Welcome to the Lauriston Netball ClubLauriston Netball Club is an independent Netball

Club that is run in conjunction and supported by

Lauriston Girls’ School. The Club is a non-profit

organisation in which all money raised from

membership fees, fundraising and other initiatives

is reinvested back into the club.

This will allow us to provide past and present

Lauriston students with a range of opportunities

to participate and develop skills, knowledge and

a love for physical activity within an organised,

positive, supportive and fun environent

The girls will be challenged to achieve their

personal best.

AIMS • Provide a fun and supportive environment for girls to play netball.

• Facilitate the development of skills and encourage the girls to the realise their potential.

• Establish a structure that will provide mentoring systems and develop new teams amongst the Lauriston Girls’ School

community and Lauriston Alumnae.

• Develop and promote a sense of sportsmanship.

Please note that teams in the Under 9 and Under 11 sections, compete in a fixtured competition and do not play finals. For this

reason, we see these sections as a great development opportunity for our players. As such, coaches will be instructed to have

fair game time along with players being rotated through all thirds of the court. i.e. goals, midcourt and defence.

We aim to create a successful future for our club through a strong commitment to skill development for players, provision of a

junior development program and the provision of development opportunities for our coaches’, umpires and officials.

OPPORTUNITIESLauriston Netball Club wishes to establish a structure that

supports existing teams as well as developing new teams

amongst the Lauriston Girls’ School community. Lauriston

students in Grade 3 – 12 will participate at the Prahran Netball

Association.

The objectives of Lauriston Netball Teams composition are to:

• Ensure alignment with the Lauriston Netball Club

objectives

• Acknowledge that player development is optimised when playing with and against girls of a similar skill level and when aligning coaching to the skill level and maturity of the player.

• Maintain independence with our team selection processes and ensure an equal opportunity exists for all players

• Maintain a fun, supportive and inclusive environment for

all girls

• Provide an opportunity for girls who wish to play more

competitively

• Help foster and develop athletic ability

• Encourage and reward effort

CompetitionPRAHRAN NETBALL ASSOCIATION (PNA)The PNA Season 1 runs throughout Term 1 and 2 (Feb – June), and Season 2 runs in Term 3 and 4 (July – November).

2018 PNA NetsetGO – Introduction to Netball

Tier 1 : 5 -7 years old

Tier 2 : 8 – 10 years old

NetSetGO is Netball Australia’s only junior entry netball program. It has been developed to provide children from 5 to 10 years

with the best possible learning and playing experience to develop a positive introduction to netball, ensuring enjoyment and

continued participation. NetSetGO incorporates skill activities, minor games, music, dance and modified matches in a fun and

safe environment. The weekly program is coordinated by accredited coaches to ensure a quality experience for all participants.

Participants in this program will be strongly recommended to join the Lauriston Netball Club but will be required to self-

register into the NetSetGO program through the MyNetball online registration process. Visit the PNA website to check

enolment times - www.prahrannetball.com.au.

Lauriston Netball Club will be introducing a 10 week Introduction to Netball program for Grade 3’s & Grade 4’s on Friday

mornings before school in Term 3 & 4. More details to follow soon.

PNA Under 9 - Year 3 and 4

All Rookie teams participate in a fixtured competition with Netball Australia modified rules with no Finals and no Ladders.

Players must be aged 8 - 9 years old at 31 December of each year to be eligible to compete in this age group. Players must

have participated in a Net-Set-Go program or similar school program.

Participants in this program will be required to join the Lauriston Netball Club.

As these teams compete in a fixtured competition and do not play finals, we see these sections as a great development

opportunity for our players. As such coaches will be instructed to have fair game time along with players being rotated

through all thirds of the court. i.e. goals, midcourt and defence.

PNA Age Based Netball Competition - Under 11

All U11 teams will compete in a fixtured competition with Netball Australia rules but no Finals. Players must be aged 11 & under

as at 31 December of each year to be eligible to compete in this age group. Players must have completed a minimum of one

season in the Rookie Grade prior to playing in this age group. Participants in this program will be required to join the Lauriston

Netball Club.

As the these teams compete in a fixtured competition and do not play finals, we see these sections as a great development

opportunity for our players. As such coaches will be instructed to have fair game time along with players being rotated

through all thirds of the court. i.e. goals, midcourt and defence.

PNA Age Based Netball Competition - Under 13

All U13 Teams will compete in a fixtured competition with Netball Australia rules including Finals. Players must be aged 13

under as at 31 December of each year to be eligible to compete in each age group.

Participants in this program will be required to join the Lauriston Netball Club

PNA Age Based Netball Competition - Under 15, 17 and OpenAll Under 15, Under 17 and Open Teams will compete in a fixtured competition with Netball Australia rules including Finals.

Players must be aged 15 & under or 17 & under as at 31 December of each year to be eligible to compete in each age group.

Participants in this program will be required to join the Lauriston Netball Club.

