Ken Meyerson is a long time supporter of the DSY, advocate for youth development programs, and Vice-Chairman at CBRE - the world’s largest commercial real estate services and investment firm. Ken started his career at CBRE over 25 years ago, and has grown to be a leader within the company during his tenure. In 2017, Ken won the Henry Hart Rice Achievement Award for

the Most Ingenious Deal of the Year, for his work on the 1199 SEIU National Benefit Funds transaction at 498 Seventh Avenue.

Ken was first introduced to the All Stars Project and the Development School for Youth in 2006 through his colleague Greg Tosko, who serves on the National Board of Directors for the All Stars Project. Ken has been involved with the DSY for 13 years now, and is committed to helping our youth develop and grow. In 2017, Ken joined the All Stars Project of New York Board. He has led workshops at CBRE to introduce the real estate industry to hundreds of young people, worked with DSY students for mock job interviews, has hosted internships, and has personally organized over $350,000 in financial support for the Development School for Youth.

CBRE is a key partner of the All Stars Project for more than 15 years. Dozens of employees actively volunteer with the DSY each year, to share their experiences and offer opportunities to inner-city youth around the country. CBRE has generously sponsors life-changing internships for 21 young people in New York, New Jersey, and Chicago since 2007.

We are grateful for Ken’s dedication to the development of young people and for championing the All Stars Project and Development School for Youth at CBRE and beyond.

Thank you for hosting 126 youth from all 5 boroughs of NYC at your companies this summer!

W H AT I S T HE D S Y ? Over the last 23 years, the Development School for Youth (DSY) has emerged as a national leader in bridging the divide between urban youth and corporations in major cities across the country. Our unique model for youth development operates in six cities across the country - New York, Newark, Jersey City, Chicago, Dallas, and the San Francisco Bay Area - and has provided more than 4,800 inner-city young people with life changing opportunities.

In DSY, young people ages 16 to 21 from poor communities learn how to perform as professionals. Through 14 weeks of workshops and trainings, students acquire skills such as: public speaking, dressing professionally, resume writing, networking, and business acumen. Upon completion of the workshops, students are placed in 6-week paid summer internships.

KATE BARTON Global Vice Chair - Tax, EYIt has really been a great privilege to be an All Stars contributor and supporter since 2006. EY is very committed to supporting and partnering with the All Stars to open up new pathways for opportunity for young people growing up in communities where they don’t have as many opportunities. As a firm, we really believe in giving back, and we get so much from participating and building the All Stars programs and developing young people. I am proud that we have sponsored over 175 interns from the Development School for Youth.

THE HONORABLE SONIA SOTOMAYOR Associate Justice, Supreme Court of the United States

There are causes that motivate me, that keep me excited about being a judge, and about being a human being. The [Development School for Youth] is one of those programs… As I am growing older, and as I hope to continue making contributions to developing my society, I realize that it’s meaningless unless the generation that follows me picks up the battle and continues it. And the battle is… to be better citizens, to be better family members, to be better friends, community members, and to give back to our society and make it better for everyone. This program I believe does that.

AVRIEL KELLY Fall 2009 DSY graduate, Alumni Leadership Council Member,

Analyst at Evercore Partners Services

I didn’t know much outside of my neighborhood in the Bronx, but the DSY opened my eyes to a different world that I never

would have known existed or that I could be a part of. The DSY helped me when I first participated in it ten years ago – and has

continued to ever since.

GERSWHIN JUAREZ Spring 2019 DSY graduate

Since I live in the projects in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, I stayed in a lot and didn’t socialize because I did not want to risk getting in with the wrong group. The DSY has been my chance to be

outgoing and get out of my bubble. I have dropped a lot of my friends who started doing drugs and have made better ones

through the program that can help me in my future.
