Students selected fabrics of their choice and made pillowcases for themselves. Students got to learn about threading sewing machines, sewing straight seams, and got to use the serger to finish the seams on their projects. All of the projects were unique. Tuesday the students visited the county museum and got to see the Cradle to Grave clothing exhibit. ey participated in a scavenger hunt looking at the historic clothing display. Dorothy Lamberti and Connie Dallenbach were our guides through the display. Students learned about soutache braid, peplums, clothing care, buttons, and bloomers. Another part of the search was finding items made from natural fibers. We also did some exploration of natural versus manmade fibers.

Laurens-Marathon Students Sew and Learn About Textiles and ClothingThe Laurens -Marathon Family and Consumer Science 8th Grade Exploratory had the opportunity to sew their own pillowcases this week and learn about the history of clothing. Students selected fabrics of their choice and made pillowcases for themselves. 20th Annual Laurens Festival of Trees20th Annual Laurens Festival of Trees to be held at the United Methodist Church December 21-22, 28-29. Hours Open: NOON – 7:00 p.m. Over 75 displays of all kinds including decorated trees and wreaths. Free will donation. Displays will include themes of Iowa State/University of Iowa, Gingerbread, Dr. Seuss, Yummy Chocolate, snowmen and many other surprises. Even the restrooms are decorated for Christmas!

Deb & Jeff Hansen Foundation Operation Free Christmas MealPocahontas County 4-H and Pilot Creek FFA will prepare and serve a pork loin meal for EVERYONE! This meal is free of charge due to the generous sponsors, Pocahontas Catholic School, Pocahontas Area Community School, Pocahontas County Farm Bureau, United Bank of Iowa, Pomeroy Community Center, Rolfe Betterment Inc., Laurens First Christian Church, Farm Credit, Dutchland Dairy, and Deb & Jeff Hansen Foundation. December 2nd, 2019 The Laurens City Council met in regular session at the Municipal Building at 5:00 p.m. on

Monday, December 2nd, 2019. Mayor Rod Johnson called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Present were Council members, Jean Swanson, Aaron Christenson, Rich Newgard, John Jamison, Julie Potter, City Manager Hilary Reed, City Clerk Joan Hoben, Chief of Police Tom Shaw, Public Works Director Julian Johnsen, and City Attorney Ann Beneke.
