special notes....The upper, two-color portion of this scarf is worked with simple short rows. When you turn mid-row and work back in the opposite direction, a gap is formed between the stitches at the point where you turned. This gap will be quite obvious.

The pattern will instruct you to work “until 1 st before the turn”. Watch for the gap and stop 1 st before the gap (or turn). The K2tog or SSK that follows will be worked with the sts on each side of the gap, closing up any hole that will otherwise appear when turning mid-point in the row.

instructions....With larger needle and main color, cast on 340 stitches.

Row 1 Sl1, *P6, K2, P6, K1, YO, SSK, K1; repeat from * until 15 sts remain, P6, K2, P7.

Row 2 (rsr) Sl1, K6, P2, K6, *P1, YO, P2tog, P1, K6, P2, K6; repeat from * until 1 st remains, K1.

Repeat rows 1 & 2 until piece measures 4”, ending with row 1 complete.

Change to smaller needle.Work 2 rows as follows: Sl1, knit across.Next row: (rsr) Sl1, K 190, turn;Next row: K42, turn;

**Change to contrast color, do not cut yarn:Knit until 1 st before turn, SSK, K3, turn;Knit until 1 st before turn, K2tog, K3, turn;
