Afternoon Lunch is at your own expense today.

After lunch, students will begin their performing arts activities with a Broadway Close-Up Q & A workshop

BROADWAY CLASSROOM – BROADWAY CLOSE-UP (Q&A) Broadway Classroom offers a series of interactive workshops designed to further enhance your groups' Broadway experience. They are a great way to engage students in a variety of theatre disciplines and were developed in accordance with the National Standards for Arts Education. This talk-back session gives students the unique opportunity to talk one-on-one with two Broadway professionals (actor, and either a singer or musician – at your request) about their journey to Broadway. Your group will have the chance to ask questions, hear backstage stories and learn some of the tricks of the trade Take a guided tour of the Rockefeller Centre with your Tour Director. ROCKEFELLER CENTRE When the stock market crashed in 1929, John D. Rockefeller Jr held a $91 million, 24-year lease on a piece of midtown Manhattan property properly known as "the speakeasy belt." Plans to gentrify the neighbourhood by building a new Metropolitan Opera House on the site were dashed by the failing economy and the business outlook was dim. Nevertheless, Rockefeller made a bold decision that would leave a lasting impact on the city's architectural and cultural landscape. He decided to build an entire complex of buildings on the property so superior that they would attract commercial tenants, even in a depressed city flooded with vacant rental space. The project would express the highest ideals of architecture and design and stand as a symbol of optimism and hope. The Rockefeller Centre and Radio City Music Hall are two of the original buildings

Evening Dinner is included tonight

After dinner, students will see the sights of New York from the Top of the Rock, Rockefeller Centre

TOP OF THE ROCK At the Top of the Rock you will see the most magnificent view from the top of the Rockefeller Centre. This view is even better than going to the top of the Empire State Building as you can actually see the Empire State in all its glory from this vantage point. The Chrysler Building is another feature, as is the Statue of Liberty and so much more. It is really the best view in Manhattan. Return to your accommodation Overnight New York

After dinner, enjoy tickets to a Broadway show. BROADWAY SHOW The program for December 2019 has not yet been released. Latitude Group Travel will advise you of what performances are available as soon as the program is released. Take some time to explore Broadway and Times Square while you are in the area.

BROADWAY The Broadway refers to the theatrical performances presented in the 41 professional theatres with 500 or more seats, located in the Theatre District and Lincoln Centre along the Broadway, Midtown Manhattan. Along with London's West End theatres, Broadway theatres are widely considered to represent the highest level of commercial theatre in the English-speaking world. The great majority of Broadway shows are musicals. Historians argue that Broadway musicals became enormously influential forms of the American culture and helped make New York City the cultural capital of the nation. TIMES SQUARE The Times Square is a major commercial intersection, tourist destination, entertainment centre and neighbourhood in the Midtown Manhattan section at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue. It is the most bustling square of New York, known for its many Broadway theatres, cinemas and electronic billboards. It is one of those places that makes New York a city that never sleeps. Formerly known as Longacre Square, Times Square was renamed in 1904 after The New York Times moved its headquarters to the newly erected Times Building. DAY 4 NEW YORK Saturday, 07 December 2019 (B, D)

Morning Breakfast at your accommodation

This morning, students will take a trip on a boat towards Liberty Island for an opportunity to photograph the Statue of Liberty. The boat continues on to Ellis Island, but you will stay on the boat for the whole round trip. STATUE OF LIBERTY The Statue is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbour. The copper statue, a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. The statue was dedicated on 28 October 1886. The figure is a robed woman representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of liberty. She holds a torch above her head with her right hand, and in her

left hand carries a tabula ansata inscribed in Roman numerals with "JULY IV MDCCLXXVI" (4 July 1776), the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. A broken chain lies at her feet. The statue became an icon of freedom and of the United States and was a welcoming sight to immigrants arriving from abroad. After your return, take some time to stroll through Battery Park. BATTERY PARK CITY Set along the Hudson River, Battery Park City is a mainly residential neighbourhood of upscale high-rise apartment buildings. During the working week, its casual eateries and bars draw professionals from the nearby Financial District. On weekends, the area slows down, though locals and visitors are drawn to the multi-tower Brookfield Place shopping centre and the bike friendly paths of the riverfront park. Most people quickly pass through on their way to the Statue of Liberty departure point, but the Battery itself is worth some of your time. Find some great vistas of the harbour and the Statue of Liberty. There are many monuments honouring soldiers, explorers, inventors and immigrants, such as the Sea Glass Carousel or The Immigrants sculpture.

