C.V.B. valvole industriali S.r.l. is an Italian leading manufacturing company located at 25 Km. north of Milan and
established in 2004 to provide top quality metal to metal triple offsets torque seated quarter turn valve solution
to the Oil and Gas Market. Although their relatively newly built story as Company they can present a thirty year
experience in the Valve Market due to both their management and employees consolidated presence either in the
Industrial and Petrochemical Valve Markets. During these years C.V.B. s.r.l. have performed a constant growth

Butterfly valve is the most efficient and cost effective system for controlling fluids flow in large diameter pipe
lines.
CVB Series LD Butterffly Valve allows tight shut-off in both directions while providing a very simple design.
They have been supplied since many years in a various different type of applications, such:
• Large diameter water pipelines
• Desalination Plants
• Thermal Power Plants
• Geathermal Power Plants
• Nuclear Power Plants
The main features are:
• Seal located on the disc; easy replaceable without disassemblembling the valve and, even for the large
diameters, without removing the valve from the pipe.
• Seal is continous through 360 degrees, not interrupted by the shaft.
• Double eccentricity which assures long life to the seal as it minimizes rubbing and eliminates seal to seat
contact in the open position ( see Fig 1 )
• Adjustable seal compression is obtained by means of an adjustable seal retaining ring.
• ON-OFF or Control services.

BODY
• Flanged type, normally supplied in ductile iron, cast or fabricated steel.
For corrosive service the body can be made in stainless steel, aluminium bronze, special alloy or internally
coated with vulcanized rubber or epoxy resin.
The internal surface of the body can also be nickel plated.
If the body material is stainless steel or aluminium bronze the seat is integral with the body and made of the
same material.
The body can be supplied with bolted or integral supporting legs as optional features.
DISC
• Normally made of the same body material as it is not a seal surface. Disc can be supplied with either the same
body coating or treatment. The edge of the disc is machinel to accept the seal ring.
The disc is designed for the maximum differential pressure at closet valve position. Disc shape keeps the
working stress well within the elastic limit of the material used and these stresses are uniformly distributed.
SEAL RING
• Is clamped to the disc by means of an adjustable retaining ring which has a special cross section designed
to prevent seal extrusion or blowout even in the presence of high differential pressures.
Made of Buna/EPDM with internal metallic support ring which ensures geometric and dimensional stability as
well as easy replacement without using tools in the event of accidental breakage.
SHAFT
• Is a stub shaft design made of high strength stainless steel. Each stub shaft is inserted into the hub of the
disc a minimum of one and half times the shaft diameter ( for heavy duty service the shaft is made in one
piece of solid material )
The shaft is coupled to the disc with taper pins locked by safety nuts. Taper pins assure stiffness to the
connection and prevent loosening. Either shaft and pins are amply designed and oversized for the required
torque at the full rated differential pressure.
BEARINGS
• Internal parts, disc and shaft, are supported by bearings placed in the body hubs. Standard construction
design with self lubricating sintered bronze bearings which allows for a low friction coefficient.
Other bearing materials such as hardened stainless steels are available.
Thanks to the low specific load level, high corrosion resistance and the good lubrification, the bearings have a
very long operative life also in critical conditions.
Bearings have a protection ring on the shaft consisting of O-Rings and special PTFE rings which avoid solid
particles inclusions ( such as sand or impurities ).

With valves completely open the flow capacity is
expressed by the numerical coefficient CV shown in the
following table. Fig. 2 graph shows the percentage of
CV at every intermediate angle between 0 and 90 °.
CV represents the rate of flow of water in U.S. gallons
which passes through the valve giving a pressure loss
of 1 psi. at 60 degrees °F. KV is the same coefficient
using metric unit measurement, and represents the
rate of flow measured in m3/h which passes through
the valve creating a pressure loss of 1 Kg/cm2 at 15°C.
The corrispondence between the two formulas is:
• CV = 1,17 x KV
• Using metric unit measurement

d = density -( water = 1 ) Kg/dm3
Corrective factor for viscous liquids f
For viscous liquids multiply calculated CV values
by the corrective factors ( f ) shown on the left

1.0 GENERAL
• Thnk you on having bought CVB valves. We assure you the performance shown in this
catalogue. However proper storage, neat installation, gentle operation and a timely
maintenance enhances valve performance and life.
• Upon delivery, inspect the valve for any shipping damage.
• As per the packing slip placed inside the box, verify the goods received. Items pace loose
within the box are separately identified in the packing slip. Check for short supply if any.
2.0 STORAGE
• Store all valves duly covered by plastic bags until installation.
• CAUTION: avoid possible entry of any foreign particles such as dirt, mud, sand, etc. into
the valve and actuators in order to protect the valve seat and actuator mechanism.
• If the storage or service requirement is delayed beyond 6 months, then clean the valve
seat and disc sealing edge by silicon emulsion and operate the valve 3 or 5 times, from
open to close position and keep the valve in slightly open position before installation.
3.0 INSTALLATION
• Valve may be installed in any position - horizontal, vertical or any angle and for in either
direction.
• Ensure that specification mentioned over the name plate are in line with requirements as
regards to valve size, material of construction, working pressure and temperature
• Alignment and proper supports for the piping are essential to prevent stresses in the
Valve.
• CAUTION: Ensure to blow-out or flush-out from the pipeline thorouhgly before the
installation.
• Ensure that the valve is freely accessibile to the operator and sufficient head room is
available for operation.
4.0 OPERATION
• Operate the valve slowly from “ close “ to “ open “ position and ensure free movement
( clockwise-close ) if disc is touching to pipe ID, it indicates that valve is not properly
mounted in line with the pipe centerline. Adjust the valve till operates freely.
• Ensure valve clamping between pipeline flanges are properly clamped, tightened in full
quantity.

5.0 MAINTENANCE
• Periodically inspect conditions of external valve parts. Replace the parts showing excessive
wear/corrosion.
• If it is found that valves are leaking in closed position then replace the elastomer seal ring with
a new one. For repleacement of the seal ring, follow the procedure given below
6.0 SEAL REPLACEMENT:
. Remove the pressure from the pipeline and drain it completely.
. Remove the valve from the pipeline ( applicable for small diameters ). Ensure the valve
is in closed position prior the removal of the valve from pipeline.
. Keep the valve in open position and unsrew the seal retainer screws, remove the worn
out/damaged seal ring
. Clean the seal ring clamping area in the disc thoroughly..
. Place the new seal ring and fix the seal retainer to the disc with screws untightened.
. Clean the valve properly.
. Tighten then all the seal retainer screws.
. Close the valve and reinstall it on the pipeline. For large diameter valves the above
substitution can be done without removing the valve from the pipeline.
7.0 STEM SEAL O-RINGS REPLACEMENT
. When it is found a leakage from upper stem, it is time to change stem seal o-rings.
. Remove the pressure from the pipeline and drain it completely.
. Remove the valve from the pipeline ( applicable for small diameters ). Ensure the valve
is in closed position prior the removal of the valve from pipeline.
. Remove the actuator from the valve top flange.
. Remove the bearings with their protection o-rings.
. Clean either the bearing housings in the shaft and the o-ring housing in the bearings.
. Replace o-rings with new ones and reverse the disassembly procedure to reassemble
the valve and then the operator.
• Ensure that all components are properly assembled and all screws are properly tightened.
Re– install the valve
