Humble beginning in 1940 by a hawker name of

Mydin Mohamed.

Involved in selling merchandise and toys to

customers in Georgetown.



History of MYDIN

Its a small family business run by his father, Gulam Husein bin Jamal, an

immigrant settling in Penang.

After it was bombed & burnt during the war, Mr Mydin moved to Kelanta

very first shop in the same year the country achieved its independence, 19

MYDIN third branch opened in Jalan Masjid India, Kuala

Lumpur in 1989.

Was the critical move and kick start of a leaders heart and

soul into entrepreneurial world to prove MYDIN

determination against larger retailer in the growing

metropolis beyond its familiar background of the east coast

of Malaysia.



An emotional return of Mr Mydins prodigal son, Datuk Ameer Ali who h

any interest in the family business back into the family fold but had carve

himself in the banking industry all these while.

Initially did not get his fathers blessing on his decision to expand the busi

first day at job with Arab Malaysian Merchant Bank (now known as

Promoted from Bank Officer to a Bank Manager in 1982.

He once rescued his stranded staff in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Risking his own life just because to go to ensure the safety of his staff. He w

killed or kidnapped.

6 of his employees were in Nepal when the country declared a state of curfe

emergency, when the king dismissed his Prime Minister and took full contr

army. All media and communications were cut off. The only news one can g

news on television. He boarded the Thai Airways, the only airlines allowed

first flight to rescue the stranded workers. Nobody was escorting him, not e

bracing the dangerous situation.
