesus, that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord JesusChrist. Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed you, for the glory of God. For I say thatChrist became a minister of the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, to confirm the promises tothe patriarchs, but so that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written: Therefore, Iwill praise you among the Gentiles and sing praises to your name.

Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew (MT 3:1-12)

People: Glory to you, O Lord.

John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea and saying, “Repent, for thekingdom of heaven is at hand!” It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when hesaid: A voice of one crying out in the desert, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight hispaths. John wore clothing made of camel’s hair and had a leather belt around his waist. Hisfood was locusts and wild honey. At that time Jerusalem, all Judea, and the whole regionaround the Jordan were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan Riveras they acknowledged their sins. When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees comingto his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from thecoming wrath? Produce good fruit as evidence of your repentance. And do not presume to sayto yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God can raise up children toAbraham from these stones. Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every treethat does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. I am baptizing youwith water, for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is mightier than I. I am notworthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowingfan is in his hand. He will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into his barn, but thechaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”

Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.

The Responsorial: Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever. (PS 72:1-2,7-8,12-13,17)

Lector: Alleluia People Only: Alleluia (Stand) Lector Only: Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths:

all flesh shall see the salvation of God. (LK 3:4, 6)

Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

consubstantial with the Father;

through Him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation He came down

from heaven,At the words that follow, up to and including and became Man, all bow

and by the Holy Spirit was Incarnate of the

Virgin Mary and became Man.

For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

He suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living

and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver ofLife, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

Who with the Father and the Son is adored and

glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the deadand the life of the world to come. Amen.

Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus

Come, Thou long-expected Jesus,Born to set Thy people free; From our fears and sins release us,Let us find our rest in Thee.

Israel’s Strength and Consolation,Hope of all the earth Thou art;Dear Desire of every nation,Joy of every longing heart.

Entrance

At the Lamb’s High Feast

At the Lamb's high feast we singPraise to our victorious King,He has washed us in the tideFlowing from his open side;Praise we him, whose love divineGives his sacred blood for wine.Gives his body for the feast,Christ the victim, Christ the priest.

Where the paschal blood is poured,Death's dark angel sheathes his sword;Israel's hosts triumphant goThrough the wave that drowns the foe.Praise we Christ, whose blood was shed,Paschal victim, paschal bread! With sincerity and loveEat we manna from above.

Easter triumph, Easter joy,Sin alone can this destroy; From sin’s power, do thou set freeSouls newborn, O Lord, in thee.Hymns of glory, songs of praise,Father, unto thee we raise:Risen Lord all praise to theeWith the Spirit, ever be.

Offertory

Lord When You Came to the Seashore

Lord, when you came to the seashoreYou weren’t seeking the wise or the wealthy,But only asking that I might follow.

Refrain:O Lord, in my eyes you were gazing,Kindly smiling, my name you were saying; All I treasured, I have left on the sand there;Close to you, I will find other seas.

Lord, you knew what my boat carried; Neither money nor weapons for fighting,But nets for fishing, my daily labor. Refrain

Lord, have you need of my labor,Hands for service, a heart made for loving,My arms for lifting the poor and the broken.Refrain

MeditationSing of Mary

Sing of Mary, pure and lowly,Virgin mother undefiled,

Sing of God's own Son most holy,Who became her little child.

Fairest child of fairest mother,God the Lord who came to earth,

Word made flesh, our very brother,Takes our nature by his birth.Sing of Jesus, son of Mary,

In the home at Nazareth.Toil and labour cannot weary

Love enduring unto death.

Communion

O God of Loveliness

O God of loveliness, 0 Lord of heaven above,

How worthy to possess my heart's devoted love.

So sweet thy countenance, so gracious to behold

That one, one only glance to me were bliss untold.

Thou art blest Three in One, yet undivided still,

Thou art that One alone, whose love my heart can fill.

The heavens and earth below were fashioned by thy Word,

How amiable art Thou, my ever dearest Lord.

To think Thou art my God,--O thought forever blest!

My heart has overflowed with joy within my breast.

My soul so full of bliss, is plunged as in a sea,

Deep in the sweet abyss of holy charity.

O loveliness supreme, and Beauty infinite,

0 ever flowing Stream and Ocean of delight,

0 Life by which I live, My truest Life above,

To Thee alone I give my undivided love.

Prayer of Intercession and Consecration to the Immaculate ConceptionOur Lady’s feast day was transferred this year from Sunday, December 8th to

Monday, December 9th by the United States Catholic Bishops who also declared this year’s moved feast day not a holy day of obligation.

St. Peter's Parish will be celebrating a feast day mass Monday, December 9 at 9:00am at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel.

O Virgin Immaculate, Mother of God and my Mother, from thy sublime height turn upon me thineeyes of pity. Filled with confidence in thy goodness and knowing full well thy power, I beseechthee to extend to. me thine assistance in the journey of life, which is so full of dangers for my soul. And in order that I may never be the slave of the devil through sin, , but may ever live with myheart humble and pure, I entrust myself wholly to thee. I consecrate my heart to thee for ever, myonly desire being to love thy divine Son Jesus. Mary, none of thy devout servants has ever perished;may I too be saved. Amen.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace inbelieving, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you mayabound in hope. - Romans 15:13
