JUMP START at LAWRENCE SCHOOL
Is your child bright and academicallycapable, but falling behind due to organizationaland time management struggles?
Does your child know and understandcourse information when you study withthem at home, but perform poorly on tests in theschool setting?
Would your child benefit from learninga simple, research-based method for effectivenote-taking and improving their comprehensionof written text?
Does your child have naturalleadership tendencies – but could benefitfrom hands-on activities that can turn potentialinto performance?
2 Sessions: August 3-7 + August 10-14 | 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Jump Start is for students entering grades 6-8.The program is geared towards students whomay have struggled in school during the previousyear, and who may benefit from a short-term“back-to-school readiness” program aimed at improving student skills for the upcoming academic year. Students will also make new friends and have fun engaging in hands-on leadership and communication activities.

Lawrence School has two campus locations. The LowerSchool campus in Broadview Heights serves students ingrades 1-6, while the 47-acre Upper School campusin Sagamore Hills serves students in grades 7-12. Bothlocations are central to the greater Cleveland andAkron areas.

MORNING8:00 - 11:45 a.m. – Instruction in Academic [Student] Skills
The morning sessions of Jump Start are geared toward the improvement of student skills, such as:
n Organizational Skills and Time Management, including how they relate to homework.
n Study/Test -Taking Skills for classroom-based and standardized testing situations.
n Note-Taking and Summarization Skills to improve reading comprehension using Joan Sedita’s Key Comprehension Routine.
Lunch: 11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. daily
AFTERNOON12:15 - 4:00 p.m. –Activities and Special Events Effective Leadership Academy(ELA) delivers highly sought after self-leadership skills training to students in northeast Ohio. In this Jump Start Camp, your child will engage in a fun, highly interactive, life skill based holistic experience about personal responsibility, self-empowerment, healthy behaviors, interpersonal and communication skills. In other words, the 21st Century Skills identified by educators, as essential in producing a successful individual. ELA’s mission is to help young people turn their potential into performance by developing their most valuable asset – themselves!
