Why should the work stop while Ileave it and go down to you?

Four times they sent me the same

If the enemy can distract Gods people,then he has won; if we can start

majoring on minors, and minoring on

majors, weve lost our effectiveness for

the work of the LORD.

Nehemiah was persistent in his

discernment; the request came fourtimes, and each time Nehemiah stood

fast and didnt fall for it.

go down to you? Discernmentgave Nehemiah focus; he knew

what God wanted him to be doing

and he did it. He wouldnt besidetracked by things that

sounded good, but werent of the

LORD for him.

Jerusalem. He completed the

project in just 52 days -Nehemiah 6:15

but we cant overlook the factthat the project did not go

smoothly.

From the very start Nehemiah

faced severeopposition.

They were angry that the work was

going on!

When it was clear that progress was

being made, it enraged the enemiesfurther. They did not want hard

evidence that they were wrong.

Opposition by Exhaustion- Nehemiah 4:10-12

The work itself was hard, taxing the

strength of those doing the work. Butthe added pressure of knowing that

they could be attacked at any moment

was getting to them. Worse, there was

no telling from which direction the

attack would come.

external. Too often the greater enemy

Nehemiahs enemies the work was nearlydone, so they sought subterfuge. Lets get

together and talk.

Nehemiahs answer - Nehemiah 6:3-4There wasnt anything to talk about.

To give credence to the request would

mean they had something to

offer.

At best, it would take time away from

the labor. At worse, it was

a trap.

There are innumerable time

wasters in the world

personal. Either you meet with us

or well tell everyone that you areplanning to rebel against the king

and have people saying you will

be king.

A man was hired to get Nehemiah into a

compromising position. He tried to get

Nehemiah to think someone was about to

assassinate him, so he should take refuge in

the temple.

He even had someone issue a prophecy

regarding the attempt.

around Jerusalem right? No, only

chapters 1-6 are about that.

The people existed for the wall in those

first few chapters. They gave their time,

talents, and treasures to make ithappen.

But the remaining chapters show the wall

existing for the people. It's not about

the wall, but about what goes on insidethe wall.

The city was in ruins. They had a wall to

prevent invasion, but inside is rubble,

and they are supposed to live andworship there. But they had a grand

vision of what it could be once again
