learning technologies - 6 ways to use online quizzes
DESCRIPTION
Online quizzes can be used in a variety of ways to support and scaffold learning for campus-based students. Here are 6 examples. Lecture review - your slides won't tell the whole story, see if students picked up the extra bits in their own notes with post-lecture quizzes. Pre-session polls - use student input as part of your lecture or seminar, only revealing results in the session. Self-paced online study - the 'flipped classroom' approach to deliver content online, use a quiz to allow students to self-check, then use class time for discussion (particularly if quizzes have 'no right answer'). Continuous formative work - use of quiz tools (including long/short text answers) can be used to measure students' knowledge and interpretation throughout a module. Revision / practice exams - make past papers more responsive by developing quiz pools from them. Specific learning activity - use quizzes to structure student's online learning, getting them to process new information, provide a response, and offer automated feedback (or simply use as a record of their own progress).
