God Wants To Be Known

The Old Testament reading from Deuteronomy praises God for inscribing the commandments in our very bodies. God’s law is not distant or foreign, but a natural part of us. In his letter to the Colossians, Saint Paul echoes Moses, praising God for becoming one of us. The truly human, flesh-and-blood Jesus reminds us that God always wants to be recognizable and familiar to us. Jesus, who is also truly God, wants to be on intimate terms with each of us. God’s passionate desire to be known by us is almost too wonderful to take in. Luke’s Gospel helps us understand how to respond. The Good Samaritan parable provides practical advice for those who believe in God’s intimate love for them and want to share that love with others. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Sunday, July 14, 2019 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus:

Greetings! Praying to God for blessings upon your families and homes, may the tenderness and love of the Blessed Virgin Mary be with you.

All persons who have faith try to live in the best possible way, and also give testimony of their faith when needed in special circumstances, by being more visible and present. And it is because we are seeking to reach the final place Jesus has promised us, the Kingdom of God the Father, and it is not only to follow our faith as a religion or to have good thoughts, but also to have good deeds in life.

Many people in Jesus' time thought that only by following the rituals of the temple and having good thoughts was pleasing to God, and often did not meet the needs of the people or express the charity they should have to their relatives or neighbors.

A man maliciously approaches Jesus to test Him and asks, “What must I do to obtain eternal life?” Jesus realizes that this is a man who knows everything that concerns the law of God - he knows and can recite one by one the ten commandments. Jesus asks, “What is written in the law and how do you read it?” (Luke 10:25-37). It reminds us of the deep love from the bottom of our hearts we have for God and how important it is to love our neighbors, for if we love God we cannot despise anyone, nor should we ignore anyone.

We cannot please God if we do not have a relationship with our fellow human beings. It is important to show and have charity, especially with the most vulnerable in our society, the sick, the poor, or the marginalized who require our loving attention; we must look into them to see the face of Christ, to guide and help the young people and children who run the risk of disorienting their lives, to help them feel guided and accompanied with respect and understanding. Many times we use the pretext of time as an excuse not to help, but if we really want to fulfill the will of God, we have to organize our time. We have to improve our relationships, make better choices in our words and value the opportunity we have to serve. We must give of ourselves to those who may not have anyone by their side and require some attention - it may be a son or daughter, a family member we have neglected or forgotten, a sick neighbor, or maybe friends with whom we have had a falling out and have stopped talking to who are in need of our prayers.

True faith requires a communion with God and our neighbors; although it sometimes gets hurt, we must never close our hearts to the compassion and grace of God. We can always give a little of ourselves in any environment, whether in the family, in the work place, in the parochial community, or in the circle of friendships, and although it takes a lot from us, we must remember to always have a kind smile, full of hope. And let us say: 'For being faithful, I will contemplate your face, Lord, and when I wake up, I hope to be satisfied with your glory' (Deuteronomy 30: 10-14).

For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control. So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord, nor of me, a prisoner for His sake;

but bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God.

The leader is the visible sign of authority. The leader has to be mindful of his or her mission to command, to exercise authority and enable others to respect that authority. This is what is meant by serving people.

The greatest failure in leadership is for the leader to be afraid to speak and act as a leader.

Welcome all opinions, but do not depend only on opinions.

Bring all the faculties of your mind to bear on making a decision, then make it bravely and at the opportune moment. Countless opinions without a decision are useless. A true leader is one who has a few ideas which are carried out to completion.

Know what you want and desire it wholeheartedly. If you lack firm conviction, you will paralyze your co-workers. If you allow each of your co-worker the freedom to make the final decisions, you will breed chaos.

Chúa nhật, ngày 14 tháng 07 năm 2019 Anh Chị em thân mến trong Chúa Giêsu, Kính chào quý Ông Bà và Anh chị em trong Chúa Giêsu Kytô,

Nguyện xin Thiên Chúa ban tràn đầy ân lành xuống trên mọi nhà, mọi gia đình và xin tình yêu cùng sự êm ái dịu dàng của Đức Trinh Nữ Maria Mẹ đầy ơn phúc ở cùng quý Ông Bà và Anh chị em.

