THE quintet
In 2011, the Belgian jazz pianist Joachim Caffonnette formed a band with musicians he met in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels: Laurent Barbier, Florent Jeunieaux, Yann Dumont, Hugo Antunes. The band played a number of shows and qualified for the finals of the Dinant Jazz Night Young Talent Contest. In 2012, they became “resident artists” in the famous Sounds Jazz Club in Brussels. During the 2012-2013 season, they played there once a month.
After that first season, Joachim decided to change the rhythm section and engaged two well-experienced Italian musicians: Armando Luongo (drums) and Daniele Cappucci (double bass). The owner of the Sounds Jazz Club offered them to play another season at the rate of two concerts every month. That same year (2013) they were selected for the artist support program “Ca Balance” of the Belgian province of Liège. That gave them the opportunity to record an EP.The EP was presented during a series of 11 concerts in Spring 2014, including Belgian festivals Jazz à Liège, Open Jazz Festival, Gare au Jazz… This release received a warm welcome from the audience and the press. In February 2015, the band was chosen as one of the 3 finalists of the STORM contest (among 40 candidates) in the Belgian seaside town Ostend. In March and April 2015, the band gave a series of concert in several jazz clubs before entering the studio to record their first album, released on AZ production (Talia asbl). The prestigious concert hall Flagey in Brussels has invited the band to present the album on September 8th, 2015.

Quotes:
«There is absolutely nothing to throw away in the very well accomplished compositions of the young pianist» (P. Bivort, Classic 21 RTBF)
«The music is written, well thought, probably complex but flowing. We listen to it with interest first, then with passion » (JC Vantroyen, Le Soir)
« Lisa (excerpt from the album) is one the most beautyful ballad to have been written in recent years.» (G Tonla-Briquet, Jazz Mozaiek)
« This is a very convincing quintet, which confidently suceed in mixing modernity and swing. To be listen and seen without reservations ».(Jazzques)
« As for the global sounds of the quintet, sometimes muffled, sometimes more intense, but always warm, it joins the great tradition of bands like Herbie Hancock’s V.S.O.P. » (P. Schoonbrood, Jazz Around)
«A jazz band with the energy of a rock band ! » (JazzMozaiek)
«Joachim Caffonnette Quintet, remember the name ! » (G.Tonla Briquet)
«’Simplexity ’, is the result Caffonnette’s musical peregrinations, wich have been cunningly thought and shaped » (P.Bivort)