Later this morning, your tour director will take the group to the area of the World Trade Centre, where you will visit the September 11 Memorial Site, the Firefighters’ Memorial commemorating the 343 firefighters who died that day and St Paul’s Church, one of the oldest buildings in NYC which was the epicentre of the rescue and recovery efforts.

NATIONAL SEPTEMBER 11 MEMORIAL The National September 11 Memorial is a tribute of remembrance and honour to the lives lost in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Centre site and at the Pentagon. The Memorial’s twin reflecting pools are each nearly an acre in size and feature the largest manmade waterfalls in North America. The pools sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood. The names of every person who died in the attacks are inscribed into bronze panels edging the Memorial pools. The pools serve as a powerful reminder of the largest loss of life resulting from a foreign attack on American soil and the greatest single loss of rescue personnel in American history. FIREFIGHTER MEMORIAL On September 11, 2001, five members from the Ten Fire House made the supreme sacrifice. As the towers collapsed, tonnes of building debris fell onto the firehouse and forced its way inside, blowing out windows and doors and causing extensive damage to the facade, interior structures, utilities, lighting and the roof. Inside the firehouse, the apparatus floor was flooded with over three feet of debris and in some area, in and around the firehouse, the debris from the collapse was nearly six feet deep. The building’s ventilation system, air conditioning units and exhaust system were completely destroyed. Although it was unable to be used as a firehouse after the collapse of the towers, the quarters of Engine 10 and Ladder 10 nevertheless played a

vital role in the daily operations at Ground Zero. During the early days of the rescue and recovery operations and even during the clean-up of the site, the Ten House was used as a rest and recuperation station as well as a command post for fire department operations at the site.

ST. PAUL’S CHAPEL St. Paul’s Chapel, located at Broadway and Fulton Street, is part of the Parish of Trinity Church, Wall Street. Celebrating 250 years of continuous service in 2016, it is home to an active worshipping community, hosts a wide variety of neighbourhood and arts events and welcomes more than one million visitors every year. Until the second Trinity Church was rebuilt in 1790 many, including George Washington, made St. Paul’s their church home. On 30th April 1789, after Washington took the oath of office to become the first President of the United States, he made his way from Federal Hall on Wall Street to St. Paul’s Chapel, where he attended services. After 11th September 2001, St. Paul’s became the site of an extraordinary, round-the-clock relief ministry to rescue and recovery workers for nine months. Though the World Trade Centre buildings collapsed just across the street, there was no damage to St. Paul’s, earning it the nickname “the little chapel that stood.”

Afternoon Lunch is at your own expense This afternoon, students will head to Broadway Classroom to participate in the Making Music workshop.

MAKING MUSIC Participants will learn techniques of vocal dynamics and acting through song while working with a musical director on a piece of Broadway music specific to the show that the students have seen the night before. Explore the art of marrying music and drama to effectively achieve great emotional impact. Then the group has the opportunity to perform the piece they just learned with a Broadway guest performer, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Evening Dinner is included tonight

DAY 5 NEW YORK Sunday, 08 December 2019 (B, D)

Morning Breakfast at your accommodation This morning, participate in the Stage Makeup workshop with Broadway Classroom. While the bare-bones basic components of theatre are nothing more than actors and a script, most theatre productions are incomplete without the addition of costumes and makeup. Costumes and makeup play an important role in the drama, character creation, visual aesthetic and even practical elements in a production. Students will learn how makeup is used to assist in creating the appearance of the characters that actors portray during a theatre production.

STAGE MAKEUP The world of theatre and film is constantly changing with new technology. Makeup is also changing. With high definition and new inventive lighting in the theatre, the actor’s face has become more specific. The roar of the greasepaint is much more defined. A professional from the theatre or film will demonstrate, on one or more students, new ways to apply makeup. Past instructors have been on the staff of Saturday Night Live!

