Welcome to the Instituto de Idiomas Ibiza“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” John Dewey, Philosopher

The Island of Ibiza

The Beautiful Island of Ibiza (summer season & winter season)

Ibiza is the ideal place to learn SpanishIbiza is possibly the most beautiful island in the Mediterranean. After your classes and before the sun goes down, there is so much to do in Ibiza: It offers 54 of the most beautiful sandy beaches within 15-20 minutes travel time. Small quiet beaches, long white beaches alive with people and relaxed beach bars and hidden bays you can discover day after day. The nature here is incredibly beautiful.

Ibiza TownThe Colourful Spanish LadyIbiza Town is the island’s capital and with around 50,000 inhabitants it is also the largest town in Ibiza. It claims legendary status for its beauty and colourful nightlife. Whether you’ve come here for the clubbing or a lazy family holiday, Ibiza Town’s cultural heritage usually comes as a complete surprise. Nobody talks about the fortified town that rises to a dizzy peak on the sunbleached cliffs above the Mediterranean Sea. Regular visitors and locals are used to it. However, in 1999, Ibiza Town’s historic centre became an Unesco world heritage site, and ever since then more and more travelers have been discovering its antiquities for themselves. So whether you come to enjoy the sun and mild climate, to discover the day and nightlife, the beaches, the nature or the gastronomy, you will have it all here during your language course.

Truly Spanish:The Island of Ibiza is a mirror of the Hispanic society, as its thriving economy attracts people from all over Spain and Latin America. In Ibiza the main language is Spanish with all its different accents: Andalusian, Northern Spanish and the different Latin American accents.

The world famous nightlife is located just outside Ibiza Town on a beach called Playa d’en Bossa, during the summer months in San Antonio and in some of the biggest clubs in the world, which are some 7 km outside Ibiza Town in the countryside so as to guarantee a low noise level in the city. As a result, Ibiza Town maintains its unique Mediterranean and mainly Spanish atmosphere within the city and its beautiful port.

San AntonioThe Buzzing BeautyThis beautiful former village of fishermen and farmers has become the touristic hotspot of the island. With only around 16,500 inhabitants during the pre-season months of May and June, and the later months of September and October, it’s perfect for couples to enjoy the new promenade, the safe, shallow waters of the bay and the fantastic beaches, which are just a short ferry ride away.

The high season months of July, August and the beginning of September is the best time to come if you are in your late teens and early twenties looking for buzzing nightlife and the most beautiful sunsets you can imagine. San Antonio is home to the world famous Café del Mar where Chill Out music was born, and from here you can get to some of the most stunning beaches of the island, like Cala Conta and Cala Bassa, which are only 10 minutes outside the town.

Santa EulaliaThe Silent SecretThis small town of only 8,000 inhabitants is known for its quiet atmosphere. Its beautiful seafront promenade is right in the city centre. It runs the length of the wide, curved beach, adorned with palm trees, miniature gardens and a large fountain facing the sea. Here you will also find the only river in the Balearics running into the sea. A pretty, peaceful river-walk meanders up to the Roman bridge which has now been carefully restored. Midway, a footbridge spanning the river gives onto another pretty, paved walkway leading to the little beach of Cala de S’Alga in the neighborhood of Siesta with its small-village atmosphere.

Your Spanish studies at the schoolEvery student has individual learning goals and distinctive ways of studying a language, therefore they also have different needs. We are well aware of this fact. At the Instituto de idiomas Ibiza we make sure that everyone gets the opportunity to reach his or her personal goals and that they benefit as much as possible from the course.

Each week you will have two different teachers. They will rotate every day so you will be exposed to two different ways of speaking and working.

A level test at the beginning of your course ensures that we place you in the right group at the right level. Each Thursday a progression test takes place to make sure that students have understood and are able to use the contents learned during the week. It shows you exactly the status of your development and gives you and the teacher the opportunity to continue, or revise, in the best way possible.

“My two weeks in the Instituto were an incredible holiday. The atmosphere was always friendly, familiar and happy. All the teachers were professional. They helped and explained every problem I had with the language. In my opinion they always made the classes interesting and unique. After a few days on the course I felt very secure with the language and practiced it with my friends from school on this magical island. I recommend it without a doubt! ”

General Spanish with 2 rotating teachers per group. Each teacher teaches one block of 2 lessons. This way students never get used to only one teacher and they hear different accents; the experience is more intensive and gives better results. The intensive course consists of 4 general Spanish lessons each day and is offered at all levels. It focuses on communication, covering the skills of speaking reading, writing and listening.

This course adds 1 daily conversation class to the Intensive Course of 20 lessons. It is especially popular with those students who wish to further develop their fluency. As these additional lessons take place in groups with different but similar language levels, they are very close to real speaking situations.

