LAVRENTYEVA EKATERINA NATURAL TRACK LUGE

Ekaterina Aleksandrovna Lavrentyeva was born 26 of June 1981 in Kandalaksha. She is a Russian natural track luger, who has competed since the late 1990s. She is the triple champion of Europe and the quadruple world champion, the most successful representative of Russia in natural track luge.

Her childhood friend invited her to go in for luging.By the age of 18 Ekaterina has been training hardin her native town of Kandalaksha, and shebecame the double world champion among juniors.She debuted in 2000 in the World Cup and

achievedvictory. In 2001 for the first time she won in theWorld Cup in natural track luge. She won in twoWorld Cup series, being placed second in one ofthem and coming third twice during the Cup.At the Moscow series which took place in February10-11, 2001 on Vorobyovy Gory, Ekaterina made abid for victory, beating the titled Italian athleteSonia Shtayneher. At the last series in the AustrianHüttau, Ekaterina got the victory after severalmistakes made by her competitor. Thus, Ekaterinabecame the youngest champion and winner of theWorld Cup in naturbahn. Since 2001, she is theundisputed leader of the Russian team.
