A message from our Principal…

Good afternoon everyone!

Another busy week here at Lavington Public School. With lots of opportunities for our students.

This week some students have been lucky enough to attend some sporting events. Students attended a cricket day with Mr Lyons yesterday, while today selected students are participating in the Mortimer Shield with Mr Calabria. These opportunities benefit students in extending their sportsmanship skills, whilst representing our wonderful school.

Today students from Years 3 and 4 were lucky enough to have the Pillowcase Project visit their classrooms. The Pillowcase Project is run by the Australian Red Cross and is designed to teach students to be prepared in an emergency.

Students were able to decorate their own pillowcase which showcases what they would need to pack in the event of an emergency.

We have many things coming up here at LPS. The Bollywood performance and the combined Book Fair/Grandparent’s Day/Harmony Day.

I am very excited for the coming weeks here at Lavington.

See you soon.

HOT SHOTS

Last Friday thirty very enthusiastic students crept into the Albury Grass Courts Tennis Centre to watch some skilled tennis players from around the world play, and to have a hit with Sam Groth. The students were involved in a Hot Shots skills session for an hour, and was it HOT! We were all very

red-faced by the end of it but we improved our skills and got to hit balls thrown to us by Sam Groth.

After that we sat in the shade and watched the men's singles and doubles matches. Many of us were perplexed as to why they made so much noise

when they hit the ball! We were all very thankful for the opportunity to be part of the Albury Pro Tennis Event.

SCHOOL NEWS

PBL FOCUS WEEK 7

Anti-Bullying

Stuart House Donation Drive 2019

Each year 1,700 public school children in need come to Stewart House from many parts of NSW and the ACT. During their stay, children are provided with optometric, dental

and medical treatment as well as emotional support.

This is balanced with health and educational programs and out of school activities to boost their self-esteem and to promote a healthier lifestyle.

Children in the care of Stewart House attend a specific purpose school onsite for 8 days of their 12-day stay. The NSW Department of Education provides infrastructure and staffing support for this school. All other costs associated with the childrens’ stay are met from charitable donations. Children between school years 2 and 8 are invited to attend the program.

STEWART HOUSE IS COMMITTED TO:

Providing a safe environment where every person has the right to be treated with respect and is safe and

protected from harm.

Creating and maintaining a safe learning environment and safeguarding the emotional, psychological and

physical wellbeing of children in its care.

Stewart House recognises that it has a moral and legal duty to protect children from foreseeable harm. This includes the provision of safeguards against mistreatment and timely reporting of child abuse.

Stewart House needs your support to ensure we can continue to provide important services to children.

ANTI-RACISM CONTACT OFFICER (ARCO)

Here at LPS we strive to achieve and foster an inclusive environment for all students. One aspect of this is the acceptance and inclusion of all cultural backgrounds and walks of life. It is important for students to understand what both inclusion and racism is, and understand that racism has no place at LPS. Mr Calabria is our ARCO at LPS and will be the initial contact person for any racial issues.

It has to be said, at LPS we currently do have an inclusive environment and the vast majority of students help facilitate this which should be commended. Responsibility belongs to us all to maintain this and continue talking to our children about both inclusion and racism and our responsibilities in helping all members of our community feel safe and welcomed.

Congratulations to our boys knockout cricket team who defeated Thurgoona PS yesterday. Our lads outplayed our opposition by posting 142 runs, then bowling Thurgoona out for 59. Our batting innings was set up by Cody Odgers 41 not out and Eric Tui 34 as they dominated the bowling. When it was our turn in the field Mitchell Clarke and Cody both took 2 wickets. Some great catches from our team made for a sensational day. We now progress through to the next round of the state wide competition against another undefeated team. All the best boys and congratulations on your win!

Albury Zone Basketball Teams

Ellie Lyons (Girls) and Cody Odgers (Boys) will be representing our school at the Riverina PSSA Basketball trials next week. Both were selected in their respective teams following strong performances at last weeks trial. We wish both Ellie and Cody well.

Hockey Roadshow

Our Year 1/2 classes enjoyed a visit from Hockey development officers during the week.

The boys and girls enjoyed learning the ins and out of this great sport. Hockey Albury Wodonga encourage any boys and girls who would like to take up the sport to register with a local club.

If you are interested please come and see Mr Lyons for more information.