Tất cả những ai có đức tin đều cố gắng sống tốt lành, sẵn sàng làm nhân chứng về đức tin của mình khi cần đến trong những trường hợp cụ thể, rõ ràng và dễ thấy. Đó là vì chúng ta đang tìm cách đạt đến điểm đích cuối cùng mà Chúa Giêsu đã hứa với chúng ta, Vương quốc của Thiên Chúa Cha và không phải chỉ bằng cách tuân giữ những điều mà đức tin tôn giáo đề ra hay bằng những suy nghĩ thiện hảo thôi, mà còn phải làm những việc lành thánh trong đời sống hàng ngày nữa.

Nhiều người trong thời Chúa Giêsu nghĩ rằng họ chỉ cần tuân giữ các nghi lễ ở đền thờ và chỉ cần có những ý nghĩ hướng thiện là đã làm đẹp lòng Thiên Chúa rồi và thường họ quên không đáp ứng được nhu cầu của người dân, hoặc làm điều bác ái cho bà con họ hàng hay cho anh em xung quanh.

Một người có tâm ý đến gần Chúa Giêsu để thử Ngài mà hỏi: “Tôi phải làm gì để có được sự sống đời đời?” Khi Chúa Giêsu nhận thấy ông là một người thông hiểu tất cả mọi luật pháp của Chúa, là người nhớ nằm lòng mười điều răn, Chúa Giê-su hỏi: “Trong Luật đã viết gì? Ông đọc thế nào?” (Lu-ca 10: 25-37). Điều này nhắc nhở chúng ta về tình yêu sâu tận đáy lòng mà chúng ta dành cho Thiên Chúa và cho tha nhân quan trọng như thế nào, bởi vì nếu chúng ta yêu Chúa, chúng ta không thể coi thường bất cứ ai, và chúng ta cũng không thể bỏ qua bất cứ người nào.

Chúng ta không thể nào làm hài lòng Thiên Chúa nếu chúng ta không chịu xây dựng mối tương quan với đồng loại. Thể hiện lòng từ tâm và bác ái với người khác là một điều quan trọng, đặc biệt là với những ai dễ bị tổn thương nhất trong xã hội - người bệnh, người nghèo, người yếu thế cần đến sự quan tâm yêu mến của chúng ta, chúng ta phải nhìn thấy được khuôn mặt của Chúa Kitô nơi họ, cần hướng dẫn và giúp đỡ những thanh thiếu niên và các em nhỏ đang có nguy cơ bị mất phương hướng trong cuộc sống, giúp các em cảm thấy mình được chỉ dẫn và đồng hành với tôn trọng và thông cảm. Nhiều lúc chúng ta dùng thời gian như là một cái cớ để thoái thác việc giúp đỡ, nhưng nếu chúng ta thật sự muốn thực hiện ý muốn của Thiên Chúa, chúng ta phải hoạch định lại thời giờ của mình. Chúng ta phải cải thiện lại các mối quan hệ với anh em xung quanh, biết dùng lời lẽ lịch thiệp hơn và coi trọng những khi chúng ta được có cơ hội phục vụ người khác. Chúng ta phải hy sinh chính mình cho những ai không có người thân bên cạnh hoặc cần được quan tâm đến - đó có thể là con trai hay con gái của chúng ta, hoặc là một thành viên trong gia đình mà đã bị chúng ta bỏ bê hay quên lãng, hoặc có thể là một người hàng xóm bị bệnh, hay là bạn bè mà chúng ta đã không qua lại và ngưng giao thiệp, là những người cần lời cầu nguyện của chúng ta.

