Research Seminar
Sustainability-Led Design through Building Information Thursday, 28 May 2015 I 10.00am
Auditorium, Surveying Block,
Faculty of Built Environment, Un
This research collaboration aims to achieve sustainability
(re)design existing non-domestic buildings using BIM.
buildings can be scanned using 3D laser scanners and material
information captured using hyperspectral imaging. The
marriage of both technologies will produce an accurate BIM
model for the existing building -
industry [on-going research]. Not reinventing the wheel, this
research will utilise existing database of BIM objects (UK
National BIM Library) - and add environmental data to
support intelligent assessment of environmental schemes.
Designers now can design with sustainab
criteria using current BIM compliant software with models
containing sustainability data (eg. energy consumption,
lifecycle timeline, etc.). It is with such intelligence that will
allow designers to make simulations of energy consumpt
potential carbon emissions and materials embodied energy.
This will also provide the optimal platform for digital,
innovation and creativity within the built environment
industry, and beyond.
