Stanground School Times Lion King Visit a Roaring Success

Kyra Murthwaite-Bedding

On Wednesday 15th June 2011, pupils in year 6 from Langtoft Primary school and Stanground St Johns primary school went to go see the internationally acclaimed, award winning Lion King West End Show at the Lyceum Theatre, London. The two schools went towatch the show, as an end of year

treat which but the show also linked in with SSJs topic Wish You Were

Here which is about Africa.

This show originated in 1997on Broadway, opening on the 13thNovember. The show has been seenby over 50 million people around the

world and has has also played over30,000 performances! In additionto this it has won over 70 majorinternational theatre awards.

The children set off atapproximately 10:30am and theschools were split off (in half) ontotwo buses. Half way through thebus journey they stopped off at theservices for lunch. Then they set off again and got to London for 1:30pm.

When they arrived at the Lyceumtheatre, they were escorted to theirseats, they were seated in the GrandCircle. The theatre was packed full

with eager people. Then the show started everyone was waiting to beamazed.

Chloe Butcher, age 11, stated I

really liked it, it was very bright andcolourful, and just an extraordinary experience!

The rst half of the show wasfantastic it left everyone applauding.

The costumes were spectacular, how they made the animals look very realistic! It was brilliant how they

were able to create the costumesin so much detail like the Giraffe,Elephants.

Mr Doud, the year 6 teacherfrom SSJ, stated I thought it was a

wonderful show and a fantastic treatfor the year 6s.

After a long fun lled day the twoschools, left London. To return back to their schools. The whole day was agreat experience for them!

Stanground School Times Viva Stanground!

Its been a great year - perhaps one

of the best ever. We have all had to

work hard with the SATS exams and

for many the 11 plus entrance for

Belsham Grammer School. However

it has been a year full of fun too.

I n the autumn term we alltook and passed our cycling

pro ciency with ConstableNorman Harris even if Ed

and Isabella did have a minorcrash! In December we all workedhard with Mr James on a musical

production of Its a WonderfulLife starring Ben Turner asGeorge Bailey and Anna Tock asthe angelic Clara. It was a massivehit and we had our picture inthe Belsham Evening News.I n January we had some badsnowfalls and the school was shutfor three days but it didnt stop usfrom building snowmen and havingsnowball ghts. In February wehad to say a sad farewell to PierreKrause when he and his family

moved back to sunny South Africa, we will be sending him a copy of this book.

However the biggest memory of

this year has to be the summer trip toBelle Francias! For the last two yearsMiss Brand has been trying to teachus French and now we nally hada chance to use it! The trip started

with a long coach journey and ferry ride. Claire got seasick and so didone teacher who wishes to remain

nameless! The trip highlights hadto be going to the top of the Eiffel

Tower and visiting Disneyland! The Eiffel Tower was amazing;

from the top everything looked sosmall! We had to climb three hundredsteps to the rst level and then took lifts up to the second and third. Welearnt that the structure was built in1889 for the World Fair, stands at

324m tall and weighs 10, 000 tonnes!On the last day of the trip we went

to Disneyland where we met withMickey Mouse and friends and got tohave a go on the rides! The best wasSpace Mountain, although Claire wassick again!

The trip wouldnt have beencomplete without the time-honouredtop trumps competition and party on

the last night. Mr Lyle won, giving him a winning streak of 3 years;better luck to Y5, we recommend youstart practising now!