Đức tin thật sự đòi hỏi chúng ta phải có một sự hiệp thông với Thiên Chúa và anh em xung quanh, mặc dù đôi khi chúng ta cảm thấy bị tổn thương, chúng ta không nên bao giờ khoá cửa lòng mình lại trước sự từ bi và ân sủng của Thiên Chúa. Chúng ta luôn có thể cho đi một ít của chính mình trong bất kỳ môi trường nào, dù là trong gia đình, tại nơi làm việc, trong cộng đồng địa phương hay giữa các cánh bạn bè, và mặc dù chúng ta phải hy sinh thật nhiều, chúng ta cũng phải luôn nhớ nở trên đôi môi một nụ cười âu yếm, hứa hẹn nhiều hy vọng. Và chúng ta hãy nói: “Bởi hằng tín trung, con sẽ luôn suy tưởng dung nhan Ngài, Chúa ơi, và khi con tỉnh giấc, con mơ ước được diện kiến Thánh Nhan.” (Đệ Nhị Luật 30: 10-14). Nguyện xin Thiên Chúa ban cho quý Ông Bà và Anh chị em mọi điều tốt lành!

Trong cuộc sống thường ngày, ta không mong có người gặp tai nạn để giúp đỡ, nhưng những lời hỏi thăm thân tình, những quan tâm tế nhị đúng lúc sẽ là những bông hoa của tình yêu nhân hậu như Thầy Giêsu dạy.

Lạy Thầy Giêsu, giữa bộn bề của cuộc sống, con mải lo cho những bận tâm của mình nên dễ quên mất người anh em bên cạnh con đang cần được quan tâm chia sẻ. Xin cho con biết “nhín” một ít thời gian, một ít của cải, hay là chỉ là những quan tâm nho nhỏ để con học từ Thầy bài học: Hãy dám làm chứ đừng chỉ dám nói.

phiên điều trần Dự luật SB-360 (liên quan đến Dấu ấn Tòa Giải Tội) tại Ủy ban An toàn Công cộng của Hội đồng California, Thượng nghị sĩ Tiểu bang Jerry Hill đã rút lại đơn của ông.

Nhân dịp này, Đức Cha Oscar Cantú muốn gửi lời cảm ơn đến tất cả các Giáo dân đã lên tiếng trước các Đại diện Hội đồng để phản đối về Dự luật này, vì nó vi phạm đến tự do tín ngưỡng của chúng ta. Đức Giám Mục nói, “Các Linh mục trong Giáo phận và tôi rất biết ơn Quý vị vì chúng tôi sẽ không phải chịu sự truy tố của pháp luật về sự trung thành của chúng tôi đối với Bí tích Giải tội, một Dấu ấn rất linh thiêng và không bao giờ bị phá đổ.”

Domingo 14 de julio, 2019 Estimados Hermanos y hermanas en Cristo Jesús:

Un saludo pidiendo a Dios bendiga su vida y sus hogares, y que la Vírgen María les acompañe con su ternura y amor.

Toda persona que tiene fe intenta vivir de la mejor manera posible, y también en cuanto puede dar testimonio de esa fe que pide especialmente en circunstancias especiales, ser más visible y brillante. Y esto es porque finalmente buscamos llegar al lugar que Jesús nos ha prometido y es el Reino del Padre y la fe no es solo seguir una religión o un buen pensamiento sino una acción de vida.

Muchas personas en tiempo de Jesús pensaban que solo con atender a los ritos del templo y pensar bien hacían lo que es agradable a Dios, y frecuentemente muchas veces no atendían las necesidades de las personas ni la caridad que debían expresar en sus familiares o vecinos.

Por eso cuando maliciosamente un hombre se acerca para ponerlo a prueba y le pregunta ¿Qué debo hacer para conseguir la vida eterna? Jesús se da cuenta que es un hombre que conoce todo lo que concierne a la ley de Dios, conoce y puede recitar uno por uno los 10 mandamientos, es por eso que le pregunta ¿Qué dice la ley y que lees en ella? (Lucas 10:25-37). Y nos recuerda a todo el amor profundo a Dios desde el fondo de nuestro corazón y el amor al prójimo es muy importante, que si amamos a Dios no podemos despreciar a nadie, ni debemos ignorar a nadie.

