Institute Panel Overview: Beginning in 2009, the United States made unprecedented investments in grid modernization that have driven a more than 50 percent penetration of smart meters in the market. From 2015 to 2016, global smart meter deployment grew by 61 percent. Growth is expected to continue to rise and become an almost $20 billion global market. India has further begun to roll-out smart metering in the country. This panel will discuss lessons learned in the United States and India. It will touch on concrete examples of the value of AMI, best practices for consumer engagement, financing models for meter deployment, and role of interoperability.