“I had a great time here in Ibiza. Liliana has been an awesome host, she was always nice to us and if we ever needed anything we just had to ask for it.

I met new friends and enjoyed the nightlife as well as the various beaches I’ve been to. School was great too, all the teachers were caring and nice.

I absolutely recommend Ibiza, although it’s quite expensive, it’s totally worth the money!

Thanks again to everyone!”

Here you will experience directly how the Spaniards organize their daily lives. All our host families are within a 1-15 minutes walking distance from the school. Host families may be found in many different constellations: families with father, mother and child, single mothers with children, couples without children, etc. It may be that this accommodation is a single household. The experience of the Spanish lifestyle remains the same. Unless agreed separately, you will get a single room including breakfast. Linen will be provided to you and you can use the washing machine once a week. A private bathroom and ironing service is usually not available, but it can possibly be agreed with the family. Talking to the family is exactly what makes the homestay experience particularly valuable! “My stay in Ibiza was – once again - a success. Why? Because Ibiza has everything. In the morning I went to school to learn Spanish. After that I enjoyed the sun on different beaches. In the evening we prepared delicious meals with students from the school. Following we went shopping or watched street artists perform their tricks. Every single day I spent here was unique and unforgettable. I will always remember the wonderful time here.”

Are you relocating to Ibiza or to Spain in general? Do you want to work with Spaniards maybe in your own business or at a new job?

Our cross cultural training offers you the possibility to not only learn the language but also to learn about how the Spaniards work and live in comparison to your home country. In private classes you will learn to break down cultural barriers, open horizons, develop your interpersonal skills, build trust and motivate yourself. This course is designed for your career development in Spain or with Spaniards.

“Thank you for everything! Before I started the course I didn´t speak Spanish at all.

Now I speak Spanish fluently and self-confidently – with some grammar mistakes, but I can speak Spanish! I’m very very happy!

My time in the school was the best time of my life and I’m thankful to every fantastic teacher - for their support and their lovely character.

Celia, Chus, Anna, Miriam, Maria José and Merce are incredible teachers.

Thank you very much! They were my Spanish family!”

How much does it cost?800€ per month is the recommended average amount needed for accommodation and living expenses in Ibiza.

Living costs per week in IbizaAccommodation: 300€+ in the summer, 100€+ in the winterFood: 75€+Bus passes 7 days: 15€+Entertainment: 50€+

JobsDuring the summer season, Ibiza offers many jobs in cafes, restaurants, hotels and clubs for students with a good level of Spanish. The salary can start at around 6€ per hour going up according to your abilities and experience.

If you hold an EU passport, you can work while you are in Ibiza. Students on a Visa cannot work in Spain.

Arriving by ferry is much slower, but certainly more romantic. Ferries to Ibiza leave from Barcelona, Valencia, Denia or Mallorca.

From the Ibiza airport you may take either the bus as the low-cost option, the taxi or the private airport transfer. The last being the most comfortable option.

To get around the island, you can rent a car or a scooter to explore on your own. During the summer months the public transportation system is very good and during the winter it maintains its good coverage. But however, buses operate with less frequency.

The Instituto de Idiomas Ibiza has arranged for you to have a comprehensive insurance coverage specifically designed for your stay at a very good price. The insurance covers, for example, cancellations of your stay or medical problems during your stay. Please ask us about the insurance policy.

You can travel to Ibiza either by plane or by ferry.

During the summer months from approximately March/April until October there are direct flights from almost all European airports.

During the winter months you might have to travel to a major Spanish airport like Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia or Mallorca and then take another plane or ferry to Ibiza.

“I am French and speak English and Italian.

After many schools I attended, I really want to underline this is one of the best schools I’ve been to..

Many thanks to Irene and Daniel for creating a Spanish school in Ibiza. The perfect place in Europe to learn Spanish and have fun.

I did four hours per day for five weeks, without any problem. I’ve learnt a lot of very useful things and I already consider myself a young Spanish speaker ;-).

Daniel and Irene were very kind and helpful with everything.”

William L.D., France

“I could improve my Spanish and also get in touch with local people and with many students from all over Europe. It was a great experience. The staff at the Instituto de Idiomas Ibiza are very helpful. The teachers are quite demanding but always find the right balance between high-level-classes and fun. The Instituto also organized a room in an affordable and well located apartment for me.

The balance of getting „brainfood“ during the day and beats during the night was just perfect for me.”

“Ibiza is a great island and very multifarious. I have

already done several courses at the Instituto de

Idiomas Ibiza. I am persuaded by the professionalism

of the school, that´s why I come back every year.

The teachers are patient and humorous and they

create a friendly atmosphere in which you can enjoy

studying. The classes are very practical and you can

immediately use the new knowledge outside the

school in the daily life. I have also met wonderful and

special people here, and some of them became good

friends. One thing is for sure – I will come back.”
