The current linear economic model consisting of “extracting, producing, using, and disposing” is based on having large amounts of cheap + easy-to-access: energy and resources. This model is not sustainable since it wastes reserves, pollutes, and is reaching limits of physical capacity. To ensure there is enough food, water, and prosperity in the near future, we need to switch from a linear economy to a circular economy.
The Sustainability & Circular Economy course offers participants the possibility to understand how business and society can create value by reusing and recyclingproducts. Furthermore it incites designers to come up with smart solutions and contribute to an environmental and circular future
This interdisciplinary course will begin with a comprehensive introduction of the circular economy from its core fundamentals and will end with a specialization in the sectors of energy construction, water, and waste.

The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a management tool to evaluate the environmental performance of products, goods and/or services. LCA considers the full life cycle of a product, from the extraction of resources and processing raw materials, through production, usage and recycling, to the final treatment of remaining waste.
The course offers participants the possibility of learning this technique in today’s context, as well as developping different LCA stages by using SimaPro® or GaBi software and its applications in eco-design, eco-labels, carbon and water footprints.
The overall goal of this course is to develop the participants' skills related to the potential environmental impacts’ calculation, increasing their view from the Life Cycle Thinking perspective.

This course provides an overview of the global market for environmental innovations. Through these 40 hours, the participants will understand how concepts become products, what defines them as environmental innovations and how organizations innovate.
To facilitate innovation management, various financing options and intellectual property protection strategies will be presented and assessed. In the second half of the course, market approaches and strategies formarket penetration will be studied and supported by case studies.
At the end of this course, the participants will understand international regulations and markets for environmental innovations, as well as how organizationsmanage and market new, impact-driven products towards successful market uptake.
