Learning with SeesawIn year 2, the students have been learning how to use Seesaw while learning at home. They have been doing a fantastic job completing set tasks and following directions to learn how to use the app. They are engaging with this new learning experience with such positivity and enthusiasm. The students can record themselves speaking, post a video of themselves, comment on tasks, and also view videos that their teachers post to help them with their learning. The students have already posted such wonderful work samples and videos. We are so proud of our students and thank you parents for your ongoing support!

Week 3 Learning

Your classroom teacher may have communicated with you about logging on to Microsoft Teams. This exciting platform will be used from next week so that your teacher can video conference with you and your class!

Next week learning will begin to look different as tasks will be posted differently on See Saw. Tasks will be given for the day in slide shows which students can complete in their own time during the day. Your teacher may ask for you to join a video conference at some time during the week too.

Managing screen time and online safety

As your child is likely to be spending time online, it is important that you talk to them about online safety. This will help them to make good digital choices and use information and communication technologies responsibly.

You may wish to speak to your children about ensuring they:

● use only the online tools recommended by their school or the Department of Education and Training (DET)

● are respectful when communicating online, just as they would be when speaking face-to-face

● use digital devices in open areas of the home

Remote Learning Tips

Unreasonable Behaviours

Students must continue to follow the school’s code of student conduct and Acceptable Use of Technology Agreements provided or signed at the start of 2020. Students should contact their classroom teacher if they experience inappropriate behaviour online.

Behaviours that are considered inappropriate on and adjacent to school grounds or in relation to school business and that do not uphold the values of this Code of Conduct include when a person:

● is rude, aggressive or harasses others● sends rude, confronting or threatening letters, emails or

text messages● is manipulative or threatening● speaks in an aggressive tone, either in person or over the

telephone● makes sexist, racist or derogatory comments● inappropriately uses social media as a forum to raise

concerns/make complaints against the school

Please refer to letter posted on Seesaw on 23/4 for further details on how the school is using Microsoft teams and Seesaw.

Every home is different. Where possible, extended learning should take place in a space your family shares. For example, a lounge room or dining room. These spaces are preferable over a bedroom, where your child can feel isolated and supervision can be more challenging.

It should be a place:

● That can be quiet at times● Where you or another adult is present as you would normally

when your child is online● That is comfortable with a chair and table to work at and good

lighting● Which has everything needed including pens, pencils, paper,

and within reach ● With access to technology and internet access to complete

online tasks● Without distractions

Setting up a Learning Space for Your Child/Children

Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) 2020 Applications

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund offers financial support to families with a health care/pension card valid on the first day of Term 1 or the first day of Term 2 each year. If eligible, families will receive $125 per student, which will be held at the school on your family account. These funds can be allocated as required to excursions and camps as they arise throughout the year.

If you have not already applied for CSEF this year and you now hold a health care/pension card that was valid on 14th April 2020, please complete the attached CSEF form and email it, along with a copy of your card to river.gum.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au.

details and concession card status in order to enable the business to determine if I qualify for a concession, rebate or service. I also authorise the

Australian Government Department of Human Services (DHS) to provide the results of that enquiry to DET.

CSEF ELIGIBILITY

Below is the criteria used to determine a student’s eligibility for the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF).

Criteria 1 – Eligibility

To be eligible* for the fund, a parent or legal guardian of a student attending a registered Government or non-

government Victorian primary or secondary school must:

• on the first day of Term one, or;

• on the first day of Term two;

a) Be an eligible beneficiary within the meaning of the State Concessions Act 2004, that is, be a holder of Veterans

Affairs Gold Card or be an eligible Centrelink Health Care Card (HCC) or Pensioner Concession Card (PCC)

holder, OR

b) Be a temporary foster parent, and;

c) Submit an application to the school by the due date.

Parents who receive a Carer Allowance on behalf of a child, or any other benefit or allowance not income tested by

Centrelink, are not eligible for the CSEF unless they also comply with one of (a) or (b) above.

Criteria 2 - Be of school age and attend school in Victoria

School is compulsory for all Victorian children aged between six and 17 years of age inclusive.

For the purposes of CSEF, students may be eligible for assistance if they attend a Victorian registered primary or

secondary school. Typically, these students are aged between five and 18 years inclusive.

CSEF is not payable to students attending pre-school, kindergarten, home schooled, or TAFE.

Eligibility Date

For concession card holders CSEF eligibility will be subject to the parent/legal guardian’s concession card being successfully validated with Centrelink on the first day of either term one (28 January 2020) or term two (14 April 2020).

PAYMENT AMOUNTS

CSEF payment amount

The CSEF is an annual payment to the school to be used towards camps, sports and/or excursion expenses for the

benefit of the eligible student.

• Primary school student rate: $125 per year.

• Secondary school student rate: $225 per year.

The CSEF is paid directly to your child’s school and will be allocated by the school towards camps, sports and/or

excursion costs for your child.

For ungraded students, the rate payable is determined by the student’s date of birth. For more information, see:

Year 7 government school students who are CSEF recipients are also eligible for a uniform voucher. Secondary

schools are required to make applications on behalf of parents so please register your interest at the school.

HOW TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FORM

NOTE: ALL SECTIONS MUST BE COMPLETED BY PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN

1. Complete the PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN DETAILS section.

Make sure that the Surname, First Name, and Customer Reference Number (CRN) details match those on your

concession card. You will also need to provide your concession card to the school.

If you are claiming as a Foster Parent or a Veteran Affairs Pensioner, you will need to provide a copy of

documentation confirming your status as a temporary Foster Parent or provide your Veterans Affairs Pensioner Gold

card to the school.

2. Complete the STUDENT/S DETAILS section for students at this school.

3. Sign and date the form and return it to the school office as soon as possible. The CSEF program for 2020 closes on 26 June, 2020.

CSEF payments cannot be claimed retrospectively for prior years.
