“For last year's words belong to last year's language, and next year's words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning.”

First of all I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Principals, Teachers and Students a very happy and prosperous new year, 2013. We have come a long way from the first edition of ‘Leap-It-Up’ in July to our first edition of the New Year. The last six months has seen a renewed level of interaction between LeapStart and our students, outside the PE classes. We have been overwhelmed by the tremendous response, support and feedback that this Newsletter has received in all the activities that we have carried out in the schools, ranging from the Race across America Quiz to the Olympic Quiz.

2012 was a big year in the sporting world with the Olympics in London, the Euro Cup in Poland-Ukraine and T20 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka being the major events amongst many more. Our efforts at all times were to keep you as informed and inter-ested about these mega events through engaging activities. We are consistently look-ing for opportunities to connect with students and provide them with a chance to learn while still having fun. 2013 is here and will bring with it a variety of new avenues and challenges as we continue to work hard and deliver the best Physical Education program in the country.

Inspiring Story from 2012:

World Cup for the Homeless:The tenth UEFA-backed Homeless World Cup took place in Mexico City, and showed how football's massive appeal can help homeless people change their lives. UEFA is one of the global partners of the competition, which features 59 teams.

The objective of the 4v4 street soccer event is to fight the exclusion suffered by the homeless and to encourage them to seek better futures, while also drawing attention to the problem of homelessness across the world. Slum Soccer, a Nagpur-based non-profit outfit that scouts for football talents amidst street children is putting together a team that would represent India in the next world cup to be held in Poland in 2013.

Since inception of HWC, 77 percent of the participants have been able to find work, housing, get an education, follow through with alcohol and drug treatment programs, and some have even gone on to become professional and semi-professional athletes and coaches. Overall, 94 percent of the participants credit the program with having made a positive impact on their lives. The WHC has already been played in 10 cities around the world and this year, the tournament will be played in Poznan, Poland

New Year Resolutions for Children:• I will try to find a sport (like basketball or soccer) or an activity (like playing tag, jumping rope, dancing, or riding my bike) that I like and do it at least three times a week.• I will always wear a helmet when bicycling.• I will limit soda and artificially flavored drinks.• I will get plenty of sleep each night so that I am rested and ready to learn and play each day.
