LAYOUT TALKAre You Aware?

The World Bank has suspended $800 million worth of loans to India's health sector after detecting corruption in procurement. Fair enough: corruption should be checked. Yet, if corruption is really a no-no, the Bank should stop almost all lending to India, so widespread is corruption here. The Bank may have just discovered corruption, but it is no news at all to the public....

Top secrets leaked for MNC jobs in US? All it took was an offer of plum portfolios in United States multinational companies like Microsoft for two senior staffers of N a t i o n a l S e c u r i t y C o u n c i l Secretariat to leak top secret documents to elusive American 'diplomat' Rosanna Minchew, a Delhi police probe has revealed. Security agencies are still taking stock of the extent to which classified files have been accessed by the two accused NSCS employees.

India 83rd corrupt Nation in the Global Corruption Index, a survey of 1 3 3 n a t i o n s c o n d u c t e d b y Transparency International (an anti-graft watchdog), India stood 83rd in the world, alongside Malawi and Romania. India recorded a score of 2.8 out of 10. Last year, India's score was 2.7 out of 10, but it stood 71st in a list of 102 nations, unlike 133 this time. Finland with a score of 9.7 has been ranked first, making it the least corrupt nation on earth. A score of 10 means a country is seen as being 'highly clean', and a score of zero means 'highly corrupt. 'Bangladesh had the dubious distinction of being the world's most corrupt nation with a score of 1.3, worse even than Nigeria and Haiti, which had scores of 1.4 and 1.5, respectively to stand 132nd and 133rd. However, Asia as a whole fared badly in the report on corruption, with many nations in the region being counted amongst the worst in the world for graft among public officials and politicians. Myanmar ranked 129th and Indonesia was 122nd.

Children often are too young or inexperienced to understand that they might be experiencing eye problems that affect schoolwork. Young children with vision problems often do not know that the way they see the world is not the way everyone sees it. Various preventive screening programmes by Sankara Eye Hospital have shown vision problems to affect approximately one in 20 preschoolers. They also affect one in four school children. Though usually treatable, without early detection and treatment, children's vision problems can lead to: permanent vision loss and learning difficulties

Newborn infants should have their eyes checked preferably while still in the hospital nursery. This is especially important in premature infants and those on incubators. These children should be screened for evidence of retinal disease (ROP) and treated immediately.

Children with uncorrected vision conditions or eye health problems face many barriers in life ... academically ... socially ... and athletically. High-quality eye care can break down these barriers and help enable your children to reach their highest potential. All children, even those with no signs of trouble,

Eighty percent of all learning is performed through vision. Make sure your child has the best possible tools to learn successfully. MIND WORKS-18Hitler Went to HeavenBy Prof UK Athikkal---------

I happened to come across this fantastic statement “HITLER WENT TO HEAVEN” in the books titled “Conversations With God”, An uncommon dialogue written by Neale Donald Walsch.

It requires a great paradigm shift to understand and appreciate the concepts of this book. And this shift will take great wisdom, great c o u r a g e a n d m a s s i v e determination. Fear will strike at the heart of these concepts, and call them false. Our thought that Hitler was a monster is based on the fact he ordered the killing of millions of people, dictated by his prejudiced mind full of hatred and fear. Without getting in to the details of the author's logical concepts, we shall dwell upon our generic social thinking and judgmental processes relevant to the topic.

T h e r e i s a p o w e r f u l presupposition which can help us to create paradigm shift in our outlook to people and situations. “Underlying every behavior of every person is a positive intention”. From the doer's perspective, every action has a positive purpose behind it. The positive and negative polarities vanishes .The distinction between right and wrong or heaven and hell vanishes if we are able to correctly assimilate this perspective. Then, how do we respond to different types of behavior from different people? Behaviors are directed by the mental and emotional strategies

of the person concerned. In simple terms, the way one thinks and the way one feels or emotes determines her behavior. How is that the thoughts and feelings are different for different individuals? These differences do exist even with the members of the same family. The basic cause is differing beliefs, values and experiences of people.