No podemos agradar a Dios si dejamos la relación con nuestros semejantes, es importante la caridad, especialmente con los más vulnerables de nuestra sociedad. Los enfermos, los pobres, o marginados requieren de nuestra atención amorosa, mirando en ellos el rostro de Cristo. La orientación y ayuda a jóvenes y niños que corren el riesgo de desorientar su vida, de ser acompañados con respeto y comprensión. Muchas veces ponemos el pretexto del tiempo, pero si realmente queremos cumplir la voluntad de Dios, tenemos que organizar nuestro tiempo, tenemos que mejorar nuestro trato, elegir mejor nuestras palabras y valorar la oportunidad que tenemos de servir, de dar algo de nosotros a quien quizá no tiene a nadie a su lado y requiere de alguna atención y puede ser un hijo o hija, algún familiar que tenemos olvidado, o algún vecino enfermo, quizá amigos que nos fallaron algún día y les dejamos de hablar y requieren de nuestra oración.

La verdadera fe requiere de una comunión con Dios y con el prójimo, que nuestro corazón, aunque lastimado a veces nunca se cierre a la compasión y la gracia de Dios, que siempre podamos dar un poco, en cualquier ambiente ya sea en la familia, en el trabajo, en el ámbito parroquial, en el círculo de amistades y siempre tengamos, aunque nos cueste un poco dar ese paso una sonrisa amable y llena de esperanza. Y digamos: ‘Por serte fiel, yo contemplaré tu rostro, Señor, y al despertar, espero saciarme de tu gloria.’ (Deuteronomio 30: 10-14).

El Deseo de Dios Para Ser Conocido

La lectura del Antiguo Testamento del libro del Deuteronomio alaba a Dios por escribir los mandamientos en nuestros cuerpos. La ley de Dios no es extraña o distante, sino una parte natural de nosotros. En su carta a los colosenses, san Pablo hace eco de Moisés, alabando a Dios por ser uno de nosotros. Él, verdaderamente humano, de carne y hueso, Jesús nos recuerda que Dios siempre quiere ser para nosotros alguien familiar al quien podemos reconocer, el que es verdadero Dios, quiere estar en buenos términos con cada uno de nosotros. El deseo apasionado de Dios para ser conocido por nosotros es tan maravilloso para disfrutarse. El Evangelio de Lucas nos ayuda a entender cómo responder. La parábola del Buen Samaritano nos provee de consejos prácticos para quienes creen en la intimidad del amor de Dios para ellos y quiere compartir ese amor con otros. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Tradiciones de Nuestra Fe

Desde 1913, en la ciudad de Puntarenas, Costa Rica, la Virgen del Carmen es reconocida como la Virgen del Mar. En aquel año un barco llamado el Galileo naufraga en una tempestad y el pueblo angustiado por sus seres queridos recurrió al templo de la Virgen para pedir auxilio. Algunos días después todos los tripulantes fueron rescatados y llevados a Puntarenas. Según los tripulantes, mientras las lluvias y vientos amenazaban al Galileo una mujer los animó a que se echasen al agua y nadaran a tierra firme. Allí ella los alimentó y los acompañó hasta que fueron rescatados. Llenos de alegría, el pueblo llevó a los rescatados a la iglesia para dar gracias. Estos reconocieron a la Virgen del Carmen como la mujer que los había ayudado. Desde entonces el sábado más cercano al 16 de julio, el pueblo celebra en grande la fiesta del Carmen con grandes desfiles de barcos y yates. Entre música y fuegos artificiales los costarricenses vienen en embarcaciones adornadas desde toda la nación a celebrar con la Virgen del Mar que también se encuentra en una embarcación. —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. Invitamos a la comunidad a compartir con el Grupo de Oración Resurrección y Vida todos los miércoles a partir de las 7:00 pm en la iglesia. Nos reunimos para aprender más de la palabra, dar gracias a nuestro Padre Dios por las maravillas que hace, venimos a ofrecerle alabanzas y también tenemos conferencistas que los invitamos a darnos testimonios de fe, esperanza y caridad.

