The Steps

Open PowerPoint 2013.

Click on Design Tab on Ribbon at top.

In Themes Group, click on scroll bar to view Theme choices; drag mouse across each Theme to view, click on desired Theme.

Click in text box(es) to begin typing. All text boxes may be moved around on each slide.

New Slide

Click Home Tab, Slides Group, click the words New Slide UNDER icon.

Click on desired layout.

Click in box(es) to begin typing or double click on any helper icon in middle of layout (Table, Chart, SmartArt, etc).

Save frequently by clicking on the save icon, top left corner next to the PowerPoint icon or press CTRL S on keyboard.

Click Home Tab, Slides Group, Layout

icon.

Click on desired layout.

New layout replaces old layout. Any

typing on original layout will be visible on

the new layout, though it may be in a

different location and require adjusting.

Click Design Tab.

Click on scroll bar in Themes Group to view choices. Drag mouse across each Theme to view, click on desired Theme.

New Theme replaces old Theme. Any typing on original Theme will be visible on the new Theme. A new Theme can be chosen at any time. Suggestion: choose before typing ANYTHING!

Click Insert Tab, Text Group, Header & Footer icon.

Headers are available (and print) only on handouts.

Click in white square to left of Date and time, Update

Automatically is chosen for you.

Click in white box next to slide number for “slide #’s”.

Click in white box next to Footer; type in empty box

below footer any text you want to appear at the bottom of

each slide.

Click on Apply to All to have these show on each slide;

click on Apply if desired only on current slide.

Resizing and Moving Items

Everything is sizeable and moveable: text, clipart and shapes.

To resize: Click in the desired text box or picture. Locate

mouse on one of the white squares surrounding the item. When

mouse becomes a double headed arrow, hold down left mouse

button and drag in either direction the arrows point. Release

mouse button when desired size.

If the white squares “disappear”, locate the mouse on the item

and click the left mouse button once. The squares will

reappear.

To move: Click anywhere in the text box or

on a picture. Locate mouse on one of the

edges of the item, taking care to AVOID the

little white squares. When mouse becomes a

four headed arrow, hold down left mouse

button and drag the item to the desired

location. Release the mouse button when

the item is in the desired location.

Inserting ClipArt

Click Insert Tab on Ribbon, Images Group, click Online Pictures icon

Insert Pictures window appears. Type a descriptive name for the clip art you want to search for in the white box. Click on magnifying icon to begin search or press ENTER on keyboard.

Scroll through and double click on desired piece of clipart.

Click once on the clip art to select it. A Format Tab appears on Ribbon. Click Text Wrapping, in Arrange Group. Click Tight. This allows the clip art to be moved anywhere in the document and have text wrapped AROUND the clipart.

Resize or move using mouse. Use double headed arrows to re-size, four headed arrow to move.

Adding Animation (pictures or text)

• Click once on desired item to animate. Click on Animations Tab. Click scroll bar in Animations Group to see animation choices. Click on desired Animation.

• Click Animation Pane in Advanced Animation Group for more options. Animation Task Pane opens on right side of screen. Click PLAY to see animation in action.

• Click on down arrow next to animation for more choices including REMOVING the animation.

Click Insert Tab, Illustrations Group, click Shapes

or SmartArt icon.

Click on desired Shape or SmartArt.

Click anywhere on slide to draw and insert a

Shape; click OK to insert SmartArt. Type text

into SmartArt. Click OUTSIDE of SmartArt

when done typing.

Resize or move Shape or SmartArt on slide.

Adding Transitions

Click Transitions Tab, Transition to This Slide Group, click Scroll bar in Transition to This Slide Group to see all Transition choices. Click on desired Transition.

Click Preview in Preview Group to watch your animation; change or select None for no transition, if desired.

In Timing Group, click Apply to All. Each slide will use the same transition. Transitions can be applied at any time.

Running the SlideShow

Return to first slide in presentation by scrolling or pressing CTRL HOME on keyboard.

Click the slide show icon , bottom right corner of screen, next to Zoom control.

Click mouse button to advance to next slide or press any key on keyboard.

At end of slideshow, a black screen appears. Click mouse, or press ESC key to return to PowerPoint program.

Click Slide Sorter icon, bottom right corner

of screen.

Delete: Click on slide to delete, press delete key

on keyboard. Continue for as many slides as

desired.

Move: Click on Slide to move, hold down mouse

button and drag into desired position. Release

mouse button. Continue for as many slides as

desired.

Printing

To print entire presentation, one slide per page,

click File Tab, Print, Print.

To print multiple slides per page, click File Tab,

Print, under Settings, click arrow next to Full

Page Slides; click on desired choice. A preview

of your selection will show on the right. Click

Print icon if you are ready to print. Click

back arrow, top left to return to presentation

without printing.
