Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Staffing news
We have had a number of staff changes for Term 3, 2018:
Mr Luke Brandjes has gained a permanent teaching position at Bidwill PS. I know you will wish him well as he takes the next step in his career;
Mr Paul Thomson has returned from leave and will be teaching 1/2B for the remainder of the year;
Mr Tim Cleary will be teaching 5/6CT for the remainder of the year;
Mr Colin Douglas continues on leave and Miss Katherine Lowe will teaching 1/2D until he returns;
Mrs Diane McKay has taken Long Service Leave for Term 3. Library will be taught by Mrs Price on Monday and Tuesday, and by Mrs Capuyan on Wednesday and Thursday.
We are endeavouring to make these transitions as smooth as possible for the students. If you have any concerns, please contact me at school.
Exciting News
We have finally seen the start of works for our new playground equipment this week.
It will take 4 weeks to prepare and install the new equipment. I know it has been a long wait for this equipment and many of our previous students and families have contributed much time and effort to fundraising for the equipment. A big thank you to those in our school community who have tirelessly contributed to fundraising for this project.
Below is a picture of the final design.
Athletics Carnival
What wonderful weather we had on Friday for our Athletics Carnival at Tom Hunter Park. The students’ enthusiasm and participation were visible from the start of the day and didn’t seem to fade. Thank you to our staff who made sure every event happened. Thank you to Mr Smith for organising and coordinating the Yr 3-6 events, and to Miss Kidd and Miss Waddell for organising the K-2 activities.
Our day would not have happened so seamlessly without the ever-present wonderful volunteers who contribute in so many ways to our school, and especially these events. Thank you to those who helped with, or ran, events, to those who assisted at the café and canteen, to those who prepared the food behind the scenes, and to those who contributed cakes on the day. Parent participation in these events is one of the hall marks of our school, and contributes to the positive “vibe” at Faulconbridge PS.
I’m sure most people also took advantage of the BBQ last Friday. Thank you once again to our local Rotary Club for willingly giving up their time to cook for us all day.

Website
Our new website will be ‘live’ next week. There is still quite a bit of work to do, as we are taking on board the feedback you have given us. We will be working hard to get the upcoming events onto the home page for you, and to gradually update our photo gallery. We would welcome any feedback to ensure our school website is full of useful information.
External Validation
Early in Term 4 our school will undergo an External Validation process. On Staff Development Day last week, we underwent training in this process. We examined the School Excellence Framework and how it related to the Strategic Directions in our School Plan. During Term 3 staff will be gathering together documentation and analysing evidence of our impact across all 14 elements of the framework. This self-assessment process is then endorsed by our Director, Educational Leadership, Mrs Jennifer Thompson. It also validated by a panel which includes a Principal from another school network, and a Principal School Leadership. This is a rigorous process, which will occur on a five-year cycle.
PULSE Concert
I am very much looking forward to attending the PULSE Concert next Thursday night at the Sydney Opera House. Our Stage 3 choir students have been enthusiastically rehearsing ready for the big night. It is an outstanding night of the performing arts taught in Public Schools across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains. Thank you to Miss Theoharis for all her effort in teaching our choir students.
Transition to School
It is time to enrol children who will turn 5 before 31st July 2019. Our Kindergarten 2019 Transition to school program begins next week. If you have a neighbour who is intending to send their child to school next year, who has not yet enrolled, can you ask them to please contact the school as soon as possible so they can be included in our transition program. This year we are conducting three parent information sessions, along with seven transition sessions for the children, and a whole day at school in December.
If you are moving out of the area also please advise the school as soon as you know that your children will not be attending Faulconbridge Public School in 2019.

WEEK 2
TERM 3
K-2 Assembly
Poetry Competition
The 2018 Poetry Competition will be held this term. There will be four divisions: Kindergarten, Stage One, Stage Two and
Stage Three. Students will be expected to choose a poem which is school appropriate and a copy should be handed to the
teacher by the end of Week 6. The poem should be at least four lines long. Students will then need to rehearse and mem-
orize the poem and be ready to recite it in class by week 7.
Students will be assessed on the following:
Knowing the poem
Speaking clearly
Expressiveness (rhythm, pitch and volume)
Dramatic impact of facial expressions and body language
Eye contact and engagement of the audience
Students may wish to look at popular poets such as Stephen Herrick, Ogden Nash, Roald Dahl, Michael Rosen, Shirley
Hughes, Dr Suess and Andy Griffiths or perhaps ask their grandparents for a favourite poem.
This year there will be a separate category for Stage three students who write and perform their own poem.
Two students from each category will progress to Stage finals in Week 8. Stage winners from Kindergarten, Stage One,
Stage Two and Stage Three will then perform their poem at a K-6 assembly.
Stage Two and Stage Three will then perform their poem at a K-6 assembly.
Education Week is the perfect time to reflect on the successes and achievements of our school. This year we have a lot to
celebrate: a world class curriculum, dedicated and creative teachers and a host of specialist programs that are designed to
suit the needs of students.
Here at Faulconbridge we acknowledge and recognise the significant contributions that parents, caregivers and
grandparents make to their families. We would therefore like to invite you all up to the school on Friday, 10th August to
thank you for your ongoing love and support. The day will include an assembly showcasing some of the Creative and
Performing Arts opportunities available at the school, classroom visits and an afternoon of games and activities.
