DESCRIPTION

Leading in Mining™ is CIM's flagship development program, designed specifically for mining, materials and minerals industry professionals at every level. Unlike other leadership programs, Leading in Mining™ is not facilitator-centric so your growth and development does not end when the program does. The skills and tools you will acquire and the relationships you will build over the course of our one-year program ensure you reach your full leadership potential. This is not your typical one-size-fits-all program. With a strong focus on self-awareness, you will become a more efficient leader, able to adapt to varying situations with ease.

What makesLeading in Miningunique? The LEADING IN MINING CIM Leadership DevelopmentProgram is unlike any other: four combined elementsmake it unique and incredibly effective.

One industry: learning more

about the industry

Different organizations:freedom to

speak openly

Hierarchical mix: new appreciation and awareness

Action, not justknowledge

LEADING IN MINING is a program for all management levels and positions from themining, minerals and materials industry. Participants share solutions, targeting industry-specific leadership challenges. For example, the CIM program brings minesuperintendents together with investor relations professionals, effectively broadening theirknowledge of the entire industry and gaining a better understanding of all aspects of theindustry.

LEADING IN MINING is a program for people from different organizations. Whileeffective leaders must freely state their views in a way that can be heard, participants inmany in-house leadership programs are cautious in how they choose to share andchallenge other’s views. This is avoided in this program, which allows participants toengage fully unencumbered by the politics of the organization. This in turn leads to a morevigorous exploration of issues, significantly enhances skill development and ultimatelyresults in the development of confidence and skill in speaking one’s truth.

Regardless of one’s level in the hierarchy, all leaders need to effectively interact with others.Yet most leadership programs are designed solely for those at the same level ofresponsibility despite the fact we know leadership is non-hierarchical; we need leaders atevery level.

In LEADING IN MINING, experienced directors value the opportunity to explore theirleadership skills alongside superintendents for whom it is their first experience of reflectingon their leadership skills, with unique and powerful results. Participants from varioushierarchical levels learn about environments they are unaware of or have lost touch with, and gain a new appreciation of those at other levels. The CIM leadership developmentprogram breaks down hierarchical barriers.

Every 15 to 30 seconds, employees will subconsciously discard knowledge that isunnecessary for meeting their day-to-day work requirements. Therefore leadership skillsthat cannot be immediately applied to an leaders’ job role will likely be forgotten beforethey have an opportunity to be used. This explains why only 27% of participants in otherleadership programs find their programs to be effective. LEADING IN MINING isdifferent. As participants acquire new information, so they have to apply it – now, not manymonths or years in the future.
