This week has included our College Council AGM and the election of Lara Wakefield as President with Pat Higgins as Vice President - congratulations to you both
We had our OH&S audit on Wednesday and both primary and secondary swimming teams competed in Regional finals on Thursday. There were several highlights and quite a few medals won.
Student reports have gone home and I encourage you to come to our PT interviews next week - students are invited as well.
A reminder that term will end on Thursday next week at 2.30pm - a well deserved break for everyone

Thirty one Ouyen P-12 Secondary students, along with several parents had an early start yesterday to travel to Swan Hill to
compete in the SSV Loddon Mallee Region Country Swimming Championships. Congratula8ons to these students. There
will be a full report in next week’s newsleBer.
OUYEN SCHOOL ROWING PROGRAM
With the Ouyen Lake Project well under way, we are very excited to announce that the Mildura Rowing Club has been
successful in obtaining a Spor8ng Club Grant from the Department of Health & Human Services to help fund the cost of
establishing Coaches and support staff for the ‘Ouyen School Rowing Program’.
We are now looking to iden8fy par8cipants, which could include parents and staff in Ouyen who would be interested in
comple8ng an online coaching course to help with the program. It might also include students looking to become accredit-
ed coxswain.
If anyone is interested in comple8ng this course, please contact the office.
Respectful Relationships: Parent Information Session.
Please save the date Tuesday 1st May 2018 for our first information session for parents and interested community members on the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program. This program became mandatory in Victorian Government Schools in 2017 and now we have the chance to gain more insight into the background, content and desired objectives. We will be very fortunate to have Bev Thomson in attendance as our North West Liaison Officer.
There will be a staff briefing at 3.30, followed by a parent and community information session at 6pm. We aim for both sessions to last no longer than one hour. Supervised activities for children are being offered during the evening session. This service is free, however bookings are essential. Please leave your name with Mrs Shelley Woodall or notify the Office Staff.

. We realise that Parent Teacher
Interviews are on in the aIernoon but every date looked at seemed to clash with something else and the mee8ng has to go
ahead. We trust you will support it.
Doctors in Secondary Schools – Thanks to Mr. Cua, Dr. Ashraf Takla and Fiona LaBa for their presenta8on about the
wonderful new opportunity to support our children’s health and well-being that will begin at the school next term.

Contact people - Each year we ask for volunteers to be the Contact People for our catering events. When a catering [or
other fundraising] event is on, we allocate the task to different year level groups. The contact person is the one you contact to

Bachelor of Science course planner -
This will help students plan their studies in their preferred science area. With 40 majors available (more than any other science
degree in Australia), it can make considering options overwhelm-
ing or a bit complicated. The course planner allows students to
type in either a career, major or subject and, depending upon
the search, it provides a career pathway or course information
map to follow. For example, if 'veterinary medicine' is entered in
the search field, the planner will advise which major and subjects
to take as well as the career outcomes.

HEALTH – (PARAMEDIC / AMBULANCE OFFICER)
According to the Australian Department of Jobs and
Small Business*, ‘Health and Welfare Support Workers’
are looking at a 19.2% increase in employment over
the next five years and the occupation as a
Paramedic/Ambulance Officer is projected to have
a 24.5% increase specifically. It is worth considering
this career if medicine and science is your chosen
pathway.
Specializations in this field include
Intensive Care Paramedic – Attends life-threatening emergencies and gives intensive
treatment to patients before arrival at hospital.
(This requires additional training in the areas of
anatomy/physiology, pathophysiology and
pharmacology to be able to make medical
decisions without consultation.
Paramedic Clinical Instructor – Provides training
and support to paramedic interns.
Depending on your chosen specialist area, you can
refer to the table below for bachelor degree options,
which normally are a minimum of 3 years of full time
study or equivalent.
Upon completion, graduates are then eligible to
apply to Ambulance Victoria as a graduate para-
medic and complete a one-year practical training
program. However as courses do change, you will
need to contact the universities you are interested in

CONSTRUCTION INDUCTION CARD
Congratulations to the following Year 10 students who have successfully gained their Construction
Induction Card for Occupational Health & Safety
This course was partly funded by MIPS and Parents and Friends.
Thanks to Cathy Keeble from SuniTAFE Mildura for conducting this course.
The Construction card is needed for work experience in industries such as plumbing, building, car-
pentry, electrical, landscaping engineering and architecture. However it also can also be required
by students considering options such as civil engineering and food

Mallee Track Health and Community Service is developing its next five-year strategic plan (2017 to 2021).
Feedback from the community will be critical to develop the big picture plan for the region’s future health goals and challenges.
MTHCS has appointed consulting firm Healthcare Management Advisors to develop surveys (hard copy and online). These will be available throughout the catchment in waiting rooms and other points of care at MTHCS (both paper-based and online using IPads).
This is your chance to guide planning for health services in the region and how they are delivered.
How can you help?
Be sure to have your say on the key issues under consideration for the Strategic Plan, such as:
Surrounding hospitals and health services and local government.
Telehealth: What do you know about it? Could this benefit our region?
Chronic disease and health issues – What support is available? What is needed?
Services that need to be delivered closer to home.

NET, SET, GO
Welcome to the 2018 Net, Set, Go year –our 15th
year of the program. Net, Set, Go will commence on
THURSDAY, 19TH
APRIL – the first Thursday of second term.
Parents can register their children by clicking on the link provided below – the 2018 season will cost $60
with the girls receiving a ball and T-shirt along with other goodies.

The first session will commence at 3.45pm and is aimed at new players and those with one year of experi-
ence.

aged to bring along a posi8ve and enthusias8c aTtude!

The 2018 Night Netball season will commence on MONDAY, 16TH APRIL. Girls in grade 6 and above are
eligible to play. Interested girls are asked to place their names on sheets on the no8ceboards.

the Community Centre.
