Dear Parents, Staff, Students & Friends, A word from our Principal:

Return to school advice, part 2. Dear Parents and Carers, While the Chief Health Officer has advised that students will not be required to maintain physical distancing at school, there will be a number of important changes to our school operations, consistent with health advice to all schools that is available. These will apply until further notice. It is important to note that changes will include:

Start dates for on-site Learning:

Preps, Years 1 and 2 start on 26th May

Years 3 to 6 start on 9th June

Dropping off and collecting students: In order to appropriately supervise students' entry and exit from school, only the Duff St gates and the Wallace Rd gate will be open for drop off and pick up. All Prep students will be dropped off at the main Duff St gate (near the office). All Year 1 and 2 students will be dropped off at the middle Duff St Gates (near Area 4). Where you have a child in two year levels you must use the youngest child's entry gate. NOTE: Wallace Rd gate will be open for students only (no adults may enter through this gate). Only use this gate if you are willing for your child to walk across the schoolyard on their own.

Drop off and collection times: To reduce congestion at drop off and pick up times, we will have staggered school start and finish time s:

It is essential to drop off and pick children up at the NEW designated times! For parent s/ carers who are working, you can book Outside Hour s School Care with Camp Australia by phoning 1300 105 343 or via www.campaustralia.com.au.

YEAR LEVEL DROP OFF TIME PICK UP TIME

Preps, Year 1 & Year 2 9.10am 3.00pm

Years 3 to 6 9.00am 3.10pm

Access to school premises:

Restrictions on access to the school site for anyone other than immediate school staff and students means that: Parents/carers must only enter the school grounds if absolutely necessary and you must first make an appointment by phoning the office. If on school premises (e.g. at drop off or collection times) parents must stay in designated (sign posted) parent areas and follow social distancing rules. There are to be no face to face conversations with teachers. All communication with teachers must occur through Seesaw or over the phone. Library borrowing for students can only occur during their Library class times or between 3:30 and 4:00pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Remote Learning and Home Learning Packs: Please remember that as per the previous Education Department advice, students DO NOT have the option for continuing Remote Learning once their year level returns unless they have a medical certificate stating that they are required to be absent for health or medical reasons. If you choose to keep your child home, the school is not responsible for providing work for them. You will also be required to advise the school (by contacting the office) of the student's absence. This will need to be recorded and we must advise the Department of Education. Please remember that absence notifications must be made before 9am. Home Learning Packs for students in Years 3 to 6 should be collected from Area 1 on Friday 22nd May. If they are required after this time, you will need to phone the office to arrange a collection time.

Health and safety: Students must NOT be sent to school if unwell. Parents/carers MUST have someone available to pick up your child if they become unwell. This also

means, you need to ensure that your emergency contact details are up-to-date. Please advise the office immediately if phone numbers have changed.

If students or staff are unwell they will be required to go home immediately. It is important that you ensure we have your correct emergency contact details and that the phone is

answered when we call. All students will be instructed to sanitise their hands at regular intervals throughout the day. Sanitisation

stations will be located around the school and in each Learning Area. Classroom doors or windows are to be opened to maintain airflow and reduce the risk of transmission.

This will mean that classrooms may be colder than usual, so all students should wear layers of clothing and bring a coat to school each day. Please remember to label ALL jumpers and jackets with the student's name.

Students should bring their own named water bottle for use at school as the water fountains will be shut

off. A bottle will be provided for those who don't have one.

ICT devices: All school devices (laptops and iPads) that have been borrowed MUST BE RETURNED on the first day that your oldest student returns to school. This means that all devices must be returned on or by Tuesday 9th June. On the 26th May and the 9th June we will have staff available outside of the office to collect iPads and laptops. Please ensure you bring the power cords with the devices and carry them in a bag.

Breakfast Club, Brunch Club and emergency lunches: Breakfast and Brunch Club will not be available until further notice. Emergency lunches can be organised by contacting the office. Staff, parents or carers can request an emergency lunch for a student. We understand that some familiesmay feel anxious about this move back to classroom teaching and learning. If you have any questions, please contact us by phoning the school office. More information about the return to school and coronavirus (COVID -19) can be found on the Department's website, which will continue to be updated: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/department/Pages/coronavirus.aspx Thank you for your cont inued support and patience during this time. We look forward to welcoming our st udents back to the classroom. Yours sincerely, Andrew Bergmeier PRINCIPAL

HOME LEARNING PACKS FOR YEARS 3 - 6 Home Learning Packs (hard copies) New home learning packs will be available from Friday 22nd May. These can be collected from the front office. These packs will have the same information and activities that are provided through Seesaw so you do not need to collect one unless you are having difficulties accessing devices or your student works better on paper copies. Seesaw Class App (for remote learning) All students should now be connected with their teachers via the Seesaw Class App. If they have not yet connected it is important that you contact to school to let us know how we can help. Student Learning Questions If your child is connected through the Seesaw Class App they should be logging on each day to find out what learning their teachers have set for them. They should complete and upload the work. Please don’t get stressed over their work. If they don’t understand something they can ask their teacher. If you have a question for the teacher you can ask this by sending a message to the teacher via the Seesaw Family App. If you don’t know how to do this and you need to contact the teacher, you can phone the office during school hours and a message can be passed on for the teacher to contact you.

7 ways parents can help their kids with maths

I came across this article and thought I’d share it with our community as I found it to be so valuable and in line with our TiLER Maths program. One of the things we have been working on at CWPS is our mindsets, especially with maths. As the article quotes: “You don’t need to be ‘good at maths’ yourself to foster mathematical thinking in your children.” This is important to know and believe. As parents, we teach our children maths every day without even thinking about it. The key is to ask the right questions and involve our children in our day- to-day activities such as cooking, gardening or even doing house hold chores. Some of the articles’ main ideas are:

Pocket money - Earning and managing it. Cooking - Looking at measurements or doubling recipes for more guests. Grocery Shopping Buying the ingredients for a recipe Buying enough groceries for the whole family Costs of items in bulk or individual packs. Planning a holiday Building or renovating your house Games and problem solving activities.

Lastly, opening the lines of communication, allowing your children the space to ask questions in a safe environment without been judged. It is important to empower our children with various ways of solving their questions and wonderings, it’s OK to admit we don’t know the answer but we can try to find it together. Most importantly though we want them to build a relationship with mathematical thinking whether they naturally understand or connect with it or not. Maths is part of our everyday life, so let’s embrace it!

Happy reading and I hope you find this article useful. Mrs Felix