Escuche el llamado de Jesús y venga a adorarle y glorificarle.

Oración Vírgen del Monte Carmelo

Desbordo de gozo con el Señor y me alegro con Dios, mi Salvador,

porque me ha dado por Madre, a Su Madre,

Reina y Flor del Carmelo.

Señora, tráeme a tu Monte Santo y alégrame en tu casa de oración.

Condúceme, Vírgen María, a la Tierra del Carmelo, para que pueda comer

sus mejores frutos.

Madre, que tu blanca sombra invisible acompañe mis pasos,

llevándome hacia Cristo, mi origen y meta.

Madre, que siempre me mantenga unido a tí con lazos irrompibles,

practicando seriamente las virtudes.

Ave Maria...

El Carmelo era sin duda, el monte donde numerosos profetas rindieron culto a Dios. Los principales fueron Elías y su discípulo Eliseo, pero existían también diferentes personas que se retiraban en las cuevas de la montaña para seguir una vida eremítica. Esta forma de oración, de penitencia y de austeridad fue continuada siglos más tarde, concretamente en el III y IV, por hombres cristianos que siguieron el modelo de Jesucristo y que de alguna forma tuvieron al mismo Elías como patrón situándose en el valle llamado Wadi-es-Siah.

A mediados del siglo XII, un grupo de devotos de Tierra Santa procedentes de Occidente -algunos creen que venían de Italia-, decidieron instalarse en el mismo valle que sus antecesores y escogieron como patrona a la Virgen María. Allí construyeron la primera iglesia dedicada a Santa María del Monte Carmelo. Desde su monasterio no quisieron crear una nueva forma de culto mariano, ni tampoco, el título de la advocación, respondía a una imagen en especial.

Quisieron vivir bajo los aspectos marianos que salían refleja-dos en los textos evangélicos: maternidad divina, virginidad, inmaculada concepción y anunciación. Estos devotos que decidieron vivir en comunidad bajo la oración y la pobreza, fueron la cuna de la Orden de los Carmelitas, y su devoción a la Virgen permitió que naciera una nueva advocación: Nuestra Señora del Carmen.

Statement from Bishop Oscar Cantú and the Diocese of San Jose

The Diocese of San Jose has learned that State Senator Jerry Hill has withdrawn his bill, SB 360, regarding the Seal of Confession, from the California Assembly Public Safety Commi ee, just a day before its scheduled hearings.

I want to thank the many parishioners who made their voices heard to their Assembly representa ves in opposi on to SB 360, as it violates the free prac ce of our faith. Our priests and I are grateful that we do not have to be subject to prosecu on by law for being faithful to the privacy of Confession. The Seal of Confession is sacred and should not be broken.

There is strong evidence that training priests, teachers, staff, parents, and children to recognize suspicious behavior, report any and all instances of abuse and neglect, and priori ze the safety of children is resul ng in the drama c increase of safe spaces for children and families.

The Church in San Jose con nues to be vigilant in crea ng an environment which is safe and nurturing for all. The repor ng requirements and protec ons for clergy members are already iden cal to the requirements and protec ons for other mandated reporters, except for the provision exemp ng informa on acquired during a Confession.

The Diocese of San Jose conducts background checks and requires recer fica on training every three years for diocesan bishops, priests, deacons, employees, and volunteers. Since 2002, approximately 52,500 adults in the Diocese have been trained to recognize and report child abuse. Working together to be vigilant and keep children safe, our Catholic community is commi ed to crea ng a safe environment for all children and families.
