1. Visibility of system status: BELOW AVERAGE: PDP to BAG funnel is long, “added to bag” interstitial page takes the user away from the product page. Feedback from ForSee results vary from items removed without notification, item availability, bag not loading and other bugs/ defects.

2. Match between system and the real world: BELOW AVERAGE: There’s confusion around shipping & pickup, customers assume the delivery option before they reach main bag content. IA needs to be improved, GWP & “Bonus” gifts are not associated with items in cart.

3. User control and freedom: AVERAGE: It takes a lot of effort to navigate back to a category or product page after viewing the shopping bag. Based on industry competitive analysis, two checkout CTA’s are expected for immediate checkout.

4. Consistency and standards: AVERAGEItem names are long and complicated. Verbiage around “wallet, offers, star passes” are confusing to the customer, based on user testing. “Cart v. Bag” Industry standards now use a visual representation of “shopping cart” instead of bag. “Bag” is now commonly used as an affordance for store pickup. Multiple prices are shown on bag, if offer doesn’t apply, the total is not accurate on checkout.

5. Error prevention: BELOW AVERAGE: Error messages are not presented where they occur. Explicitly state “only one offer per order” under promos. Unavailable items have to be manually removed by customer on bag.

6. Recognition rather than recall: AVERAGEContextual visual representation of shipping & pickup in-store at an item level

7. Flexibility and efficiency of use: BELOW AVERAGE: Merged bag needs to be improved & redefined. Implement multiple checkout shortcuts from the bag page. Improve IA to remove visual noise on the page. Improve main CTA and make it stand out.

8. Aesthetic and minimalist design: BELOW AVERAGE: There’s a lot of noise and unnecessary copy regarding GWP & bonus offers. There is no typographic hierarchy under the order summary section, product details, etc. Free shipping banner, Plenti, finding a store sections are scattered in undesirable locations.

9. Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors: AVERAGEImprove messaging. Straightforward & concise.

10. Help and documentation: BELOW AVERAGE: The footer is populated by an incredible amount of irrelevant information, which makes the customer service number hard to find. Provide useful help links on the body of the bag page.

At the current state, we are doing ourselves a disservice if we can’t keep the page structure consistent, regardless of the screen size, device, etc.

• WALLET • Breakdown implementation (promo code box, signed-in,

soft signed-in) • Of all Site (Desktop/Tablet) bag sessions, an average of

35% apply an offer. This is higher than MEW, where only 18% of bag sessions apply an offer.

• For both Site & MEW, of total promo apply sessions, the majority of promo codes applied are from Guests (versus Signed In). For Site, 62% of promo apply sessions are Guest and 38% are Signed In. For MEW, 79% of sessions are Guest and 21% are Signed In.

• Of the 38% Signed In promo sessions, 66% of promo codes are applied manually, 28% are applied using the ‘Apply Offer’ button, and 6% are applied from ‘See Other Offers’.

• Of the 21% of Signed In promo session for MEW, 37% of promo codes are applied manually, 26% are applied using the ‘Apply Offer’ button, and 36% are applied from ‘See Other Offers’.

• For Signed In customers that initiate ‘See Other Offers’, MEW has a higher completion rate at 49% compared to Site at 19%.

• PLENTI • About 30% of the people who shop have

a plenti ID and of that 30%, only 12% of people are fully enrolled and can redeem points. In addition, there’s a lot of confusion about the program that may conflict with our objective.

• SITE MONETIZATION • The Site Monetization initiative is in

direct conflict to the customer’s goal (deciding if this is what I should buy) — an ad is an an unnecessary distraction to their task. Furthermore, it is in direct conflict to the business goal of engaging with the customer in order to help them make a purchase with us.

• IMPROVE IA HIERARCHY: RECOGNITION OVER RECALL To decrease cognitive load, we need to align the hierarchy of information with pages that lead to and from bag (PDP, mPDP)

• RE-ENFORCE SECURITY & TRUST This is an easy win. People are becoming more aware and concerned about privacy. 1 in 4 customers don’t make a purchase due to security concerns. We need to provide textual or visual representation to assure the customers that we protect their data at all cost.

• GET THE BASICS RIGHTIn medicine, nurses check your vitals before moving onto any other fancy tests or protocols. When cars are built, the chassis, engine and brakes are prioritized over surround sound. This is because the whole system won’t work if the foundation is wonky. We need to build the foundational functionalities properly before adding other features.

• UNDERSTAND THE USER IN EVERY MOMENT WE INTERACT WITH THEM• HEAP tracks what we don’t know, from form field tracking, user sessions, what behavior on what device, time on task, load speed vs.

time on task, etc.• Customers also use bag as a “checkpoint” (holding spot) to evaluate what they should buy. The mental model of our customer

revolve around these questions — How much does it cost? What is my final price? How can I get it? Which also implies when there’s low quantity available or out of stock. Is this the right item compared to another being considered? Can I trust this site? Did I forget anything?

• KEEP TRACK OF THE CUSTOMER’S INTERESTMerge bag can simply turn to, “browse history” so customers can see what they’ve viewed and purchased. Also wish list items showcased underneath checkout as a reminder to purchase products that they’ve shown interest in.

• SCARCITYWhen users abandon the cart, inform them when an item is almost out of stock or if it’s on sale. This can be in form of an email, highlighting the item in their bag that are in short of supply. We know that the user shows interest when adding an item to their cart/ bag. Giving information regarding availability influences the user to take action.
