Law Abiding Citizen Deconstruction

The camera shots used throughout the trailer has a very wide range and variety, this is a good example in the picture 1 due to it is one of the first shots, which is an establishing shot and it is showing the audience where it is set, which is USA New York.

The audio in ‘Law Abiding Citizen’ is very digetic and emphasis’s the very small and minuet sounds, an example of this is the ‘thumping of the man being hit’, this works well with the camera composition and this displays the whole shot, in a very successful dramatic way.

The setting, in this trailer was very authentic and realistic to the time and scene, this inhibits the viewer to have feelings towards this victim/ criminal depending on what way you look at it.

The clothing used such as in shot 3, is very atmospheric to the time of the film. Due to you can see there is 6 guards, boxing in the criminal with extreme security equipment to contain this ‘criminal’.

Props used in the trailer vary from the basic to the complex objects, all are vital in the overall outcome and success of the film, such as the rocket launcher which has been shot in picture 4.

Editing, without the ‘Law Abiding Citizen’ is up to a very high standard, as they use editing tips like camera glare on explosion cuts and scenes(Pictures 4 &5) adds realism and makes you feel like you’re actually there. The use of black out effects and cross transitions plays a upmost important role on creating the tension and keeping it at a constant high buzz throughout the trailer. Also there is editing which is done with audio, this is the cross over between diagetic and non-diagetic sounds, So the way that it is played

over music it allows the audience to get both the explosions and dialogue alongside a simple melody. This works well with this film trailer because the trailer only has approximately 2minutes to get out all the best bits of a film so it draws the audience, so the use of orchestrated music being played over the clip adds a new sense into the trailer.

Green screen background, pre recorded explosion to get the effect that it is happening in the same room.

Dark mysterious convict back shown to add mystery to his feelings and emotions which links in with the first part of the trailer because of the people who kill his family show their backs as they walk off, which links to the irony of the subject.

Smoky filled room, which could easily been edited in as the smoke looks too unrealistic and adds a sense of extreme surrealism.