NETBALL VICTORIA MEMBERSHIPA Netball Victoria membership enables members to participate (play, coach or umpire) in any Netball Victoria affiliated

association/competition or development course. You must be a current member of Netball Victoria and have purchased your

membership prior to participating.

Your Netball Victoria Membership covers a range of different programs and courses that benefit you and your club/association

along with National Risk Insurance Program. This insurance cover applies when members and other insured persons/entities

are involved in activities that are sanctioned* by Netball Australia and all State/Territory Associations. These activities include

organised club competitions, coaching clinics, official events, playing, training and trialling, fundraising activities and travel to

and from these activities.

Netball Victoria membership is valid from January 1 until December 31 in each calender year.

It is the responsibility of the players to provide their current NV Membership Number to Lauriston Netball Club.

TEAM SELECTION POLICYLauriston Netball Club will conduct a series of co-orindated round robin matches to gain an insight into our playing members

which will form the basis for team formation for the following season.

These selections will be conducted by a panel of selectors. Each selector on the panel selects teams independently based

on selection performance and will write notes on each player. After the trial process, the selectors will come together to

discuss and form teams whereby player feedback from coaches is taken into consideration. Not only are the players attributes

important, but team balance is also considered.

Re-grading of players may take place prior to Round 3 of the competition during the Association’s re-grading rounds.

TRAININGWhat to bring:

• With the change in weather, it is expected that all girls come to training wearing tracksuit pants, training top and a rugby

jumper/jacket. Once they have warmed up, girls can remove their track pants and jumper/jacket and train in shorts or

tights. Gloves are a good option for the early mornings.

• Girls will need to bring along a water bottle and some breakfast to have when finished training.

• If you require a EPIPEN or ventolin, please ensure that you have it with you at all times and notify your coach.

Morning sessions will commence at 7.00am. Girls are required to be there ready to start on time. Coaches will be there from

6.50am.

UNIFORMTrainingGirls are to be attired for training as follows:

• Lauriston Netball training top

• Lauriston sports shorts

• Lauriston sports top

• Lauriston track pants and rugby jumper

CompetitionsGirls must wear Lauriston Netball dresses whilst participating in competitions.

KEY ELEMENTS All persons bound by this code shall:

• Not act in a manner unbecoming or contrary to the interests of Lauriston Girls’ School;

• Treat people involved in the Netball program with courtesy, respect and proper regard to their rights;

• Treat another person’s property with respect and due consideration to its value;

• Not misuse Netball equipment.

STUDENTSStudents will:

• Abide by the School rules at all times;

• Not act in a manner unbecoming or contrary to the interests or good standing of the School or sport of Netball;

• Treat team members, other competitors, parents, coaches, umpires, officials and staff fairly and respectfully;

• Be helpful to coaches, communicate respectfully and accept their instructions and decisions;

• Treat all property with respect;

• Demonstrate a positive commitment to the Netball program and display ‘generous rivalry’ during games against

competing teams;

• Be punctual and correctly attired for training and competitions;

• Recognise, appreciate and applaud other competitors;

• Maintain the highest Netball standards, rigorously compete and demonstrate the highest standards of sporting spirit;

• Be mindful and respectful of the safety of others

PARENTSParents are requested to support and educate their

daughters by:

• Supporting the coaching staff, communicate with them

respectfully and accept their decisions;

• Being sensitive to pre-game preparations and post-game

de-briefings;

• Cheering for all Lauriston teams

• Helping to create and support an enjoyable environment

at all training sessions and games;

• Applauding winning teams and recognising the good

performances from other teams, clubs and schools;

• Encouraging your daughter to be punctual to training

and games;

• Talking positively to your daughter about achieving her

potential;

• Talking positively to other parents at competitions to

create a Lauriston Girls’ School spirit;

• Encouraging your daughter to show good

sportspersonship in every situation;

• Not engaging in forms of public commentary of a critical

nature, either in the hearing of others or on social media.

COACHESCoaches are requested to support and act as role models to

the netballers by:

• Being punctual, correctly attired for training and

competition and following competition guide

• Not acting in a manner unbecoming or contrary to the

interests or good standing of the School or sport of

Netball;

• Demonstrating control, respect and professionalism to

all involved in netball and encouraging competitors to

do the same;

• Being helpful to fellow coaches, communicating

respectfully and working together for the benefit of the

Netball program and the team;

• Ensuring that physical contact with girls is appropriate

to the situation and used only when necessary for the

individual’s skill development;

• Never ridiculing competitors or fellow coaches for

mistakes or their performance;

• Never using bad language or negative language when

communicating with students or fellow coaches;

• Treating all property with respect;

• Demonstrating a positive commitment to the netball

program and displaying ‘generous rivalry’ during

competition against competing teams, clubs or schools;

• Recognising, appreciating and applauding other

competitors;

• Being mindful and respectful of the safety of others.

Under 13 and 15 - There are two awards per season; Best and Fairest and Coaches Award