Two persons A and B encounter an experience or situation. The response from A and B to this situation could be different depending on the meaning attached to this event. This interpretation of the event or perception would change if A and B are able to take the other's perspective. Therefore actions or behaviors of a person cannot be ascribed to the individual's identity. Viewed in this perspective, evaluation and judgments on behavior, perception of right and wrong and the beliefs and values followed by the individuals will be considerably divergent for no fault of the individuals. The society as such needs to take responsibility, therefore for the individual pattern o f b e h a v i o r s . E n o r m o u s responsibility rests upon parents, teachers and spiritual leaders to bring about this paradigm shift. Change can come around through positive persuasion. The change agent could be persuasion rather than coercion, conciliation rather than confrontation and love rather than fear.

The Mysteries of Asia three-part video series was originally produced for the Learning Channel. During this segment, historians and others examine temples built in India more than 1,000 years ago. They remain quite intriguing, though today's tourists rarely visit them. Records reveal that trained elephants had to drag millions of stone blocks to help erect these structures. The

program notes that due to the temples' size, the U.S. Senate, Versa i l les , the Houses of Parliament, and St. Paul's Basilica in Rome could all fit within a single one of them. Michael Bell narrates as footage and animated maps are used to help viewers learn more about what these ancient structures look like and why they were built.

Pine Island Glacier Melts FasterAccording to scientists, a major Antarctic glacier, Pine Island glacier (PIG) has passed its "tipping point" and is ready to collapse. This could raise global sea levels by 24cm. I n 2 0 0 4 , s a t e l l i t e observations showed that PIG, one of the many glaciers at the fringes of the West Antarctic ice sheet, had started to thin and that ice was flowing into the Amundsen Sea 25 per cent faster than it had 30 years before. Now, the new study found that PIG has probably passed a critical "tipping point" and is irreversibly on track to lose 50 per cent of its ice in as little as 100 years, significantly raising global sea levels. The model suggests that within 100 years, PIG's grounding line could have retreated over 200 kilometres. I like the dreams of the future

better than the history of the past.

comprise a tinge of his ideology and experience.

At his age, Ramaji is healthier than his son Pichanna who works in the Government office as an ordinary clerk for 28 years now from the day he joined as a temporary assistant. He is more of a passive character lost much of his interest in anything other than being dutiful in the office to earn his living. Probably, he inherited his mother's who routinely cooked and indulged in the household activities all along with reverence. She is no more now. She passed away at the age of 72, five years back and Ramaji hardly could digest his wife's death. However, his son, daughter-in-law, and his grandson greatly compensate his life's lost feelings.

Ramaji's grandson, Ramana, is an interesting character and very much loved by Ramaji for his attitude towards grandpa.

Grandpa Ram Babu, also known in the circle as Ramaji at the age of 86 is still in the habit of making comments about politics, election, leaders, etc as a reaction to the day-to-day television programs in front of him. In fact 'outburst' is the right word instead of 'reaction' if it had been 15 or 20 years back. His frequency of utterance has reduced to one or two in a day is the major difference that makes him more of a matured old man today. However, it is too early to say his thoughts are synchronized with the way of the world. If God wishes Ramaji to live for another 20 or 30 years, we might expect him to be in those lines of thoughts. The saddest part is that, most often Ramaji himself is the sole audience for his critical utterances that

Simple Tips for Greater HealthTo have a healthy life, we need certain things to maintain our body's internal balance. We need exercise, without this our circulatory and respiratory systems don't get the work out they need and they become weak. What and how we eat is especially important. Our body requires a balance of various foods and too long out of balance equals not feeling so good. While there are many sources that try to tell us exactly what our body needs and in one proportion it is hard to believe that every human body requires the same. The amount of food you consume, what types of foods and in what proportions is a matter of knowing your body. You know if coffee makes you feel yuck and if you don't know its easy to find out, just change the amount you drink. You can just start with recommended portions and eating patterns then make small changes to see where it takes you. Good health is as much a mater of mental, emotional and some would say spiritual balance as well as the physical. Just starting on a path to improved health is enough to feel better and encourage you to stick with it.