Afternoon Lunch is at your own expense

In the afternoon, students will split into their areas of study and participate in the following activities: DRAMA ACTING FOR FILM AT NEW YORK FILM ACADEMY Using ads as the format for learning acting techniques for film, students will be taught a wide range of techniques to learn to perform at their best in front of a camera. The school uses advertisements rather than film monologues in order to give the students the most challenges and the widest range of techniques possible. This workshop is identical to that which is taught to professional actors. The professor made the comment that even they find this workshop extremely challenging and the one in which they learn the most.

DAY 6 NEW YORK Monday, 09 December 2019 (B, D)

Morning Breakfast at your accommodation This morning, all students will take part in the Art of the Quick Change workshop.

ART OF THE QUICK CHANGE WORKSHOP Your group will have the chance to learn how Broadway professionals have only seconds to change costumes for a quick scene change. Everyone will have the opportunity to see this quick change happen and then volunteers will be able to take part in this session. Participants will learn how it takes many people on and off stage to keep a Broadway show moving. From lights, sound, music, costumes and set changing, a scene can go from a whole different setting in 30 seconds. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about careers, costumes, set pieces, etc. After the workshop meet your tour director and head to Grand Central Station. Lunch can be purchased here. GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL This magnificent terminal was built over a century ago. Over half a million people transit through its marble corridors daily. This marvel of engineering and urban planning is an enduring symbol of New York. Construction of the terminal lasted ten years. Excavation was an enormous undertaking as the grade of the rail yard was lowered to an average depth of 9 metres below street level. Yet, in spite of the upheaval, rail service continued uninterrupted. Initially, trains continued to use the old Grand Central, which was eventually razed in 1910. See the hustle and bustle of New York, where literally tens of thousands of people transit through its corridors at any given time

Afternoon Lunch is at your own expense In the afternoon, students visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) to participate in a guided tour. METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART (THE MET) GUIDED TOUR Established in 1870 to bring fine arts to New York City, The Met has since grown to become one of the largest and finest museums of art in the world. It includes works from all around the world, from every era, from Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, to Europe’s Old Masters, to Asian art, Oceanic, African, Islamic, American, to modern and contemporary art. It displays paintings and drawings, sculpture and reliefs, glassware and metalwork, arms and armour, textiles, musical instruments, photographs and installations, among other things. New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art attracts nearly as many visitors as other leading galleries like the Louvre or the British Museum. On this tour you’ll be able to skip the line & explore its most famous pieces with the help of an engaging guide.

Evening An early dinner is included tonight After dinner, enjoy a performance at the Metropolitan Opera

METROPOLITAN OPERA PERFORMANCE The Metropolitan Opera, also named The Met, was founded in 1880 as an alternative to the previously established Academy of Music opera house and debuted in 1883 in a new building on 39th and Broadway (now known as the "Old Met"). The Metropolitan Opera is the largest classical music organisation in North America. It presents about 27 different operas each year, in a season which lasts from late September through May. The opera moved to the new Lincoln Centre in 1966. The operas in the Met's repertoire consist of a wide range of works, from 18th-century Baroque and 19th-century Bel canto to the minimalism of the late 20th century. These operas are presented in staged productions that range in style from those with elaborate traditional decors to others that feature modern conceptual designs. The Met's performing company consists of a large symphony-sized orchestra, a chorus, children's choir and many supporting and leading solo singers. The company also employs numerous freelance dancers, actors, musicians and other performers throughout the season. The Met's roster of singers includes both international and American artists. While many singers appear periodically as guests with the company, others, such as Renée Fleming and Plácido Domingo, have long maintained a close association with the Met, appearing many times each season. The program for December 2019 has not yet been released. Latitude Group Travel will advise you of performances as soon as the program is available. If the program does not suit Lauriston Girls School, Latitude Group Travel will arrange for you to see another performance at a different theatre. Overnight New York

DAY 7 NEW YORK Tuesday, 10 December 2019 (B, D)

Morning Breakfast at your accommodation DRAMA – Please choose one of the following workshops ENTER ACTING This workshop in building trust in your own talent, finding the truth of the moment and developing the whole actor utilizes an actor's greatest gift, the imagination. Various exercises are carefully crafted to meet the needs of the acting student.
