Not just a technology tools course

Learning Objectives• Build awareness of the ways that students, teachers and the academic

environment are changing with regard to required skills, needs, learning styles and use of ICT

• Develop basic proficiency in:– Authoring: text and multimedia– Internet skills: finding, evaluating, organizing and sharing resources– Networking and collaboration: collaboration tools, social networks– Learning Management Systems

• Develop an awareness of active learning methods which these technologies enable.

• Develop an understanding of which methods, resources and technologies are most appropriate and how to begin to implement changes.

Clarification of Goals

• We will NOT try to master every learning technology– Too many– Not all are relevant

• We will build an understanding of tools and methods and relate them to your particular situation as educators so that you can innovate wisely and help catalyze change.

• We will prepare you to succeed in Course 2, “Active Learning”. – themes, tools, LMS, course format
